Linux has the super low end and the super high end well covered, but it has a few serious areas that are lacking.

From personal experience I can concur that for most NLE needs Sony Vegas (and Premiere for those whose brains work that way) provide the proper ease of use and feature set.
Sony Vegas is easy to self teach. The interface is clean, simple and intuitive. Much more intuitive than Premiere. Sony Vegas should be the target for Linux Video Editing developers. Vegas is up to version 13 right now. EVEN IF developers targeted version 9 or even 6 of Vegas... that would be fantastic and many people would be filled with joy and singing.
cinelerra is a very capable open source video editing system for linux.
I use it on an I7 system with a gig of memory, and it handles everything I have done with it very well.

While it's set in the Battlestar Galactica universe instead of Star Trek, it is a mostly planet-bound drama set in an age of interstellar travel, examining the implications of technology on the populace. Themes include religion, ethnic gangs, terrorism, and corporate greed. It was well reviewed but tanked in the ratings.

What kind of ideologies, or even religious beliefs and faiths, are there, if any (even if underground)?

Rather, some other interesting story that takes place in that universe with it's set of rules - replicators, holodecks, no monetary system, intellectual pursuits, what have you.
What is illegal in that universe? What would a criminal do? Are there bad guys? What would a "good guy" do to deal with a "bad guy?" What kind of DRAMA is there? What do people DO who aren't in Starfleet? Hmmm? What's that LIKE?
Certainly Roddenberry's universe isn't so mind numbingly BORING that there couldn't be a non StarFleet story to see the other side of the society. Right? Please?
I think the closest I have ever seen was Ben Sisko's dad on Earth where he had his restaurant and the Founders were invading by impersonating Starfleet officials and there was martial law or something. There are other nuggets here and there on DS9, Jake Sisko being a writer, Quark's Bar, etc. The interaction between Odo and Quark were always fun but that is still just an inch away from Starfleet and it wasn't Earth. What do Humans on Earth do in the ST universe?

The captive portal was BROKEN, it gave the user the chance to bill the charge to the room and create a login for their "stay." The logins never worked and every few minutes it would forget the mac address and I'd have to recommit to charge my room. It's one thing to charge people for access, but to have a broken mechanism for charging is just insult to injury. Access for ME was supposedly free because I was an "exhibitor" but still, it was ridiculous.
I've strapped a 3D printer on my back, if someone shoots at me I just say "3D printer! Body armor!" and it 3D prints a shell of graphene all around my body!

An MS cert does not trump someone with 2 years of real experience. MS certs are only for people that have zero experience hoping to work somewhere other than best buy.
I once had to help a MCSE guy configure an email account. In outlook. They have no value if there is no experience backing up the ability to pass a test. I've been working with computers for over 30 years, and I'm 40. No official certified training, just a lifetime of being a geek. They still call me for the hard problems and never complain about the bill when it comes.
My understanding is there are "boot camp" test prep courses that are worthless then there are (apparently) some real cert programs.

on a lot of the mouses the click wheel makes for a crappy third button.
Some of the worst are when they thought they'd be clever and made the click wheel TILTABLE and CLICKABLE.
Ends up doing neither well.
What I've found is that the cheap mouses the click wheel works ok. The MS and Logitech ones, of course.
Got me the middle button gets used most for opening a link in a new tab, and also has it's uses in CAD apps.

The files are sometimes corrupt - refusing to load in anything other than VLC
Do people still use players other than VLC? Weird.
