There are always better solutions than violence, especially violence to the scale of nuclear weapons. I am sure as hell not moving to Nevada...I hear nuclear radiation is bad for you. I would not be proud of having a nucleur test site in my state and I am not proud of having nucluar test sites in my country. The US is going to seriously regret messing with nuclear weapons oneday. This story about nuclear testing and cancer says: 'Fallout from US tests in Nevada spread substantial amounts of radioactivity across many states, particularly Nevada, Utah, Idaho, Colorado, Kansas, Nebraska, Iowa and Missouri.'

I use Zone Edit to deal with DHCP with DSL. Not a good solution for the poster of the article because the bandwidth is certainly limited (especially up-speed) but it is a great free service for small web sites. Although, I am sure DSL providers would frown on a customer serving porn.

Physical security is just as important as network security. If the admin of these servers and computers had safegaurded their physical security there wouldn't have been a problem. Hackers are just one threat...vandals must also be considered. That is why physical security is one of the 10 sections covered in the CISSP certification exam (the premeire information security certification).

If they you were never told that wearing a rubber and avoiding promiscuous sex can save your life you would probably have AIDS now also. There simply is not enough effort and money put towards AIDS education, especially in third world countries. In Tanzania over half the population has AIDS and it is not because the people of Tanzania are stupid. It is because they do not have access to the information that could save their lives and now because of greedy corporations and inane IP laws they don't have the pharmaceutical that could improve their lives.

I don't think there can ever be too big of an emphasis on network security and virus protection. The internet is more fragile than most people realize and networks go down all the time from virus attacks.

  12. file sharing culture on The Culture of CD Burning · · Score: 1

I think what the article is reffering to is more than just a cd burning culture. It is the overall file sharing culture. This generation has expanded sharing way beyond making copies of cassette tapes or VHS. Although initially limited to techies it is expanding and it is definately a cultural movement. I don't think the open source community would be enjoying the success it has without the overall vibe of this cultural movement to back it up.

I wonder if George Lucas sincere about episode II being better than the first one. This could just be hype. It is nice to see him admit that the first one wasn't good. Whatever the case I will in line to see it when it comes out with the rest of the clones...err, I mean movie-goers.
