With Squirrelmail, you can have a popup window appear when you get new mail. I do this at times.
I've also taken it a step further, but haven't rolled the changes back into the codebase: the popup opens, stays there for x seconds, and then closes itself. Hooray for Squirrelmail being easy to patch.:)
1 out of 4. I know for a fact that ColdFusion does not run on OS X, since I work for a CF shop that we've been trying to get it working for a while. End result from Macromedia: We're getting to it.
People have done it with software. It's just patented, so everyone who's done it has been forced to remove it from their product.
For an example, see uControl, a Mac keyboard control panel app, which did just that. "Did" is the operative word here.

Sweet, 7th Guest sig. Not a week goes by where I don't get an excuse to use "I'm going to have to start again".
I just re-finished 11th Hour a month ago. Good lord that pente game is hard the second time around, when you don't get to start.
But nothing compared to the microscope puzzle. The bastard that programmed that game deserves an award for best computer opponent I've ever seen.
