My last name is spelled "Barrett". People spell it wrong all the time, it's not a big deal.
Thanks for the help getting the word out, Slashdot. I've got hundreds of emails and blog comments, and the more data I have, the better. I really do think I'll be able to gather a lot of useful and interesting data from all these suggestions.
I remember doing this in high school, and it was a HUGE help. I can't recommend this enough. I did notice many students doing the trial and error approach, especially with the automated tests. They would just hammer away until they passed them all. They were all thrown for a loop when we had to write our own tests.
For the OP, my advice is require them to not use an IDE at least once. Requiring them to submit the output of java(1) and other such tools will help.
Is that all we macs users are now George? Just people you can mess around with? Only good enough for a one-game stand? It's cruel to mess with our minds like that! I thought LA was back! Making awesome games for my wonderful Mac again! What happened, guys?! Gosh darn, where are my pills...
After a little bit of reading, and the helpful replies of/.ers, I've figured out my error. I wasn't BSD biased, or angry or whatever. I was just mistaken, probably due to XDarwin (I lauched GNOME from twm).
Anyway, I love Open Source stuff, and I think that/. IS overpopulated with dumbasses, just like the rest of the net. Oh, how I long for the days when only people with brains could get on the net.
there was an arcticle about this. It said that the main problem was electron leakage between the circuits. I wonder if IBM is just saying they're thinking about it or if they've solved it. I hope they post more info =D
That people breathing would pay for the clean air act? I'm not really interested in clean air, as long as the earth doesn't blow up while i'm alive, its all good. *the humour light blinks*
Seriously now, there's one problem with this whole idea: Double Taxing. Yo pay a sales tax, but ALSO the Star Wars Tax. Isn't that like taxing twice? Seems like our founding fathers would be mighty angry...
TWMis old. Nobody really uses it. Sure, GNOME and all the other WMs sit on top of it, but it seems to just slow X down for me (I'm running it under XDarwin on my G3). Why not just make it a bunch of Libs instead? Or am I misrepresenting this? Just my 2
I'd like to see what others think about this, instead of a measly 2 replys.
This poses major questions though, about what exactly is a planet. Is Jupieter a planet? It puts out more heat than it takes in. What about Pluto? It's not in a regular orbit. What about that whole "Nemesis" theory? What's that got to do with this?
Where would he go for Tech Support so he could stay on the line for 2 hours? He's gotta get THAT up and running before I'll buy. Oh, and don't forget broken merchandice in cheezy packaging. Gotta have that cheezy packaging. Mmmm cheezy....
Astronomers hope that the next generation of telescopes will be able to directly see other planets. There's an easy way to distinguish between aritficial and natural debris and satilites: the composition. You're most likely not going to find gold on an asteroid, but gold is used in satilites because it absorbs something like 98% of the radiation that hits it, and it's a good conductor as well (cf. gold plated astronaught helmets).
To indirectly see these particles, you could look for flashes of light when they reflect the sun's rays, or you could look for a "darkening" of the light reflected by the planet in certain orbits (eg. geocentric, polar, and at Ell 1, 2, &c).
There ARE ways to look at this, it's only a question of thinking in the right way to do so.
There is some real danger here. Micrometorites and space debries hurdling at thousands of feet per second can punch a hole through an astronaught, the space shuttle, and a communications satilite without breaking a sweat. We need to protect our astronaughts and our communications network from further damage by cleaning up the Earth's orbit!
On a side note...could we look at other planets for similar halos of space cr** to detect an intelligent race? Maybe.....
My zone usually gets interrupted by the end of class. And I can't seem to program at home on my Mac (which I will not trade for anything, except maybe a better mac ^.~). I am too used to Borland C++ Builder 3 (not to be confused with Borland Turbo).
This "zone" phenomena is a clearly documented scientific phenomena, most often used in sports and in music.

It can also be described as an alpha wave state. Our brain normally operates at Beta () waves. Delta ()is sleeping, and gamma () is that really weird stage between sleeping and waking, where you can kinda see what's going on in the real world, but you're not really awake. But that's another topic entirely. The Alpha () wave is when your brain isn't exactly thinking, but running on automatic. (A programming example would be like if the kernel some how took over a process and started controlling it, or something. This example thing isn't working out so well...). Studies on champion archers and on martial artists show that just before they perform their action (shooting an arrow or breaking a cinder block in two), their brain waves go from the complex to the simple waves. It's like your subconcious taking over, or so I understand it.
For more information, try looking up alpha waves or subconcious on google.

Why must we exploit our Comrades so...
