Maybe the Cylons heard from reliable sources that the colonists were trying to obtain "yellow cake" from Nigeria.

Actually someone could wreak major havok inside of a Starbucks here in NYC. A cursory glance inside of any coffee joint shows at least one or two Titanium notebooks on the wireless LAN.

I tend not to use my laptop in public spaces so I'm not affected by this.

I have two of them but one was cannibalized for parts after I broke it. I loved that mouse and there was also a version shipped by Dell for a few years as their 3-button mouse. I finally gave it up for the Dual-Optical one this year and I have to admit the responsiveness is nice. I did, though, love the Wingman...my hand felt good on it and the middle-button toggling for cut-n-paste was a breeze.

  5. Re:Spoilers on Matrix Revolutions Trailer Released · · Score: 1

    My explanation:

The rendering of the CGI-based(?) Agent Smiths was too much for the computer systems used for the scene and the characters appeared rubbery/fake.

LOTR pulled it off with many more characters but admittedly from further away (less detail). Instead of attempting to orchestrate each "Agent Smith" they should have programmed the system to fight and just let it go.

  6. Re:Does ANYONE like it? on Star Wars Galaxies: An Empire Divided Ships · · Score: 1

I myself am taking the praises with a grain of salt. When The Phantom Menace came out there was plenty of praise with insertions of "while not the best movie of the series..." or "Jar-Jar is annoying but...". Hell, even Taco had mostly positive things to say about TPM and only after Clones came out did he admit the first was lame. Lucas at the time said the negative publicity was due to a minority of people on the internet making the loudest noise (sqeaky-wheels).

Well, I saw TPM in the theaters and I felt ripped off. "It's a developing plot!", the Star Wars zealots claimed. "...just wait until the prequel trilogy is complete".

Well, I then saw Episode II and it was mediocre at best. So do I jump in SWG in the hopes that what is promised will be delivered?

    I think not.

I am tired of putting money into George Lucas' pockets. I'll require a hefty majority of people I know telling me this is entertaining after 2-3 months pass to further enrich this milked franchise. I'll wait, thank you, rather than forking $80 dollars over the course of 3 months to find it's not as advertised.

Hell, at present they have already launched without things they said would be in so why believe the distributers that they'll deliver what they say they will? Transports going in shortly? I'll buy that if they back the statement with a guarantee (free month if we do not deliver).

Actually I hope I'm wrong and it gets polished and is a fabulous game; I like MMORPGs. My current stance is that I'll wait and see if I'm wrong.

Please provide evidence of spyware or DRM in eMusic services. Running lsof in conjunction with the Linux download manager shows nothing out of the ordinary when retrieving MP3s from eMusic's web site. By out of the ordinary I mean there are no attempts at accessing parts of the filesystem outside of the tmp designated download directories. Also, please supply links to evidence of astro-turfing (sure you're not talking about Apple here?).

The .emp file you're referring to is a stub file (was XML format) that launches eMusic's proprietary downloader (Win, Mac, & Linux). They only allow downloading of tracks/albums via the downloader to prevent folks from scripting the retrieval of the catalog. The files download as VBR MP3s encoded with LAME 3.92.

I'm a small company and even though we only manage about 12 desktops we went with Dell. Over the past two years we've had one motherboard burn out and another had a bad video chip. Both were covered unde r warranty and it was easy to get it sent out and repaired. Also, it's easy for us to keep our insurance info together when all the hardware is purchased from one vendor. These are perks for pre-built systems and I think it's worth the extra money for the peace of mind.
