Matrix Revolutions Trailer Released
aerojad writes "The new Matrix Revolutions trailer is now available for download (direct link) on the official site. If you have plugin/bandwidth issues, there are also BitTorrent links available. For those wondering, there is more to it than you saw at the end of Reloaded." In related news, an anonymous reader points to the BBC News report that: "The makers of the Matrix films are considering only promoting the third film, Matrix Revolutions, for next year's Oscars. Warners, which produced the films, had considered pushing for both of them to be nominated as a single entry because they were shot on the same 240-day shoot, but the academy refused."
Man, Agent Smith looks absolutely crazy in this trailer. I still think he looks better with long hair. In case the BBC site is slow, here's a mirror to the 3rd link. I'm keeping my BitTorrent window open for as long as possible. It only took me two minutes to download, but that's because I beat the rush because I'm a Slashdot Subscriber. ;-) Please keep your BitTorrent windows open for as long as possible.

Am I the only one who absolutely refuses to watch these trailers? I mistakenly saw the trailer for Reloaded, and the whole Burly Brawl was completely spoiled when they showed a cloud of Agent Smiths getting tossed off in a "mushroom cloud." If you hadn't seen that, you'd really be worried when the Smiths completely enveloped Neo, because you wouldn't know how he was going to get out of it. But the preview spoiled it, and so that fight (possibly the best in the movie) was entirely spoiled for me because I knew the outcome - if hundreds of Agent Smiths couldn't even hold Neo down, how could he possibly lose?!
I hate how movie companies are putting more and more give-aways in their trailers just to get more people to come see it. It speaks volumes about how they only care about the bottom line, and how little they care about the integrity of the movie as art. I've heard from my friends about American Wedding (which I didn't want to see) - it was a waste of money because they already saw all the best parts on the ads!
And that is why I refuse to watch Revolutions trailers. As the movie's release date draws nearly it's going to get harder for me, as I'll have to turn away from the TV and cover my ears whenever the ads come up. But it'll be worth it, because I absolutely hate spoilers.

I saw Reloaded in the Lowes Imax here in NYC and it was incredible! If you have one near you I suggest you go and see it there. A few tips for getting tix and seats:
-Order tickets on line or at the box office 1 or 2 days before showing to ensure you get them.
-Get to the theater at least 1 hour before the movie starts to enshure you gett he good seats.
-Best seats are the upper middle. I try to find the seats where the screen is visible clearly but not to far up that I have to move my head to see whats going on. The right distance and you will really feel like you are in the movie.
Hope this helps...

It's kinda sobbering watching that bit torrent link go through the roof. 30 peers at 600km/s when I connected 60 at 1.5mb/s a minute later and still climbing at the same rate.
Now anyone know how I can watch this without needing to kill my uptime?
I'm sitting on an OC-48 and Gig-E and i'm only getting 100K in spuradic bursts of packets.. I'm also loosing the connection before the file is finished... I have yet to get even half the file of the mid sized trailer. :(
This was actually discussed at TLFC. This trailer reveals very little. It's a lot of quick-cutting that gives very little away, as opposed to the really long Matrix Reloaded trailer that let you pretty much play connect the dots between scenes as you watched the final film. People complained that the Reloaded trailer contained almost all of the "money shots."
In this one, all you can definitely tell is that there's a final rainy battle with Smith. Otherwise, it's explosions, giant flying machines, and quickly edited shots of some sort of gun battle (finally, gun battles, the thing missing from Reloaded).
"Sufferin' succotash."
why can I not save the file but I can play it?
Neo: I know how to disable the matrix.
Morpheus: How Neo?
Neo: Post an article about the trailers on slashdot, and slashdot it!
(Neo posts to slashdot...)
Morpheus: It's working, the matrix is breaking down!
(Now, could someone actually tell me what is in the trailer? I am on cable and I can't get it.)
Try to hack my 31337 firewall!
maybe i was just early and lucky, but i am getting about 400k/s from the official website, and only about 30k/s down from bittorrent. maybe they set up some massive pipeline, knowing that it would be tested as soon as they posted the trailer
Look whose kitchen he's laughing in.
"Sufferin' succotash."
Crap. You know you've been reading too much Slashdot when...
... you look at the latest Matrix trailer, see Agent Smith maniacally laughing and fighting Neo, and find yourself thinking "hey, he's just like those SCO pointy-haired-bosses, isn't he?"
Did he actually say "Whoa" in the second film? I don't recall that.

I'm trying to imagine how miserable shooting that scene in the rain was, especially when you realize it probably wasn't done on the first take.
Wearing all those clothes, which are sopping wet, and that water ruining the shoes, getting into the socks, and you've got to run in it -
Granted, I'm sure the actors got a great paycheck out of it. But every time I watch them running in the rain, I can't help but feel for those poor, wrinkled little toes encased in shoes that are screaming "No - keep the mold away! Save us, Gold Bond!"

I can't get the file to download. It keeps erroring out or resetting. It looks like they can't hold the connection. Wow. Just wow.

I was downloading the torrent at 95KB/s but now its stuck at 62%. Unfortunantly, it is downloading at 0KB/s and uploading at 2KB/s.
Your thoughts?
I recall reading that one of those W brothers was undergoing a divorce at the time when Reloaded was being shot. That probably seriously messed with his concentration and as a result, the plot and pacing stunk.
Only good part of Reloaded was the freeway scene.
Everything else sucked bigtime.
Since Revolutions was shot at the same time as Reloaded, it probably will suck ass too because of the divorce distractions.
I'm not kidding. divorce really messes with people's lives.
But at least we have LOTR to look forward to.
Lucky thing - if Matrix Reloaded had won an Oscar, I'd be torn between losing faith in the Academy or in the Matrix series, and might suffer a fit.
My bittorrent is downloading at 0kB/s and uploading at 0kB/s. I thought it was supposed to speed up with more connections, damnit!

Before I spend the next hour attempting to download this trailer from both BitTorrent and WB. Can someone tell me if this is the same trailer as the one at the end of the Matrix: Reloaded? Thanks!
Go check out internetpulse.com
Yes: fake trailers that give you an idea of what is in the movie but are ficticious and don't actually apear in the movie. Just think of the abuse though...;-( Or maybe the fake stuff can come from the inevitable added footage of the dvd release. Pretty dry stuff tho, but it would give them incentive to spice up that stuff a little. And then people will totally crave the cool stuff on the dvd. Win win all the way. As a TiVo watcher I am mostly immune to trailers that are not in the first & last spot in a blipvert sequence. But sometimes sheer fatigue creeps up on you, especially in a long pre-campaign like the Matrix.

I kept getting reset as well, but issueing "wget -c http://pdl.warnerbros.com/thematrix/us/med/revolut ions_640_dl.zip" repeatedly eventually got me the whole thing.
Ok, I admit this is 100% flamebait post, but I have to vent a little bit. Sorry, here goes.
Ok, bittorrent is officially the most overrated piece of technology ever. I love how slashdot posts torrent links to things that wget is perfectly capable of getting from the official website, which probably has more bandwidth than God. Torrent is only good for pirating movies, despited what anyone says, a fast ftp mirror is always better for downloading a linux distro. You'd be out of your damn mind to use torrent for shit like this.
Right now, I'm sitting here, trying to see if this torrent will work at all. It's downloading at a nice rate of 5k/second, and my upload pipe is maxed out. Way to go, bittorrent. I hope nobody needs anything from my webserver.
Anyways, I'm done for the time being. Thankfully, the godly wget will be able to help me out once the crappy python bt client fails.

Did anyone ever think that perhaps it would be lighter on their servers if you linked to one of the smaller versions of the trailer? The sooner one person is done hogging the bandwidth, the sooner someone else gets to connect.
...any moment now. Why bother downloading it myself when hundreds of students are already overloading our bandwidth quota in an attempt to download it for me?
The torrents have been slashdotted, but my download is still going slow. What gives?
wget -c is your friend - it came in 300-500k chunks before the connection was reset.
I'd hate to get their bandwidth bill.
The IMAX here at the Zoo is so lame that they won't play it (Because it's not 'educational'), but then again, they bitch about not making enough money... Stupid stupid people.
Hell, I want an MPEG/2/4 or DivX download that I can burn to a SVCD or DVD and play on my big-screen TV without transcoding it.
This Quicktime stuff is crap. Ever since Apple stung me by releasing a new version just a couple of days after I ante'd up with the cash for a full-copy of Quicktime and left me with the option of paying again or having an old version on my hands I dumped it.
What's with the movie industry -- they seem to think that the only formats available are proprietary ones from Apple or Microsoft.
The only significant spoiler I can recall was Stifler shagging the grandma. That was a pity because there was actually quite a bit of a lead up to that gag in the movie which was wasted as you knew what was going to happen.
Even with a few spoilers the movie was so packed full of hilarity (assuming it matches your sense of humour) that there was still plenty of enjoyment to be had. In some parts of the movie you couldn't hear the dialogue because everyone was laughing so hard (and it wasn't annoying because you were part of it).
If you only see one knob gag orientated movie this year American Wedding has to be it.

Is the MPAA evil because it's part of the Evil Copyright Industry? Or is it cool because it's the source of the Matrix movies?
Or, alternatively: Is it evil because it's the source of the Matrix movies?
Both movies were shot at the same time to avoid that possible actor strike or whatever it was. So ...
Revolutions is unlikely to be a better movie (but I am hoping).
As for a special effects Oscar, maybe they can pull that off with the extra 8 months of post production, but 8 months doesn't leave room for a hell of a lot of new & innovative fx. Especially not geniunely new & kool fx like bullet time.
The dancing battle was _much_ funnier.

"I'm making perfect sense, you're just not keeping up."
What about them , how they made it shows about new movies, usually 3-4 days after its release you see adds for the show. That spoils a movie big time. THe movie is not out weeks and you can watch how they made it. They should realize most people are waiting for the crow lull to go down but why bother. They should not be showing any how they mad it shows until 6+ months after the release in that area.
They are in so much of a hurry to squeeze every buck out of a movie, they don't realize how much they are spoiling it and loseing more money than ever.
Don't show anyone anything for 24 months, make them goto previews or the movie to find out anything.
Movies suck now a days, why bother when everyone has a friend with cable and you can see it before its even in the local theaters.

Yeah, tripes are pretty bad. Back off man, I'm a geek.
The article mentions that Kill Bill could face problems simmilar to Matrix Reloaded/Revolutions in terms of Oscar consideration. Can't they just show a preview screening of Kill Bill (in limited release) as one movie, as intended, to get around this dilema and proceed to release it in two parts as planned?

Similar story here. WB's site dropped my connection a couple times. So I tried the BT link. It took a couple minutes to ramp up, and I eventually got the file in less than 10 minutes. Probably would have been a lot faster if ... cluster(?)... to develop) and
1)I didn't read this article so soon (to give more time for the BT
2) My upstream wasn't a relatively measly 40KBps.
Now that I think about it, is BT legal in this case? We're probably commiting copywrite infringment by distributing this trailer. Not that anyone's likely to sue... or complain in this case.
Anyone else having trouble with mplayer and sound on the mid-resolution .mov?
Slightly offtopic, but if you have good ears and good speakers, you can hear a high-pitched carrier frequency everytime someone speaks in this Matrix trailer.
I notice it quite a lot in movies these days. I presume it's related to the digital process.. but why do they allow it?
WARNING: This post contains opinions, initial (possibly incorrect) reactions, and spoilers. Skip it if that sort of think makes you irratible.
Tell me it's a teaser. Please tell me it's a teaser and this is going to be cleaned up.
I'll be as vague as possible. Watch the "running down the street to punch each other" scene. Notice they're running, running...suddenly they're standing still for the slow motion shot? Messy. Do a frame by frame. Notice they don't even connect, and the flash is used to distract form that. By the time your eyes stop hurting, they're already reeling. You can tell both these films where shot at the same time...they look hurried. Everything else is very well lit and kind of phony looking, none of the dark errie reality of the original. Still, can't wait to see this amazing helicopter finale they made such a big deal about.

Tried the bittorrent link and now im done downloading. Yay
i saw it in the imax in rochester on the imax opening day. it wasn't full. we bought our tickets right there, went in about 10 minutes before it started, and found 8 decent seats in a row for us all to sit in..
I'd avoided seeing it up until then, I'm glad I did.. I liked it. Not as good as the first, but it was still decent. I think revolutions will prolly be better, though..

Is this the same trailer that was after the credits of Reloaded?
You're mixing an emotional judgement with a functional and political one.
:)
Quicktime is crap because Apple upgraded days after you bought it; that's emotional, and has no bearing on technology, functionality, or politics.
Quicktime is available to 99% of the viewing public: Built into the Mac, and often installed on PCs. Why? Because Apple invented (or very nearly did so) the computer video industry *with* Quicktime. Old habits die hard. That's politics/legacy.
As for technology? Apple Quicktime 6 treats mpeg4 *as* a native format. *If* the industry ever supports mpeg4, why do you think it won't be played back on 99% of computers as Quicktime? IE, mpeg4 encoded, quicktime contained.
Then there's functionality. I've already mentioned mpeg4; for all you know, this trailer is *already* encoded in mpeg4. It could be Sorenson3 or any of a number of other officially supported codecs. If you want divx, there's nothing stopping Apple from adopting divx... except of course that you would still be bitching because you don't get what you want... Raw video
If you don't want to transcode it..? I dunno what options you have, except possibly getting an mpeg4 capable DVD player and hoping the industry adopts Apple's Quicktime Mpeg4.

Just use a download manager like Reget (www.reget.com), or any manager that automatically opens new/multiple sessions. If warner resets your connection, the manager will just open another one (or multiple sessions) to compensate. I just downloaded the trailer in 2 min., after failing several times with Opera.
Matrix Recycled -- I mean, Reloaded, WAS the trailer for 3. Honestly, that movie was a huge disappointment for me. Absolutely nothing new there. The storyline was so vague, only thing that sticks in my mind was the Cadillac product placement. I'll probably check out 3 after release on DVD.

Seriously. I mean, I see folks complaining about BitTorrent links not working. How about some old fashioned Peer2Peer answers? And seeing as Kazaa is kinda unreliable, how about eMule links?
I mean, it's open source, it only takes one person to 'verify' the links. (The poster, in a Slashdot posting case.) No servers to bother with. I mean, c'mon. It just makes sense.

so during the trinity-neo sex scene, did you think "if they only showed porn on these things, they'd make millions!"
Now, I know that on Slashdot as of late it has been decided that we will no longer be permitted to discuss things as the following when a shiny new movie is released (as I have well found out by previous moderation), but I thought I would nonetheless try once again.
Why have things changed? Why don't we talk about such things anymore?
Since this is a story about Warner Bros, and given the many Slashdot stories about this fine corporation and its parent company, as well as several regarding a prominent trade organization to which it belongs, I could not help but conclude the following ought to be both relevant and on topic.
To start, I dropped a little write-up in my journal which may or may not have some entertainment value for you.
That said, I spent a minute or two and started collecting a few rather uninteresting links.
Perhaps Slashdot readers can contribute to this woefully inadequate list?
It would be quite nice to have all of the information in one place, so that it can be referenced by a simple link in future stories where it is relevant, as is this one.
Warner Bros orders 15 year-old Christie Chan to turn over www.harrypotternetwork.net.
Warner Bros orders www.harrypotterisawizard.co.uk to be handed over.
Warner Bros orders 15 year-old Claire Field to turn over www.harrypotterguide.co.uk.
Warner Bros demands 10 year-old daughter hand over www.harry-potter-magic.co.uk.
Because Warner Bros cares so much about you, you can not be allowed access to a signal sent into your house, and not even to exercise widely presumed fair use rights over its content.
And say, has anyone heard about something called DeCSS or the DMCA?
My memory is a bit foggy on this point, but I seem to recall something or another about Warner Bros being involved here? Does it ring a bell for anyone else? Maybe not.

The whole human battery thing is stupid! All humans do is convert food to energy by burning it. The thing is, they do it inefficiently-producing much heat, and they also need vitamins etc. which have no energy value. Any machine could convert energy better than a human. Why not just burn whatever they feed the human and use it to move a turbine?

Why is it that companies out there always try and reinvent the wheel and usually die trying?
There are companies out there who have proven that they can host movie trailers without dieing under the load.
This could possible be because the actress who played the Oracle, Gloria Foster passed away before Revolutions was filmed. Agent Smith in the Oracle's kitchen could be a "workaround" for not having the Oracle in the film at all.

On another note, does anyone else think that the Matrix sequels aren't particularly necessary? The Matrix was an excellent movie, but they seemed to paint themselves into a corner making Neo all powerful, for any sequels anyway. I thought The Matrix had a great ending - what happened afterwards was left up to the moviegoer's imagination.
The makers of the Matrix films are considering only promoting the third film, Matrix Revolutions, for next year's Oscars.
Translation: "Matrix Reloaded sucked, but Matrix Revolutions won't, really!"
I couldn't agree more, they put waaay too much into trailers sometimes. In the Two Towers trailer, they actually went so far as to show that Gandalf was alive even though as far as the plot and the characters were concerned he was dead as of the end of the first movie. To me this is the equivalent of making a trailer for the Empire Strikes back and putting in a clip of Darth Vader saying "I am your father!" and Luke screaming "No!!!"
Yeah, yeah, I know we all know that Gandalf was going to live because we're cool and we read the books, but perhaps there were people out there who didn't know, and after all it's the principle of the thing. The worst part is that you can't escape the trailers when you go to see a movie.

Somebody rip the trailer and hosted at their site.
Check it out at http://www.ec.com.my/revol.mov
In the book there are whole different adventures on the way to Modor that have been deleted out for the sake of lousy action scenes. For example did you know that Gandalf actually sent Strider to meet up with Frodo? Or that the riders did not know where Frodo was and were confused for the first third of the book? Or the whole crew got eaten up by a tree way before they entered the bar "prancy poney"?
Also their are many stories about middle earth that are not in the movie that will make you appreciate the movies more.
It was a climax because you wondered how they would throw off the riders next. They went through whole shortcuts in swamps and forests to throw them off. It was way after the prancing poney did the riders know for sure where Frodo was going. Infact the riders can only see him with the ring and not automatically know where he is the second he puts the ring on. THey still can sniff it if Frodo is close however.
I will not spoil it for you but the subplots were deffinetly different. Go read the first 2 books and then watch the movie last. This way you will not be spoiled and know more about middle earth that was deleted from the movies. Then you can finish return of the king on your own.

No, the oracle was replaced. They used her replacement in Enter the Matrix and wrote off the new actress with some retarded one-line explanation. Hopefully that won't be part of the movie, but the game is supposedly Matrix canon, so that's probably the official story.
you're new here aren't you ...
Think 'chi energy' rather than electrical or heat energy, and think 'alien' instead of 'machine', and you're getting closer. (Alien, like the ones Neo and Trinity are made up to look like on the box cover of the first film with their fancy and specially designed sunglasses.)
Also, rather than the 'matrix' being a computer generated affair into which we are all plugged, think in broader terms. The directors of The Matrix were either being very deliberate in their actions, or they were channeling some serious shit from one of the many groups which send such messages.
While the first film had its corruptions, (the grey-alien-as-savior references being a big one), the second film seemed to me a completely screwed up jumble. --Which, incidentally is how the real matrix works; it likes to mess around with incoming data which has been identified as having the potential to enlighten.
--I'm just glad that all three of the Lord of the Rings films were shot at the same time, far, far away from the clutches of Hollywood!

Am I the only one who was bored to hell with the recent ROTK trailer? To me there was almost nothing original there, the same old shots of the same old characters. More of the same, especially since Jacko decided to make TTT a movie about Helm's Deep battle and saturated us with the cavalry shots or orc shots or battering ram shots.
Compared to that Matrix 3 looks (at least to me personally and from the trailers that I saw) really fresh and new, which is a surprise, since it should have been just another greenish-hued film about the same old trinity (Neo+Trinity+Morpheus).
I don't know what is that Wachowski brothers have that allows them to make original and innovative sequels (yes, Matrix 2 had it's flows and we haven't seen the third installment yet). Good filmmaking skills may be or is that too banal?

I though this was the trailer to the next movie.
I can't wait for the IMAX release. 60-foot surround sound whoa-a-vision.
Didnt the article say that films 2 and 3 were shot on the same 240 day shoot?
I have no sig yet I must scream.
Welcome to the world of marketing lies.
I forgot to mention that this mpeg version of the trailer has some additional footage. COOL!
Your ticket doesn't come with a row and seat number? What's the point in ordering tickets in advance if you can't specify where you want to sit?
the voice of the person narrating the trailer is the "new" Oracle`s
I hadn't seen any trailers before the movie, but I thought it was pretty obvious that he was going to win that fight. Which was the whole problem: given that I knew he was going to win, what was that point? It just dragged on and on and on and on and on and on and on for no good reason other than to allow the directors to show how 'cool' their effects were.
Matrix 2 would be a much, much better movie if they'd cut out the boring half-hour, including most of that fight and a significant chunk of the freeway battle. Matrix 1 never had much of a story, but at least the effects scenes never got boring: Matrix 2 was just a porn movie for effects fetishists.
DUH! A fag.
Personally I found the books tedious as hell: I've started them several times and never got more than half-way through the first one because Tolkein was continually getting distracted from the plot to rabbit on about his world background and Elvish language or whatever. So from my point of view, the movies are much, much better than the books.
I was really excited seeing the Reloaded trailer. Too bad the movie, as a whole, sucked. One can only pray this will be better....
Anyone notice this at the end of the BBC article... "There may also be two Kill Bill films this year because director Quentin Tarantino has split the movie into two, leaving its producers Miramax with the same dilemma." Looks like a good movie, but is there really enough of a story that the movie has to be split into two parts?
so what?
based on the origin of the man vs machine war described in the Animatrix shorts, i fully expect all machines and all humans to die at the end of revolutions, because they deserve it for ruining the planet.
None of you asshole mods even CHECKED that link, did you??
(especially as it did suck really bad...)
Looking at it, especially the comment in the trailer "The machines will breach the dock walls in twelve hours" makes me think that the 3rd movie will show things that we didn't see but know already happened in the 2nd. Such as the battle (and subsequent destruction) of Zion, which is shown several times in both trailers. We where just told about it in the 2nd, perhaps we actually see it in the third.
Maybe we DID take the blue pill. You wouldn't remember anyway.
You mean your PC was so overloaded that it got blown through the roof at mach 2? Totally heinous, dude.

After all, all those Smiths have to do something other than twiddling their thumbs. And they wouldn't need training, either.
So, have any theaters annouced plans to run reloaded and revolutions back to back? I've never been to a double feature, and this seems like a good place to start.
And no, I haven't seen reloaded yet. There was too much hype, I'd have left the theater disappointed.
There are some people that if they don't know, you can't tell 'em.
If you knew Rosebud is a sled, a big portion of the suspense is missing.
Compare Kane to another surprise driven movie and you'll see how things are the same... Usual Suspects is still entertaining even once you know who Keyser Soze is.
On the other hand, Casablanca is more about the journey. Compare it to Twelve Monkeys, where they spoil the ending within the trailer and within the movie, but you don't know it until you're 85% of the way into the movie.
She died after filming most of the scenes in Reloaded. They had not yet got to her scenes in Revolutions. I guess this was similar to what happened with Aaliyah.

This trailer has been on Kazaa since the second movie opened.
As cool as IMAX is, it makes for the worst movie watching experience ever. I'm sure most cinemaphiles will agree: that screen is tooo freaking big. What is the point of watching a movie on a screen when you can only focus on maybe 25% of the screen at one time. You have to constantly traverse the image field of that screen to see what the hell is going on. Wayy to much movement to enjoy 'watching' something. That, and the film is cropped from original aspect ratio to fit that screen which is nowhere near 1:2.35 or 1:1.8 (typical AR's for most movies today)

I can't watch the trailer at work, and I think it's because of the stupid firewall! *cries* Now I'll have to wait 8 hours before I can go home and see it! Not fair!
This could possible be because the actress who played the Oracle, Gloria Foster [imdb.com] passed away before Revolutions was filmed.
According to the imdb.com, she died on september 29th 2001.... That would even be before Reloaded.
You are more than the sum of what you consume. Desire is not an occupation.

Beginning of the trailer:

(pause)
You're back.
(pause+snarl)
We..missed you.
Aaahahahahaha...oh, shit I gotta see this movie.
I later drove that phrase into the ground, almost.
On a more serious note, there was a matrix site where one poster postulated that "the machines didn't win".
Anyone else read that? It took into account the two movies, game, and Animatrix (didn't play the game so couldn't comment on that aspect).
After seeing Reloaded again, well, the idea had merit, but diminished because something didn't seem right (ok, "Like a splinter in my mind...driving me mad"...ok, ok, 'short trip' I hear you say).
I think it was the disabling of the Sentinals and then slipping into a coma that was a "wait a minute" moment...an it just hit me a second ago:
*Assume* it was correct, that the machines didn't win...could it be the humans (matrix) are the machines (real) trying to break out and the machines (matrix) are the humans (real)?
Yeah...damn I can't wait for the next movie.

Check out http://www.xzaust.com/index.php?page=matrix - they've posted the supposed leaked plotline broken down in sequence with screenshots of the trailer. As much as people protest and as much as I hate to think it... it seems like this is the acutal storyline of the movie.
It will be on the first DVD.

That's why they replaced her.
Besides, maybe Agent Smith just wanted one of those cookies.

couldn't they just re-create her digitally?

That's a reasonable question. My response is that you may not necessarily be right about the efficiency thing. Think of a turbine; the hot gas coming out the tailpipe carries away waste heat - heat that the engine could not transform into mechanical energy. On the other hand, if you fed human bodies and were able to get their heat out really, really well, then you might be onto something better.
Other thoughts have come to mind: the pods ought to look like they're pretty well-insulated; maybe they are - I can't tell. There's the massive-parallelization aspect and the self-replicating aspect. It also occurs to me that maybe the people should be made to swim around or something in their pods.
One conscious but mostly static person, IIRC, is good for about 75 watts. So, we'd all be good for about 450GW.
One self-saving concept is that once we "scorched the sky," the AI system would have run through its options and somehow arrived at what we are shown it eventually does in the movie; its logic and process for doing that may be inscrutable for us because, well, it wouldn't think the way we think. It may have traded away efficiency for longevity, for example.
It also occurs to me that somehow, in some fashion, the great driver behind this human/pod "engine" still must be the sun - unless it also or instead tapped into something like the heat inside the Earth (possibly nuclear-reaction-driven) or the Earth's rotation.
The system may have needed the "coppertops" as a stopgap measure until the sky cleared itself, however, one wonders if the system could have just as easily built a "sky cleaner" as it could have built a Matrix for people to "live" in.
Anyway, that's how I kind of filled in the missing information in my own mind.
Anyone thought that the voice over sounds alot like the Oricle. I wonder what the possibility the little speach she is giving is to Agent Smith.

And don't get me started on Titanic.
Maybe when you see revolutions it'll all be wrapped up nicely. If the "real world" is just another layer of the matrix where they send the people who have trouble "accepting" the main matrix, then the whole humans as batteries thing and the war against the machines is just the story fed to the escapees to keep them too occupied to realize they haven't escaped. Think about it, at the end of reloaded neo uses his matrix "powers" in the supposed real world. Other than magic (I really hope they didn't go there) there's no good explanation other than the real world being a matrix too.
Re-tardis maybe, god I hope the 3rd one is not so serious. The minute the wacky brothers started actually thinking they were profound instead of movie makers things got stupid....

The Wachowskis had originally planned that sort of "narrative switch" but didn't want to do that to Gloria Foster. However, what happened happened, and while unfortunate, it did allow them to go through with their original plan of having the Merovingian delete the Oracle.

If you compare the trailer that came at the end of the video game (I don't know if it was the same as the one at the end of the movie) to the new trailer, it's obvious where Agent Smith says "Mr. Anderson, welcome back, we missed you" that his inflection is totally different. The first one was so much better. Given that it's going to be one of the memorable lines from the movie, I can't figure why they changed it.
Happy goldfish bowl to you.
I personally think that The Usual Suspects has a great deal of artistic value, but I would've been pissed had they said "***** ****** is Keyser Soze" in a trailer.

my blog
I have figured out the significance of neo being the 6th one. lemme know what you thik of this. In genesis, man is created on the sixth day of creation, therefore the number 6 would represent man, and the fact that neo is the sixth one and his old name was thomas anderson, thomas relating to the doubting thomas because neo does doubt at first and then anderson which means son of adam 'son of man' I'm surpirsed they didn't make his name adam. but neo is DEFINITELY cooler.anyways, also the number 666 is the antichrist. think about this...the number 3 is associated with the real christ, and if the holy trinity consists of the father, son and holy spirit, so christs number could be 333, in the same way that the opposite of christ would be 666. we are the'gods' of the machines. in the animatrix we 'created them in our own likeness. Wanting to be like God is what made us all fall in the beginning, so neo being the 6th one gives an indication that man will be victorious over machine...and unwittingly I ahve also explained who the antichrist actually is...US! thats a very wachowskian twist...any takers anybody?

In the trailer, the final "Matrix Revolution" titles have a lot more 8s and 4s in the streams of green text and katakana than the random sh*t seen before. Also, there were lots of "hachi" characters, which is the Japanese symbol for 8. Anyone have ideas about that?
The voice you're hearing is that of actress Mary Alice. Gloria Foster (who played The Oracle in the first two films) died on 2001-09-29. Ms. Alice takes over the role of The Oracle in Revolutions, as well as in the Enter the Matrix video game. Obviously, fanboys aren't interested in things like an actor's death, so an ad hoc explanation was devised to explain why The Oracle looks different now. (Personally, I don't understand the problem. Most people accept the various incarnations of James Bond without batting an eye, but change the actor playing Darrin Stephens and the nation is plunged into chaos.)
The same idea occurred to me. The first film's message could potentially be summed up as, "Things are not what they seem." That (and Hollywood's tendency to create downright deceptive trailers) leads me wonder Who is she talking to and and who is she talking about? Is it who most assume it would be? The film would be much more interesting if it's not.
Added to that, I'd like to toss in an observation about the trailer at the end of Enter the Matrix. A bit from the trailer shows Niobe saying, "Neo...", followed by some random action, then Morpheus saying, "He fights for us." The message you're supposed to receive is that these two bits are connected, but I don't think so. To me, Morpheus looks confused when he says that line, as if he can't quite accept what he's saying. Also, he says it barely above a whisper, indicating he might be talking to himself.
I don't know; I guess it'll be public knowledge soon enough.
