Matrix Revolutions Trailer Released

aerojad writes "The new Matrix Revolutions trailer is now available for download (direct link) on the official site. If you have plugin/bandwidth issues, there are also BitTorrent links available. For those wondering, there is more to it than you saw at the end of Reloaded." In related news, an anonymous reader points to the BBC News report that: "The makers of the Matrix films are considering only promoting the third film, Matrix Revolutions, for next year's Oscars. Warners, which produced the films, had considered pushing for both of them to be nominated as a single entry because they were shot on the same 240-day shoot, but the academy refused."

This in turn could lead to retransmits/rate throttling by the server sending you the matrix (or whatever), thus causing slower downloads. Allow me to offer another opinion. The second movie was really good, it was just laid out poorly. Everything you were looking for was there, it was just all crammed into one part of the movie. You didn't have time to digest what was happening in the plot before the next big action sequence. In the first one, you got to figure out what was going on as you went. In the second one, it was action action action PLOT action action action. Yes, the love scene was bad, the "Soddom and Gomorrah" part could have been done a little better. Morpheus did pontificate a little too much, and some of the dialog was corny. But I think when you can finally put all the movies together the second one will fit. At least I hope it will. I was disappointed right after I saw it, but the more I talked about it with my wife, I saw some of the more symbolic references. Now with most movies, I would think that it could just be coincidental, but I think the Warchowski brothers know what they are doing, and put them in there on purpose.

I am glad that they had some swordplay in the second one, I thought that was pretty cool. But I think that the real gist of the second movie was to introduce The Architect and to let agent Smith go off the deep end.

The first movie was better, because it introduced The Matrix to us. There is nothing they could do in the second one to compete with that, just like T2 couldn't come up with the same magic of the Terminator. (although they did a nice twist with the second one where Arnold was the good guy). But with the Terminator, they had nowhere to go with the 3rd one. I didn't see it, and probably won't. The interest wasn't there for me. With The Matrix, I really want to see what happens in the third one. Hopefully they'll wrap it up nicely and make it a great trilogy.

I'd also suggest finding more sources for information.. more widespread sources than The Reg. Then, perhaps, you could get a rousing conversation going about how evil this company is.. or, if it's rejected, you have something slightly more satisfying to complain about than "did you see that? I was modded down as soon as I said this! Censorship in action! I mean, sure, it wasn't removed, and anyone who cares to can still read what I said, but it's still censorship!!!1!"

For example did you know that Gandalf actually sent Strider to meet up with Frodo? Or that the riders did not know where Frodo was and were confused for the first third of the book? Or the whole crew got eaten up by a tree way before they entered the bar "prancy poney"?

Also their are many stories about middle earth that are not in the movie that will make you appreciate the movies more.

It was a climax because you wondered how they would throw off the riders next. They went through whole shortcuts in swamps and forests to throw them off. It was way after the prancing poney did the riders know for sure where Frodo was going. Infact the riders can only see him with the ring and not automatically know where he is the second he puts the ring on. THey still can sniff it if Frodo is close however.

I will not spoil it for you but the subplots were deffinetly different. Go read the first 2 books and then watch the movie last. This way you will not be spoiled and know more about middle earth that was deleted from the movies. Then you can finish return of the king on your own.

Well, the last time I went to see TTT in the theatre, I decided to time all the Helm's Deep battle segments. There's four sequences (intercut with the Ents, and Osgiliath), the longest of which is about 6 minutes. The grand total of all four Helm's Deep battle sequences? 15 minutes. Out of 180. Or, about 8% of the movie. There's simply such an incredible amount of action happening, it SEEMS like so much longer.

Now, Faramir dragging Frodo and the Ring to Osgilath, THAT was totally lame. I read in an interview with one of the writers (Philippa Boyens?) that they did that to give Faramir's character "more of a journey", because in the book, his character is very stagnant while everyone else goes through changes.

Think of a turbine; the hot gas coming out the tailpipe carries away waste heat - heat that the engine could not transform into mechanical energy. On the other hand, if you fed human bodies and were able to get their heat out really, really well, then you might be onto something better.

Other thoughts have come to mind: the pods ought to look like they're pretty well-insulated; maybe they are - I can't tell. There's the massive-parallelization aspect and the self-replicating aspect. It also occurs to me that maybe the people should be made to swim around or something in their pods.

One conscious but mostly static person, IIRC, is good for about 75 watts. So, we'd all be good for about 450GW.

One self-saving concept is that once we "scorched the sky," the AI system would have run through its options and somehow arrived at what we are shown it eventually does in the movie; its logic and process for doing that may be inscrutable for us because, well, it wouldn't think the way we think. It may have traded away efficiency for longevity, for example.

It also occurs to me that somehow, in some fashion, the great driver behind this human/pod "engine" still must be the sun - unless it also or instead tapped into something like the heat inside the Earth (possibly nuclear-reaction-driven) or the Earth's rotation.

The system may have needed the "coppertops" as a stopgap measure until the sky cleared itself, however, one wonders if the system could have just as easily built a "sky cleaner" as it could have built a Matrix for people to "live" in.

Ms. Alice takes over the role of The Oracle in Revolutions, as well as in the Enter the Matrix video game. Obviously, fanboys aren't interested in things like an actor's death, so an ad hoc explanation was devised to explain why The Oracle looks different now. (Personally, I don't understand the problem. Most people accept the various incarnations of James Bond without batting an eye, but change the actor playing Darrin Stephens and the nation is plunged into chaos.)

I wonder what the possibility the little speach she is giving is to Agent Smith.

The same idea occurred to me. The first film's message could potentially be summed up as, "Things are not what they seem." That (and Hollywood's tendency to create downright deceptive trailers) leads me wonder Who is she talking to and and who is she talking about? Is it who most assume it would be? The film would be much more interesting if it's not.

Added to that, I'd like to toss in an observation about the trailer at the end of Enter the Matrix. A bit from the trailer shows Niobe saying, "Neo...", followed by some random action, then Morpheus saying, "He fights for us." The message you're supposed to receive is that these two bits are connected, but I don't think so. To me, Morpheus looks confused when he says that line, as if he can't quite accept what he's saying. Also, he says it barely above a whisper, indicating he might be talking to himself.

I don't know; I guess it'll be public knowledge soon enough.
