You could borrow from the current research into 3D viewer-independant displays - there are people working on ways to allow 3d displays to be viewed by many people from many positions...
Obviously easier said than done, but it's worth a thought...
I know this is the digital age and all, but as I think someone pointed out above (albeit rather convoulutedly), 99% of the time you can't tell the difference between an analogue and a digital copy.
Only difference being, rip the CD on "Analogue Input" mode. Easy! If everyone did this instead of getting pissed about it, the RIAA would possibly get bored and wander off...and maybe design CDs glued into the jewel case or something.
You say "jumped up", but there'd be a world of difference between something that could make a solid plastic model of a CAD drawing and a device that could build you a fully working digital camera from scratch.
My favorite, the Personal Fabricator, ("a printer that outputs working things instead of static objects")
This bears resemblance to "Molecular Compilers" as imagined by Neal Stephneson in everyone's favourite nanotechnology novel, The Diamond Age, a device where you simply insert the program describing the object you want, plus payment, and return in an hour or so to retrieve your newly formed item.
Didn't you know? It's illegal to THINK about this kind of stuff now.
Microsoft's clickwrap agreement now states that you're only licensing the right to use your own brain matter, and they're legally entitled to read it at thier leisure?
Since this seems to support hot-swapping, how about adopting it as a standard for portable storage devices? A few SATA ports on the back of my laptop wouldn't go amiss, and you could use drives either internally or externally.
On top of that, it's faster than Firewire/i.Link and USB2.0. Sort out power supply and it'd be invaluable.
Dunno about anyone else, but I'll be VERY glad to see the back of all that master/slave crap, twisted ribbon cables and so on.
Jesus! Totally agree with MooseGuy! Hey, I read the papers, watch the news. Don't you ever watch TV to relax? I have an uncle living in Israel 500 yards from a border with Palestine, and friends in Palestine whose neighbours are getting recruited to blow themselves up. And you think we don't worry just because we have hobbies and jobs? But I guess you're not capable of thinking about more than one thing at a time.
Their problem was they thought that the Cybiko itself *was* the killer app - instead, everyone waited around for someone else to write it.
I thought I was on the forefront of personal comms technology - turns out I walked around shopping malls for 6 months trying (in vain) to find someone else with another damn Cybiko.
...to name but a few. All British...
Not lessening the acheivements of the USA, but get some world perspective! This is exactly why so many Brits get pissed at so many Americans.
And Einstein (German) had a reasonably large involvement in the development of atom bomb physics.
I was reading this 10 minutes before this sotry was posted!
It's on the BetaNews slashbox, right here. Jeez, does everyone *just* read Slashdot?

Ugh.
And that's half way along the path to nano-coatings which blend in with the scenery behind you...
...or is is a cloaked Klingon Warbird?
"Is that you or is it just a blurry lamppost?"

Found the offending subject here.
There's also this if you fancy a model that melts...

Gives a whole new meaning to Internet Shopping...
By preventing them from copying the data in your head (by RF shielding your brain), your violating their copyright.
And, quite possibly, the copyright on tin-foil hats...

On with the tin foil hats....

Or is this a very similar question (or at least a very similar answer) to this very recent Ask Slashdot?
Jesus!

How about this:
...to name but a few. All British...
Tim Berners-Lee - invented the web
Alan Turing - pioneer in computing
Stephen Hawking - international physics genius

Sorry for being a discompassionate b****d, but what does this have to do with OSS?
where did you get the LCDs? I'm in needs of lots of them myself...
cheers,
