Do you look through all your spam for phishing emails? What I meant was that in 1992, I'd get one spam email every couple of days so it was not much work to email abuse@... and postmaster@ or look through the headers to see where they came from. Now I get 200 a day, with maybe a few dozen making it through the filters. I don't have time or inclination to even look through those but just delete them on site. I like the phisher no more than I like the guy offering me hot stock that's just waiting to explode, a $400,000 mortgage with only a $200/mo payment, or MR THIMBUKTU FROM NIGERIA. Every one is a scam trying to rip you off.
Whenever I receive a phishing email, I immediately capture what I can of it (including headers,) then head to the legitimate site and look for a place to report it.
I used to do that about spam......in 1992. Seriously, where do you find the time?
A little tough love. Hit 'em where it hurts and maybe they'll learn. If I got scammed on the web, I'd feel like such a fool I probably wouldn't bother seeking a refund.
Selling the Chines databases and two-way radios is bad? I don't get it. Also, where does in the article does it even mention two-way radios, video probes or DNA analysis?
That's all I ever use it for. Sleeping. Oh, and falling asleep. And I guess waking up. And, you know, with the wife. I use my bed for bed-type related activities. No TV, no computer, no phone. Those aren't bed related activities.
If your defecation is so out of control that you need a $1000 toilet to help stay "fresh", then maybe you should address your diet. If everytime you have a sit down you end up with explosive shit-chunks plastered all over you nether regions, then SOMETHING IS WRONG. If you need a computer-assisted washdown, you are a sick animal. You need to get your fat ass out of the Taco Bell line and down to the produce aisle of your local grocery store, stat.
This bidet garbage was invented when contaminated water gave everyone a daily dose of the runs. You should not need it today. If you do, you are unhealthy.
Heh, the old "It sucks, therefore copying is not a crime" argument. If it sucks, why are you stealing it?
Actually, I find these numbers kind of refreshing. The kids are essentially admitting that copying music/movies off the net is a crime. They feel a little justified in 'borrowing' it when they personally know someone who payed for it.
Bottom line - even 12 - 17 year olds know in their heart of hearts that they are stealing.
Hey, I'm ovbiously out of it right now. Yes, when I hear psuedo, I think sudo. It has nothing to do with phonetics, I just use sudo a hundred times a day and pseudo once a month.
That was my point. I was quoting from the story - basically the guy was saying that it was either A: bad admins, or B: a conspiracy. He concluded that since he personally didn't know any bad admins, that it had to be conspiracy. I can't say if it was one or the other, but his logic is bullshit.
A quick look at this from a semi-competent admin (myself) brings me to one of two conclusions. 1) The admin(s) of this site are TOTALLY incompetent, or 2) this server was made vulnerable on purpose, in order to attract or make possible a DoS attack, which could then be used to generate negative publicity and sympathy.
I don't know any admins stupid enough to fall into category #1, so I'm tending to believe it's #2.

Or, as the Communists used to say, "the Capitalists will sell us the rope we will use to hang them."
And we all saw how that worked out for them...

So they get about the same return as relatively safe investments and all it takes is a whole bunch of extra work and risk.

Straw man?
You claim the music sucks, and 'The man' uses the profits to harass 'po peoples' and then magically deduce that copying a CD is not a crime?
Straw man? That's straw man. But it's still the essence of your argument.
Either way, your logic sucks.
Yes, I bought my reasoning at a street market...
I bought the two-pack: Kid's friend bought it, copying it is ok. Kid's friend stole it, copying it not so ok. That's what the numbers say.
Heh, the old "It sucks, therefore copying is not a crime" argument. If it sucks, why are you stealing it?

There's a big difference. You had to have a friend with the album. Napster gave you essentially an infinite number of friends.
It should be called "Common Sense 101". This type of thing should be posted on, oh I don't know, maybe blogs that old people read?
Uh, this isn't exactly the special olympics we're talking about here....

They picked object-oriented languages.
Here's how Napster changed the world: It made a generation of young people think that getting music for free was practically a birthright.
That changed my world, permanently.

hmmm... Something was stripped out of that post. Not much though, because there's not much substance in Dvorak's articles.
Here is sudo code for my articles:

Pattern analysis? Revolutionary.

Please.
We're doomed! DOOOOOOOOOOMED!
You can turn off auto updating in your prefs if you want.
Preferences > Advanced > Update tab.
Yeah, that kind of annoyed me the first time, but in retrospect it is good for the general public to have automatic be on by default.
