I found the Nortel VoIP phones were as good as other PBX system, but it was setup by having a special card sitting in a meridian 1 switch, running on 100MB ethernet hooked up to a Nortel shasta.. great fun. and all the features you could ever want. (IVR, voice mail, etc...) - but not really a setup you would have in a domestic environment, purely because of cost and rack space required.
The ciscos VoIP kit by comparison never worked any where near as well and were very disapointing - if you have a choice always go for the nortel, or at least test out the ciscos for yourself before you buy (they may have improved and/or have a configuration that works for you..)
well in the UK if you plan on owning a television you have to pay the bbc for it, even if you never intend to watch a bbc program (because you could possibly tune into oe of there broadcasts)
OK on adverts (apart from there own programs)
but it does cost £100 or so pounds a year... (on top of any additional cable or satelite service)
Microsoft is very unlikely to adopt an open source development model for a number of reasons
Some of the code used within microsoft products is licensed to microsoft not owned by them (so they are paying royalties to third parties, and connot disclose other peoples closed source code)
microsofts business model isn't suitable for open source, unlike the likes of IBM, who make money from hardware and support as well as the software (Xbox, mice and keyboards being the exceptions) MS relies on other companies and vendors providing support, very few people get support from microsoft directly (if you buy an official copy, rather than an OEM copy, you'll probably be disapointed with the ammount of support you do get) The likes of IBM it really doesn't matter which OS they ship with there products they still provide the support (Be it a MS OS, linux or AIX etc..)
profit margins would decrease and copetition would increase dramitically in the sector which MS operates, and share holders wouldn't be happy, probably neither emploies when cost cutting is needed, one of the many problems with a monopoly (which shouldn't be allowed anyway!, if governments can regulate monopolies shuch as water, gas, electric, mail, telephone etc, whats the problem with regulating the likes of MS?)
personally I'd be happy if MS would just adopt and adhere to open standards, even if there code wasn't open, at least then MS systems would be able to operate with other things without a lot of effort wasted on reverse engineering (is it a fault with 3rd party apps/sytems or is it an undocumented feature of MS? - most CEO's and the likes toe the MS party line so the 3rd party apps/systems are at fault, which in alot of cases is just plain wrong)
er.. I'd disagree we have an i-cube and it need the swap memory allocation tweaking in order to play a DVD all the way through (otherwise it kinda stumbles to a halt/jittery play back after about 45 mins... OK thats what you get for only getting the 64MB version and not getting any more RAM) that and it is fine if you just want to watch a DVD, but if you start playing with the frame size or want the DVD video in a small windows and want to do other things, everything gets kinda bad... DVD play back, app performance etc.....
so tweaking needed yes....
perfect play back not quite...
Ok you didn't need to find a decryption program for CSS... but thats what you get for paying for a CSS key.... and video quality in general on macs is very high, but like every system it isn't perfect...
no skirt is needed the cussion of air is created by the craft traveling fast enough to create pressuried area under the craft large enough to give it lift, sometimes the engines will be directed under the wings in order to increase the effect thus enableing lower "flight" speeds, but alot of energy is wasted in pushing the craft off the ground but rather forward - see some of the other posts referencing how this works....
This particular vehicle relying on the wind ground effect would probably have to sit out the storm until the waves are under 2m, but thats the way it is designed.
There are others which can cope temperarily with bigger disturbances with the ground effect (but gets very bumpy) then,
there are also vehicles which are effectivly planes which can make use of the wind ground effect (because it has alot of advantages, such as energy efficient (not so obvious to radar)) which when it get too bumpy i.e. no ground effect, they revert to normal flight.
These things have been around for years see here dataing back to around 1920 or so, but have never really become commercially viable at least not for mass transportation. and usually are aimed at people (with a fair amount of money) who have to travel relativly larg distances witha a small amount of cargo or passengers where conventional aircraft cannot be used. (they have been used to go over land as well - deserts or anywhere large and relativly flat.)
I do wonder about the site though it does seem odd to have comments like
"...Since the current tends to drag scuba divers at the end of the dive out to the open water, each team should take along a parachute. It is only in this manner that the crew of the boat can be certain of finding lost divers.

now to me that doesn't sound to promotional.
