  1. A better retro case on Retro Palm Pilot Case · · Score: 1

If I were to make a "retro" case for my palm, it'd have to be something with a more "electrical-type" retro style. Remember what old phones were made out of? Imagine a bakelite palm. Now THAT's retro.

That sounds remarkably simialr to my problems with the GeForce. I had consistent lockups only in 3d mode, and only when attempting AGP texturing I managed to disable the texturing, and lost quite a bit of compatibility, but solved the locups in certain situations (I had to run Unreal tournament in OpenGL mode instead of DirectX, because DX7 requires AGP texturing apparently)It wasn't a driver issue. If only it were that easy. Turns out, the GeForce is a power hog, and my old motherboard (a 440lx) just couldn't supply the necessary voltage. So, I bit the bullet and got a BX, and voila! no more lockups! You may want to look into that, especially wiht an Athlon, because, as it turns out, there are some design flaws in the current specs on the Athlon motherboards that cause crashes when a video card attempts AGP sidebanding at AGP 2x. There were some capacitors left out of the design for the motherboards. There should be revised motherboards out soon.

That's funny, as I have similar questions for the creationists. For example, with the exception of the great flood and a realtively small (compared to the number of years in recorded history) other concrete events, none of which were accurately recorded or can be backed up with any evidence other than anecdotal, it seems that God really hasn't done much since He started resting on the seventh day. How do creationists resolve this issue of the existence of God when His actions can be adequately explained without the assumption of the existence of a giant invisible dragon that pushes the stars around(Reference to Nightfall, by Asimov and Silverberg)?

But who are you to decide that for them? I feel it's that parents' place, and if a 9 year old's parents feel that they can watch south park without the threat of the kid turning into a foul mouthed animated piece of cardboard then they should be allowed to, even if the parent does not particualrly want to see the movie. Imagine if you had to sit and watch along with your toddler every time they watched their favorite Teletubbies tape. It would be a pain in the ass! You don't see any problem with them, but Jerry Falwell says that purple non-gender-specific creatures with "magic bags" arte harmful to children. The major problem that I see is that parents are not being allowed to make these decisions about their children. Instead, the decisios are made by politicians, who are being influenced by people like Jerry Falwell. The ONLY ones who can make these decisions are parents, and if it takes a little illegal sneaking of kids into movies to show that parents should be making the rules, thatn let's sneak some kids into movies!

So maybe I'm being a nitpicker, or a devil's advocate, but killing is not the ONLY purpose of a handgun. There are those of us who enjoy target shooting for the self-discipline it involves, the steady breathing, the slow, methodical pull on the trigger. I have used handguns many times, and not once have I ever used one with the intent or result of killing or hurting anything. Frankly, when it comes down to killing, I prefer my rifle. More accurate, don'tcha know. Not once did I ever feel empty while shooting these handguns because I was using them without the intent to fulfill their ONLY purpose, which is, naturally to destroy life. I just gave them a new purpose, to drive nails from 50 feet. I even used wood that I would later use in my campfire so that I wouldn't be destroying the trees. Before you go assingning ethical values to inanimate objects, think of the way that computers are being shown to have the ONE purpose of training kids to be cold ruthless efficient killers (and this IS their only purpose) and realize that it's not the tool that has the motives. Criminals destroy life, just as 2 confused kids murdered their classmates. Computers killed nobody, but if I brained somebody with a hammer, would you want hammers to be banned? They are certainly capable of killing people, but not without human intervention.

The real reason for trying to keep these kids out of movie is overpopulation. If kids see American Pie, they might get silly ideas in their head that sex is good, is an enjoyable experience, which, of course, is not true. And if these kids start having sex, there will be more babies, and thus more overpopulation. The government doesn't want you to know that they supported and planned Columbine. The Colorado food stores were running low, so a little "thinning of the herd" was needed. Think about it. Why else would there be such a stink over sexual and vulgar movies after Columbine instead of the more apparent violent movies? It's planned zero population growth. Write your senator, tell them you support zpg, but instead of taking away sex, one of the few good things left, they should instead encourage violence. That way people can enjoy movies like South Park and Eyes Wide Shut before they are brutally cut down decades before their time.

If you think I sound like an insensitive prick here on /., you should have been there as I was debating this with my friend walking down the street, both of us having punk rock hair, and coming to the conclusion that murder is good, right in front of an open air cafe. Suddenly there's beer everywhere, no parents to tell you to watch your language, and you can smoke whatever you damn well please without mom smelling it on your breath. If you disagree, I encourage you to hang out at an American university for a while (Since America is primarily where this puritan mindset prevails). At university, there's always a bunch of people who are pure little innocent angels, but that lasts about a week. Then, their curiosity at these things that have been hidden from them for so long takes over. Others, like me, had parents who respected their intellect, and knew that "dirty" words have no power if you don't let them, that alcohol makes you feel nice and invincible for a while, unless you take it to extremes, and puke, and smoking just makes it harder to breathe. What's the difference? I had the option to try these things if I wanted to. My mother smoked, and I learned from the smell that it wasn't my thing. My parents let me wath movies with swearing, and let me swear feely, which I never did, as I could never understand what made the words magical, they just seemed stupid to me, and they let me drink alcohol, which I learned to do in moderation, and at ppropriate times, none of this drink every night till you puke mentality that many perople who are more in line with the "positive" (read: athletic) lifestyle.

Heck, it's fun to be jotting down some notes and have someone look at me with a look of disbelief on their face and say "THAT's a computer?"
Smiling's healthy for you. I think that too much emphasis is being placed on productivity and the bottom line, and not enough on actual people. The only thing keeping my life organized is that little tool, but I doubt I'd keep it around if it couldn't be used as a toy.
