  1. Re:Java Server Side NTLM HTTP Auth Made Easy on Mozilla 1.4b Loosed · · Score: 1

I'd mod you up but alas I'm out of mod points when I actually see a post worthy of them, but you posted as AC so that don't matter :)

Gotta agree, struggled for ages trying to get NTLM authentication working in our own custom implementation within a servlet, then came across JCIFS and 5 minutes later I was up and running. Quick and simple, plus it is very well supported by the maintainers.

Unfortunately it doesn't look like Mozilla's implementation of NTLM has gotten as far as the transparent authentication like I was hoping.

It prompts for the login information and logs in fine but all management will say to that is MSIE does it automatically so we'll stick with only supporting that.

  3. Re:Use Mozilla ....... on Prince of Pop-ups · · Score: 1

There is a whitelist available atleast in the Mozilla 1.3 that I am running:

Edit / Preferences, Security & Privacy, Popup Windows, select suppress popups and then you can enter a white list by pressing the exceptions button.

I use Konqueror though and it has a "smart" option, which allows popup windows if you requested them by clicking on a javascript:openWindow link. If a popup opens automatically and is a required feature of the site then the web designer in question needs to be shot especially if it pops up in full screen like I have seen in the past...

  4. Still too buggy on EVE Online Beta Reviews · · Score: 1

I've only tried playing Eve about 3 times, the first time I destroyed a drone in the tutorial instead of just disabling it so it threw an error and crashed. The next time I think it crashed in the market someplace and the time after that I was just exiting a space station when it notified me of a hostile target so naturally I tried targetting them and before I knew it another set of errors, which somehow led to my ship being impounded and me being arrested.

Prior to this the actual gameplay post tutorial did leave me a little dumbfounded as to what to do, it said something about seeing someone for some missions or going to mine on your own, but I got way too bored before I worked out how to do either.

Maybe for players willing to put in the time to learn what you need to do it might be a good game but for me it just looked pretty and had a nifty character creation process.

  5. Re:HTML Editor for win32? on The People Behind Quanta Plus · · Score: 1

I use JEdit when I'm restricted to Win32 but as you stated it doesn't have a tabbed interface but when you have many files open it's just as easy to use the dropdown to switch between files.

I also use GVim when I want something quick and lightweight but I keep forgetting about the different key bindings when I use it so I tend to not use it for any extended editing as I usually end up stuffing things up by trying to copy or paste.

I can see where this is leading though, when is the RIAA going to start doing similar (if they aren't already)?

Then I think it would be a more classical form of entrapment eg. user downloads fake file, RIAA only finds out about user from downloading the fake file and then takes action on that.

    Things could really get interesting...

PS. Anyone seen a record store in a major shopping centre not doing good business lately? I know I haven't...

  7. Entrapment? on ISP Bans RIAA to Protect Its Customers · · Score: 1

Isn't offering up fake MP3's and then acting upon people that download them a form of entrapment? I'm all for what they are doing in regards to blocking the RIAA website, but the assumedly fake MP3's was a bit much IMHO. Jason

  8. My company will be on Who is Using Tomcat or Jetty in Production? · · Score: 1

Can't give their name at this stage, we're only small anyway but prior to me arriving they were using JRun 3.1 exclusively for our Java web app that is purely servlet based. I was studying Java at the time so I pulled down Tomcat, did a bit of configuring, packaged our app to the J2EE standard, deployed it and voila. From my experience performance with Tomcat 4.02 is on a par or even slightly better than JRun 3.1 on Win32 based platforms. We are now supporting both Tomcat 4.02 and JRun 4 for production implementations, as we are selling a product we find some clients like to have a commercial product for the application server. I've also had a bit of a play with Tomcat 4.1 and hold onto your hat as that baby flies along, can't wait until that is released (my company won't tocuh it until it's released). As far as the support argument goes, when it comes to the crunch who is it that ends up solving problems? From my experience my company doesn't even goto Macromedia, yet that is some of the opponent's first argument "yeah but who is going to support it?", so I'm the first to stick up my hand and say I will just to placate them, if they have someone to count on (ie. blame) they are happy. We have found a few clients that actually embrace open source and are already using various open source products in production, which is quite nice to see to say the least. :) JaseOne

It probably doesn't help you at all, but Opera is ported to atleast one handheld that being the Sharp Zaurus SL5500. I just can't wait to get my hands on one of those. Also I'm sure you could get it running on an Ipaq if you hack Linux onto it as per handhelds.org.
