I agree. I would like to see and "experemental" desktop, even if it's just for fun. As crazy as you can get while still being workable. It can be compleatlly experimentall and even have a HUGE learning curve. It would be fun to just have this strange looking thing for a desktop that does everything you could imagine and looks great while it's at it, even if you have to switch to kde to get any real work done, I would play with it and love it.

Why is it illegal to make copies of dvds? I've allways tried to understand this. I might have a problem taking my collection of Sopranos dvds to a friends house, especially if there are alot of people there. Things do happen, and since I bought them in the first place, why am I not allowed to make a "safty" copy? They have never really been able to explain this. Soon I will be buying the third season of The Sopranos wich will bring the whole set to approximatelly $240. Thats a lot of money to just "loose". Is it illegal to allow someone else to view dvds that I purchased? Even if they may never watch them or get interested any other way? I've found this to be particuarlly suited to anime. Most people usually wouldn't even think about giving anime a try untill they see one. And most of the good ones are still pretty hard to get ahold of, which means they are expensive imports>>>More money you just don't want to be luging around everywhere.

There are two ways to look at this. 1). It's censorship. If they are not informing the customer that they are renting/buying a cencored version, it is illigal. I don't believe in censorship by any means. 2). They purchased it, they should have the right to do what ever they want with it. If they want to take out all the sound and put thier own voices over the movie, they should have that right. Once again, it should be informed that this is "thier" cencored/edited version (depending on how you look at it. I agree with HUGE warning labels on them if they are allowing other people to watch these videos. There should be no doubt these are not the original films. I think they have the right to do this if they wish, but there is a catch. I believe they should also offer an unedited version right beside it. The edited version should have the HUGE sicker on it and the unedited version should be right next to it on the shelf. This is a right I think they have and if it is taken away, it's just more ground they have to take away many other rights from us. They are allready trying to take every right from us in the name of piracy/war on terrorism/artistic vision/blah blah blah. We should BUY the things we spend money on, not rent. We should be able to do anything we want with what we buy as long as it is clearlly understood what we did to it when other people are involved.

I would love it to be on linux because I could look forward to all kinds of improvements/hacks/alterations the community would bring. Linux is a very good way to keep a products life span stay up more than it might have to begin with. Some people will buy one because of what it does, others will buy it for what they might be able to do with it.

    - Linux is never going to have the market share that MS - I don't even know if anyone should say that. There was a point were people though no one would ever want a computer in thier house at all. People don't like to spend money and people like computers. When linux gets to the point where you can buy/download a game and run it on linux, you'll have a new huge fan base. Younger people are the ones that have the time and curious nature needed to help get linux into the desktop world. They start using it, get all thier friends to use it, and keep using it as they get older. It kind of just moves with them. Not very many people that use linux will ever go back, and it will be the same with them. Most younger people don't use linux becuase of the entertainment limitations.

Rock Manager uses Ogg Vorbis for ALL of it's music tracks. Whats cool about this is in the game you get to "mix" seperate tracks together to form songs together. The sound quality is great.

  8. Re:Contracts on Comcast May Raise Prices On "Internet Hogs" · · Score: 0

It's compleatlly legal if you signed a contract that said "prices and anything else they want can be changed at any time". If you refuse to pay, they can cancel you and force you to pay the remaining fees on your contract. Allways read what you sign. It's a bad idea to sign stuff when they have the power to change anything they want at any time. Sometimes it can't be avoided and it's fine. They price never goes up and everything is cool, but I have seen people get screwed very bad with this shit.

This is probably the smartest solution I have ever heard. Have the bandwidth wide open when there isn't much traffic for the people using it (ex. 3:30am) and start caping it off when there are tons of people soaking it up (ex. 5:00pm). It levels everything out and they would be able to keep more people happy longer untill they upgrade. And isn't happy costomers what matters? Not with most companies, they don't give a shit, thats why this strategy will never be used, even though it is the smartest method.

I've worked with a local ISP in tech support, and I can assure you, if you can find a decent local ISP you will be much happier. We don't have the ammount of people that aol or earthlink does, but we have more then our share. MOST local ISPs will actually offer tech support if you have a problem and when you want to cancel, you actually get to talk to someone failrlly quicklly. Where I was working, if you did not get in touch with someone immediatlly, you were prompted to leave a voice message with your name and phone number and we would return your call as soon as possible because we were currentlly experiencing an unnormally high ammount of calls. Yeh, I know, everyone has heard that crap before, but the customers quicklly learn after they first time they actually leave a message, they DO get a call back as soon as possible. Everyone that works at the ISP has the ability to cancel or sign up any account. We do ask for a reason, but they also accept NO REASON. Cancelations take about 2 mins with NO time on hold.
