OMG, do you even realize that most of the fine art was done by poor people that didnt make anything for living and most of the time were living pretty much frm charity ?
It is perfectly possible to create something and not charge any money, with computer software it is even easier, come on please delete every piece of free/open source software you have on all your devices and come back to keep this discussion.... Actually you will not be able, go figure
Man, that is the base of capitalism, what do you think it happens with the food from farm to the stores? Farmers in México barely make enough to eat, but stores sell their goods sometimes 20 times the prize they paid, you cannot justify that with tranportation and packing.
We dont need resellers, but law allows them to control the market so you think it is the right thing
Here in México we are supposed not to be so repressive and there are plans to promote a few laws against gov criticism. Most likely to be approbed in the next months if not a lot of protests are made against it.
And I dont think that is an age issue, Im 38 and I still learn as much as I can, but also I have the experience to know a lot of times what solution is better for diferent reasons. If I have to work 2 more hours because somebody took the wrong decision I will be mad.
The BIOS issue can look silly, but if I wont be able to fully automatize the installation of a hundred boxes those are bad news, I better go back to the provider than spending 2-5 minutes changing a BIOS option before installing on every one of them.
If you will be cheating with info about you poitentially covering a crime or faking one for someone else it's better that you dont have one of those, you're still a danger to society, but that was happwning before these glasses existed
I am a hardcore linux user, and have owned a couple of android phones (currently one) as well as an iphone, ipod touch and a couple of ipads, and I gotta accept that the ipad is one heck of a good tool. Let me elaborate.
The responsiveness of an ipad is way better than any android tablet I have used, for good or bad, the games available to the ipad are way more and better than the ones for android, and please dont missunderstand me, I dont mean quantity, Im talking more about the actual explotation of capabilities. The cost of an ipad in Mexico is as much as any good android tablet, and aome times andoird is more expensive (yeah, weird).
Of course I do jailbreak any iOS device, but I have to do mostly the same to the android ones, so no big win in that field
Maybe Im a fraking fanboi and dont want to see it, but I havent seen any tablet giving me all the thing the ipad does, games, responsiveness, battery life, apps, books, a big enough display....
The part that scares me a little bit is that idea that they can convert the linux community into a similar one to the apple or windows one, I have seen a few apps that are free on android and commercial on iOS, it does has some sense, since iOS requieres a payed license to push apps into their store, but still is kind of weird that we have to pay for the same free app in the other app store.
Also, since I do not develope for living, it's dificult for me to understand a recent tendence from some developers pushing for commercialization, even of linux apps, I understand that people need to get something to eat every once in a while, but I have seen at least one developer to state that "if you do not contribute to Linux you should not have the right to use it", that is scary, and is happening more and more
You missed a couple of cache config flags, most likely.
I have used mutt with an accoun getting a few hundreds of emails on inbox daily after filtering, and at most it took some 20 second and start time, most times it was something like 8 seconds, so I simply didn't closed mutt unless I was not planing to use it soon (minutes)
I've been working as sysadmin for some 7 years now, almost every company using Linux pays redhat licences (support or whatever) and I have never seen someone actually calling redhat for support...
I happyly use debian in all my computers but I people tends to be afraid of
I'm a sysadmin, so I see log statistics for a good set of people, and I dont ague about the current popularity of facebook, but by no means it is the only mean of communication for tge masses, there are a few other services being used for years and I bet they will be in the future.
People have problems seeing reality, but more pople have problems remembering even the near past history
I get it sort of, but since I and a lot of people I know still use mail, IM, forums, blogs (this one gotta be the one tha lost most popularity) and a few other social portals, I just cant see facebook taking over in the near future.
I even use wathsapp instead of facebook for "SMS"... Just dont see facebook as the solution for all needs, not even most of them
so, email does not allow that ? of web forums, blogs.... if it is so important, in 2 years everybody will be "hosting" it's own communication system on the cloud (or whatever comes)
I believe you give way too much importance to something that does not actually deservs it, not that I don't think facebooks has any usability, just that what it provides can be provided by a lot of other means, some of them were living before facebook and will be living after facebooks goes away.
As much as I like the utopia, facebook is by no means my first xommunication option, I was using gtalk, IRC and even skype way before facebook existed
I have been in contact with old "friends" thanks to facebook in the last two years, but I dont think I won a lot by that, I was able to make it just OK the last 15 years I didn't knew anything about all of them anyway
I used OWA for almost two years in my last job in linux with chrome, never had an issue with the lack of features, most likely owa works even better without all other crap^Wfeatures it has on IE.
But I use mutt as my primary email client, so maybe Im wrong and possibly insane
And what it is so important about a skype call that needs that kind of security? I've been chatting on IRC for almos 2 decades and ip info has never been an issue
The problem with US and a few more countries is general population firmly believes in what is being told on advertising campaings, and they feel the need to enforce what they think is valuable to the whole world.
Pretty much, most people would like to hear recreational music, or see some tv show or movie every once in a while, but current cost is kind of ridiculous, how come most things have 10-15% of profit over its price but music and movies have several hundred? It is not only ilogical, it drives economy to the current issues it is having. All of it sponsored by nice laws done by the politicians that should be protecting general populationm since corporations dont even pay most of the taxes being paid, right?
Probably the point was that both things are bad, and people ignores that bit of info about it, which in turns ends up making a substantial amount of damage
And neglecting atomic level interactions invalidates the method for most phamaceutic studies.

And we can see that from the underpopulation of this planet.... All those 80% or more religious people are reproducing so slowly....

If you want to spend hundreds of millions USD to publicize Linux be my guest, but please dont turn linux into windows or mac

Take a look at mutt, you will love it

Apple is way too user friendly, i prefer my unusable virus free linux box
I hope you are not rich with that kind of attitude !! :)
