I am the sysadmin kind of power user, my desktop icons are useless since anything I would want is available much faster from CLI or with shortcuts and autocompletion (with tab), so, for non power users I can understand relying on dektop icons to overcome memory limitations, but that's about it, as soon as yor desktop env. keeps you off from getting more efficient it is time to search for a new one.
Man, I am a linux guy for more than a decade and I cannot find a damn thing in gnome! They did a great job making dificult to do the most basic tasks, as changing desktops or finding a particular opened terminal between desktops
This method will slowdown stupid attacks, those that would failbecause of password policies, etc. It is trivial to detect ssh service over any port, so dont foolyourself thinking that you are safer being uncnfortable, you will be hacked in no time if a real cracker is interested in your info.
I started to work late, at 30, Im about to be 38 and starting my 5 job using that very same technique, but I dont plan to keep going like that much longer.
And my point stands, I do my best to keep being competitive, but a lot of people does not have the education or the opportunities, and they risk a lot by refusing to do after hours and stuff.
As fool as it sounds, unemployment rates are high enough that a lot of us have to worry about being laid off just to check if our "lack of commitment" can be improved by getting a new "half the paycheck" guy into the team.
Also, I work for the largest university in Mexico, it is public, and does not actually contemplate extra hours, so there is no way I can ask them for it, and still there are (few) cases when there is no way to avoid working a little offtime, so I would have to trade getting my time a value against not actually working in one of the best places I could work in my country
On the good side, I have a somewhat flexible work time, I can say I will be offsite a couple of days in a course Im interested on without much trouble.
I studied chemistry, what worked for me was to actually concentrate on what was being told by teachers, if I needed to recap from notes, I would copy the ones my girlfriend or any other classmate took and be done.
I have always thought that taking notes keeps you from actually learning while the best opportunity is happening, the actual class.
Even isng debian full time, in my past job (4months ago) I had to install a grease monkey script that broke an ITS system we use there somewhere around FF 4 IIRC.
I stoped using FF a couple of years ago, even when chrome is not what I would expect, it is way much better... Sad
Music and poetry are not plain data, so diversity plays an important role, and even taking into account all variations outside pure notes, there is no doubt that music is getting more repetitive by the... Decade?, still, people likes it so it must not be a great tragedy
You are mostly right, except for the fact that apple is being using unfair rules to affect amazon and in the mean time is also affecting the author of the book, that is exactly as bad as a religious store selling debbie does dallas, not the opposite
There are quite a few reasons for it, specially if you handle more than a few boxes, you dont want to keep a big stock of idle servers just to avoid fixing simple failures or you wont wait 1 week for a new broughtserver to arrive while your mailserver is down
I rather invest in steel than in medics and drugs for cancer and weird kinds of poisoning... Just commenting... Any corporation will prefer the later since it wont be their money being invested on medics and drugs
I dont know much about the current actual mix used for fracking, but they used to use some very harmless polysacharides that couldnt hurt much our healt besides being very good food for bacteria and fungus. I can see the common sense of oil companies migrating from that to anything toxic in a heartbeat just to squeeze one or two more percent points on "productivity" though...
So, being drunk at 4 PM daily is called hard work when you are president?

Also you can work for a wage that covers any extra work you would normally do, that way you are always being overpaid :)
