  1. Re:Comparison not fair on Is Linux or Windows Easier To Install? · · Score: 1

    Quoth the moron:
Either you do not know what you are talking about, or you are trying to spread fud. /Quoth

I recently had to do an install of 2k, and I was disappointed by the lack of input. I kind of like to choose what goes into my system. Win9x allowed me to choose items, like which games, accessibility options, etc. Win2k just asks for the timezone.

I walked away to get a coffee, and came back to find myself at the beginning of the install! I at first thought that it was a dud, and sat through the process again, and then watched. It finished, and reboooted from the CD a third time. I took the CD out and manually rebooted to get past that issue.

Then, I swapped the drive from hda to hdc. I replaced my Debian as hda. And now I only access Win2k through WINE, and only because I had to install M$Office for study. (Oh how I despise access...)

Having no user input is great, if you are ghosting a PC or want 300 identical systems. As a single user, I like choice. I own a 3.2GB hdd, and had to borrow another 2GB for the M$ install. 1.6Gigs later, there's not much space on that sucker. My primary drive runs fine, with OpenOffice and lots of other apps, and I use the same amount of space, including storage of basic info.

  2. Real footballers don't wear padding on Artificial Intelligence to Predict Sports Injuries · · Score: 1

Why is it that all these big, strong men need so much padding? And why do they have to keep stopping every three seconds?

When Australian rugby players go to America for "football", they have a great time, and usually win. When the Yanks come over here, they usually take one look at how the game should be played, and say "No way in hell am I going out there without any padding". And then there's the whining about how the game goes on for the entire session, without any breaks. Except for half time.

But even rugby and AFL get called "football", so I suppose that the soccer freaks will still jump on me for that :-)

Personally, I gotta wonder about a group of guys who like to watch another group of guys grapple and feel eachother up, and go on about how fit these athletes are, and have their favourites. And yet they proclaim to be straight? Admit it. If you like watching guys..... :-p

  3. The point? on Transmeta Unveils 256-bit Microprocessor Plans · · Score: 1

Simple. A larger number means a better chip.

Pure marketing. Nothing more. It'll be how long before it's available? And how long again until there's apps written for it? These are the questions that aren't being asked by the discerning media who are reporting it.

  4. Imagine this... on More on Intel v. Hamidi · · Score: 1

While you are out one day (or sleeping, or too busy on the computer), somone you know breaks into your home. This person is someone you used to know, but something caused you to not trust them anymore.

They didn't do any damage, or steal anything. Instead, they made themselves a coffee and watched some TV. They left the TV on, used the cup you'd saved for them, and didn't clean up the coffee spills or wash the cup. They also left a note telling you what a loser you are.

At first, you just decide to let it slide, not wanting to go to any trouble. The incedents continue. You try changing the locks, throwing out the coffee cup, unplugging the TV. Nothing helps. Are you just going to sit back and let it go?

This is harrassment. An individual harrassing a company. There may not be "damages" as such, but there is the nuisance factor, which would put staff on edge. Or at least on gossip-patrol. Less work gets done, because of one sigle moron who was sacked, probably for similar attitude problems.

Personally, I'm with Intel on this one. And the points about SPAMmers makes it a doubly good deal for the rest of us to watch for.
