    position and deploy at right time, the
    cost and specification for material, testing
    of protoypes, and if memory serves me an analogy

    protective vest made of Kylar which can be penetrated by teflon coated bullet !!

    We have no idea what the mass, density, velocity,
    surface morphology, temperature, roatation or
    any other parameters for the IDEAL meteorite.

    This Canadian gent needs to stand erect and

    I seriously doublt if Seagate, Matsushita and

    needed for tomorrows storage needs.

    If Seagate was publicly traded their CEO

    Seagate made this announcement, because they
    want to go public with IPO on this OLD MATURE
    magnetic technology that has other disk drive
    competion and margins so thin that 1% you make
    money or lose major.

    The thought of disk flying apart is about as
    valid as the aluminum disk spinning at 10,000 rpm

    I can tell you specific density of aluminum along with hardest of metal will do serious damage even if the pseudo enclosure called a casting is used.

    As high velocity rotations occurs in any disk
    storage peripheral there is always the risk of
    disk shattering, hand grenades in you office.

    The only way of getting the data transfer bandwidth without endangering your friends and
    family is for a new storage technology to be
    developed like 3D Volume Holographic Optical Storage which

    the bandwidth then harddrives while having 1/10
    the rotational speeds and power usage.
