I am a Computer and Informantion Technology(CIT) student at Indiana University/Purdue University at Indianapolis and we have the same deal... Office XP & VS.NET 2003 for $35, and WinXP Pro for $10. Office XP & VS.NET can also be downloaded from the school's software site free of charge(If you have a big enough pipe to handle it). Unfortunately, our CIT dept. has gone to hell with the inundation of M$ software, it seems that almost nothing is taught about IT outside the windows world.(groans...)

If anyone actually has the the total absence of gray matter necessary to go through with this, boy have I got a deal for you! I just aquired some beachfront property on mars that begs consideration...

Too late! I just started to learn java about 5 months ago in school; whatever chance they had to make that language "easy"(a subjective matter of course) went out the window long ago. Nonetheless I am still learning and Java remains one of my favorite languages to date.
I have known that for quite awhile on the university network, there are people sharing all kinds of $h!t: Homework (even read a guys term paper), pr0n, warez, pictures...My desktop wallpaper was taken from the university's digital imaging center's hard drive as well. If you really want to be a whore about this, there is a software package called ShareScan that works really well...
I'm almost certain that the wackos that claim that the moon landing was a hoax see this as no suprise; why commemorate something that (according to them) never happened? Unfortuately, the real reason that it was forgotten was that with so much going on here at home (holidays/family/state of the world in general) space in general is low on my (and many others) priority list.
I'm really tired of hearing people bitch and moan about how nVidia's drivers aren't open source. 99% of the time I am all for hardware and software developers making source code available to the masses, but in this case, let's take some of the competition as an example. ATI just recently made good on their Linux driver support, if you call the same stuff that we have been using from the DRI project as being contributed by ATI. As for the rest, how are they? SiS, at least according to this source has no intention of putting forth genuine effort to help the non-M$-OS community. Matrox appears to be the only exception, but then again I don't have a matrox card so I don't know about the performance of their drivers. I have had no problems with the performance of the nVidia drivers regardless of the nature of their software licensing. Quit yer bitchin' and just be happy that the damn thing works in Linux (and BSD too!).
Oh wait...let us not forget his absolutely breathtaking performance as (the voice of) F.B.I. Agent Flemming in "Beavis and Butt-head Do America", as well as hosting the cheezeball tv show "Unsolved Mysteries".
With so many people, universities, and companies already going to 802.11b, would it really be wise to "open up" the market completely this soon? WEP is a joke at best; of the few other systems I have ran into in these parts, The university's wireless (authenticated via VPN) seems to be the most secure. We really can't expect most sysadmins to set up a VPN, let alone the home users; I really think that this idea, albeit a good one, needs to wait for better security that's easier to implement for the average user.
Look at how most people drive; would you really like to deal with that at any kind of altitude? Not me buddy! I'll continue using normal roads until they actually give real driving(or flying) examinations before putting some kid behind the wheel of a flying car.
Unfortunately space.com's article doesn't say much about the actual satellite, a few more details here:

Thank you moZer...I tried get it from ftp.redhat.com, these guys had it first!

I have to agree with you there, Woman...in the post - win95/AOL world, if you use anything that doesn't require point 'n click (or anything that isn't easily understood) you are "hacking the network"; little do they know that our order management system @ work runs off of WinNT-based telnet (hey, I didn't make that choice)... can I help it that I learned to use DOS when I was 13, instead of trying out for the basketball team? Also, what do we want their financial info for anyways? Last I checked, the room service in county lockup wasn't getting any better than the last time I was there. LS
First off, I have to say "AMEN" to PingXao's post; Most of the people in this country are fucking stupid, at least when it comes to politics. In our Instant-gratification-not-enough-time-to-scratch-y our-ass-and-if-you-had-time-you-would-buy-a-gadget -to-do-it-for-you" Society, nobody reads anymore...and on top of it, most of the young people are influenced into thinking that their vote "doesn't count" or that voting makes you "old" - rather frustrating IMO. And although I believe that Pop Culture and Television is to blame, I really think that this statement sums it up (this is actually off a hidden track of the metal band Corrosion of Conformity's album Blind): "Politics is the control of wealth and power...We are being conditioned to condemn politics as petty and boring, allowing those in power to stay in power...You're either part of the problem, or part of the solution; Which side are you on?" Thank you for your thoughts and time. LS
Yes, It works in Linux; there is a console based program as well as a QT-Based GUI (looks pretty w/ KDE3 and Acqua theme). I'll Warn ya, getting it to compile is a bit of a trick; It requires libxml2, where Red Hat 7.3 has and requires libxml (1).

I unfortunately missed out on signing up for this last year; I will not make the same mistake twice!
