One of those magnetic anti-theft devices was built into my dad's wallet, and never was disabled. As a result, he would beep in *every* store he entered or exited. We thought it was his PalmPilot...

On a more interesting note, would it be possible to build a personal RF "jammer" that emits strong noise on the frequincies used by these devices? That could at least keep people from tracking the tags in your clothing..

In 50 years we'll find out these things cause cancer. We'll see who's laughing then. :-P

  7. Re:It is possible... on Using Minesweeper to Solve NP · · Score: 1

With minesweeper, you have to have a starting point, so some amount of random clicking is needed to get something to work with. Once you get a few squares uncovered, though, all that is needed to win is patience. The reason many people don't do well is because they rush through and "guess", while more accomplished players recognize that each move must be painstakingly considered.

Just a second... maybe that's the point! Any encryption can be broken with sufficient random clicking. :-)

    To be more specific...

We pay them $19.99 a month. This gets us:

    200 MB space.
    6 GB transfer monthly.
    Unlimited POP boxes.
You can create/delete FTP accounts, etc.

Like the guy said, I've had nothing but good experiance with their tech support. They host off of Redhat of NT, whatever you like. Of course, you get full CGI, etc.

    Unfortunately, it's not dedicated hosting.

If you refer someone to the service, they credit you a month for free. This could be a good way for your group to cut costs. If you really wanna make my day, refer simer.net.

  15. What? on Indianapolis Bans Violent Video Games · · Score: 2

Am I missing something? How do you equate "You must have your parent's permision" with a violation of free speech?

Should we allow our children to view some of the "darker" pornography as well? After all, not letting them see it violates the producer's rights to free speech, right?

Gee, shame on us for allowing parents to raise thier kids.

Don't get me wrong - I think the violence in games issue is blown way out of proportion. I just think that the parents should make the decision, not their immature kids, or the public. In a perfect world, all parents would be making sure their kids lived up to their own standards. This seems to only force parents to step up to the plate.

Obviously, this is far from ideal for the vast majority of colleges. But if you're not that large, it might work better than it would seem at first glance. I wish you well.
