  5. Slapp on Libel Laws Used To Curb Web Protests · · Score: 2

Most libel and defamation suits are just slapp suits. Business robber barons have used them to silence critics since the printing press, and libel laws were invented. Patently bogus claims of libel and defamation usually work, as the little guy doesn't have the resources to hire a lawyer, and defend himself in court. It's a terrible shame, and I wish could be done to stop slapp suits.

Perhps you mean the second amendment. "A well regulated militia being a necessity in a free society, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be abridged." If the meaning ofd this were not so murky, that alone would be something. Does "Well regulated Militia" mean the army, the national guard? or everyone able bodied? and does "the people" mean all the people, or just the ones in the militia? Do you propose that if we passed a new law, that criminals who are by definition, people who break the law, will respect it? That would be a magic law. Too bad there's no such thing.

  21. Not Possible on An Unbiased Analysis of Gun Crime vs. Gun Control? · · Score: 4, Interesting

The unbiased analysis you seek is just not humanly possible. Everyone has an opinion on the right to bear arms vs. gun control debate, and anyone willo become emotional defending his or her position. Here are some of my thoughts. Outlawing guns won't disarm criminals. They are criminals, and won't respect new laws any more than the ones we have now. Outlawing guns will only raise their price on the black market. Anything demanded will be supplied. That is basic economics. Even if we could create a state where only the army is armed, do we really want to?

  22. Re:What can be done about this? on Pay to Play the U.S. Way · · Score: 3, Insightful

Yes, some Democrats are dancing to the tune that doners play, too, but Republicans outspent Democrats by 200 milion in November, 200 million big business donated to them, and not the dems. The few who actually voted did what TV and talk radio told them. Republicans are the party of big business and big greed to a much greater degree than Democrats, but they all get away with it because people don't vote. Campaign finance reform and free speech are unrelated. If there are no limits to donations, because donations are "speech," then the rich, and corporations can "say" infinitely more than I can. So much for all being equal under the law. So much for one person, one vote. Or are some animals more equal than others?

By the way, do you let talk radio spoon feed your political views to you. Your rant sounds like Rush Limbaugh, or possibly convicted felon, G. Gordon Liddy.

  23. What can be done about this? on Pay to Play the U.S. Way · · Score: 4, Insightful

Not a damn thing, since so few of us even vote. The few who bothered to vote in november elected the buddies of legalized bribery by a landslide. Mitch McConell,(R, KY) legalized bribery's best friend in Washington won by a nearly 70 to 30 margin. We have an oligarchy, not a democracy, because people stay home.
