The problem with these broadband companies is the upload. How useful is 19Mbps really when most sites can't even support it? It sounds great on paper but I would really rather have more upload. 384K that Comcast offers in Denver is a joke.

Don't take this the wrong way but you are going to be lumped in with the zealots and you should be! You state at the beginning that you voted "republican" in 2000/4. That's where I disagree. You voted for George W. Bush in 2000/4, not republican. Bush is about as far from republican as you could be all the while pretending to be a good conservative christian good boy. By voting for him you put yourself in with all the people you claim to disagree with. Your vote is your decision to be counted in with a certain group and you chose the Bush party. Now, I am thrilled to know that you are a normal, intelligent conservative - we need people like you to turn this situation around before it gets worse. I'm not saying you have to vote democrat, green, libertarian, etc, but please stop supporting these people that claim to be conservative that are religious warmongering freaks! Thank you

I was out on Freebsd.org last night looking at documentation and noticed that 6.1 was listed as the current release. I grabbed it and installed right away (probably not the best idea) but it works great so far. Very stable and all my hardware is detected and working perfectly.

If you haven't tried it, get an old box and give it a shot. More experience with Unix never hurt anyone!

  7. BS on Oracle to Layoff 2000 Jobs · · Score: 5, Informative

Anyone who tries to justify what Larry did is a moron. I was laid off yesterday from Denver and everyone can tell you it was not about duplicate positions. My manager told me that they never even contacted him to ask his opinion on who to let go. It was all chosen by some executives in California who just wanted to reduce numbers.

They even had the balls to tell us they might call us if they realized it was a mistake and wanted you back. Does that sound like the "ethical" way to do things for a company?

I know this may be a stupid comment - but who cares? The religious folks are never going to be convinced that what they believe is wrong, even if there was immense proof (which will never happen). Religion has the position of being unprovable either way - science, on the other hand can be. The science folks are going to keep trying to explain how life and the universe got to where it is now. Sometimes they will get it right and sometimes not. We, as humans, have to keep trying to learn and improve ourselves - science isn't trying to disprove religion, but better understand the universe. Are we supposed to sit back and credit anything we don't understand to religion? If people never dug deeper than we would not have the technology we have now - religion needs to be left in its place of faith and science in its place of investigation. I don't consider them to be in the same playing field.

Riker should have moved on to his own command the first ST:TNG movie that was out. We already "know" the characters after 7 years of TV - let's see some good stories to go along with them!
