A Vulcan listening to emo? I thought he'd be more into straight-edge hardcore.

  2. Standard International unit hey? on The Golden Age of Cup Manufacturing · · Score: 1

That's very nice. Now I have some idea what the hell this story is about. So that big bastard is 80oz cup they were talking about is slightly bigger than the 2 litre coke bottle that lasted me all week in year 10 camp hey? I'm sure that'll do a good job of cleaning the grease and oil of my car engine (coke is famous for this in Australia).

  4. Screw Users - What about the Engineers??? on Is There Such a Thing as "Too User Friendly"? · · Score: 1

I have to say I'm sick of hearing about how the users are so important, and every bloody thing has to be easy for the users. What about the engineers?? Surely the vast majority of you have used a device at one time or another and gotten really pissed off by the way you can't do what you want to do, instead you have to do what the device wants you to do (I remember when I first used Windows I got this horribly psychotic feeling, it happens when things tell me what to do). In the age of "user friendliness" too many people forgetting the users (let's face it, engineers are users too) who want to do more than just the average tell-me-what-to-do user!

Yeah it was because folders are more like what you see in a filing cabinet. Just great for people who don't know how to use their computer (user friendliness), because they see something familiar and all of a sudden think they DO know how to use their computer. This illusion soon wears off when they render their computer inoperable.

  6. Already Happening In Australia on Will Cable Unplug the File Swappers? · · Score: 1

Most of you probably know that download limits are finally being placed on cable internet in Australia. What you probably don't know is that the ONLY internet backbone in Australia (AARNET) is owned by one Telstra corporation, who until a few years ago were a department of the Australian government and basically own all telecommunications equipment in Australia. The Australian government currently owns 51% of Telstram and have been quote on various occassions as trying to get the highest share price out of Telstra before they sell it. Now it's no surprise that every ISP in Australia has to go through Telstra for their internet access. There's no other choice. And Telstra DO make billions of dollars a year profit, so it's clear to me that the reason other ISPs in Australia (broadband or otherwise) are forced to impose bandwidth limitations is due to the costs being imposed on them by Telstra, so all the extra money we pay for internet access doesn't go to our ISPs, but instead to Telstra. Now I won't pretend I'm highly knowledgable about the situation in the USA, but I'll bet there are but a few backbones in the USA, and they probably aren't competing for customers as they have all their customers by the balls. Say hello to bandwidth usage restrictions!
