  1. Re:Explanation of Zion - spoiler on Review: Matrix: Reloaded · · Score: 1

The whole Matrix-Within-Matrix theory sounds good, but remember all the discussion about the OLD Matrix, bodyguards from the OLD Matrix...guess what Zion is? an OLD Matrix. The human race is the debugger for the NEW Matrix. They 'escape' to an OLD Matrix code, somewhere in the NEW code, and fugg everything up, now the Machines can find the fugged up code, and destroy it. The ruling council might be programs to encourage the humans to gather and build, so the bad code is all in one place to clean up.

Neat and tidy little box. Uses all the resources available to accomplish the end goal. Binary, my dear Watson.

Although that theory would indicate that the Matrix could not have evolved from a MS product, as they would never enable a product to actually improve itself from within, but it would explain the huge amounts of extraneous code.

    Satisfied?

    Go for ViewSonic

They are a reputable company. This means that they value their reputation, it's how they sell monitors for 50% more than the competition, and stay in business.

They care about the consumer and the product is in use at most graphic design firms I've seen. Quality is second to none, and if you aren't happy, they aren't happy. I have a 'budget' model at home, which has been in use for four years, and I've never had a single problem, even with it being on for days at a time, and on almost every day for those three years.

The best advice is the same as with buying RAM, find the best monitor you can afford, and borrow a little to buy the next model up. With the new integration of TV and Internet, buy something really good and don't bother with a new TV.

  3. Great Printers on Are Printers What They Used To Be? · · Score: 1

Try any HP LJ 4 or 5 series

We use them at work, and do 300 to 500 sheets a day, while replacing the toner twice a year. Lots of white space, but the overall durability is unbeatable. I have an HP LJ 4 and 5 at home, no problems in several years.

For colour printing go to Epson, I have a c80, replace one colour at a time, magnificent prints, durable, and reasonable cartrige prices!. Epson colour matching is awesome, and I get better prints on plain paper than some photo printers. Paid $300, Mac & PC compatible, USB out the box.

The moral is...You get what you pay for. $99 Lexmark, garbage. $300 Epson, great. Used HP Laserjet, look around, $100.

Can you mix it up in the verbal arena? Show me what you got. Make it worth my while intellectually. Challenge my skills on the mic. I ran my mouth for damn near an hour on the XBL MechASSult server. I don't care about the game, I got off crazy snaps on all the infidels. GOOD NIGHT NOW. SkinnyScut + Joe Momma Get It?

Yeah, Peppercoin may mork in theory, but...

We all know how insurance works, right?

Your rates are based on odds that you will get into an accident. Except your rates climb whenever the underwriter has to pay more taxes or more claims, or higher administration costs.

Peppercoin would work, in theory, if it was fully automated (no admin fees) but you need to pay for data warehousing, processing, etc...

Credit card co's don't just pile up money, it does actually cost something to do the work. /.ers have a tendency to think in utopian terms, like that people who take money are evil. No, that's how come you all have fancy computers and broadband internet (g'head and deny it)

As for the other idea, about waiting for the sum to be meaningful, a lot of businesses actually need the money today, to pay rent or the bills or godsaveus the actual merch. Not so a customer can buy what he wants when he wants. The interest alone for some businesses on overdue accounts can be a significant portion of their annual costs. If they pay, say 5/10 net/20, the interest accrues from day 20 on. If your micropayments don't go through before day 20, merchant loses cash.

  6. Re:IP Goes too far on The Case Against Intellectual Property · · Score: 1

Whatever happened to the idea of 'a good name'?

Well, I'll tell you. Every company in the world with just a 'Good Name' is out of business. Bankrupt or bought out for their IP.

It's a little thing called 'Competitive Advantage'. We marketers love this.

A company has to do one thing better than all it's competitors. When you find this thing, you put your mark on it.

If you have not the resources to exploit your IP, you will lose it. This whole discussion should be about if IP can be bought and sold. Should not the original inventor be allowed to reap the rewards of his innovation? Or can anyone with more resources be allowed to reverse engineer or simply buy the IP?

Maybe IP should have to be retained by a person, not an organization. Would this make more sense?

Don't be ridiculous, we have all of the good stuff from the movies.

If we had flying cars, they would surely be banned in the wake of the WTC stuff, and talking computers would get real annoying, real fast.

"WARNING! Your system has become unstable! Danger Will Robinson! kernel32.exe has caused a FATAL ERROR!". Macintosh type computers would just whistle some stupid pop song incessantly until you shoot your eyes out with a laser pointer.

In the end, we are ruled by the almighty dollar, and no one really bought into the Sony dog, why would they make more? Especially because we all know that robots ALWAYS turn on their masters. Just a word of warning.

Low humidity and low temp, low light too, just to be safe. I guess my DVDs will go next to the Cuban's in the humidor.

Next up: Sony releases E-Humidor with SACD compatibility, and other equally nonsensical additional features.

I have some LP's older than my parents. They still work, even after submersion in raw sewage (basement flood) and subsequent bath to restore them to working condition.
