Fuel flow curves and mix balencing is fairly complicated stuff. Most of the chips you see just alter the full throttle intermix curves. and that is about all you can do for power with injection control, and that only gets you a small gain. The stock computers at non WOT (wide open throttle) are designed to keep the engine at the most effective mix, by very quickly qhanging the mix from lean to rich. The best way to get more fuel into the engine is to get more air to the engine. You need more air to make more fuel burn effectivly, simply increase the fuel, you wont have the air to reap the rewards. Get more air to the engine, and the air sensor will compensate by injecting more fuel to the chambers. This is the basis behind forced induction.
Now, at WOT, you want lotsa fuel, since there is the max amout of air getting to the motor. Engineers know this so when your gas pedal hits the floor, the computer quits computing the best mix. It reverts to pre-programed mix curves from the factory., now if your motor is getting more air than it was originally designed to get, you need new WOT mix curves. this is what your aftermarket chip does. Now, you could program these curves yourself, but you better KNOW your shit. Get this fuel mix wrong, and manage your engine poorly, or make a typo, and you'll be debuging by rebuilding your cylinder head, or worse, replacing pistons and rods.

right but to steal you card number, and copy it all I need to do now is have a reader in my front right pocket, a PPC running SNIP (spell that backward you'll get what it is for!) and walk around bumping my front pocket into purses and back-pockets containing wallets. you'll just think I'm some odd horny freak humping people in the street at random, when you're card suddenly shoots through the roof and your credit report is shot. I doubt the "horny old man" would be the first you think of.
Originaly game making is wonderful, but from a business angle it is hard to push to the bean counters. Before any type of R&D project a business is going to estimate the future money to be made and then in corporate the business risk. For new developpments, this is very high, and pushed your value down to nothing, so why bother.
If you look around and see the market has room for another game where you tote hundreads of guns and have balls like churchbells and blow away all the pinko scum, you know it will make money, just add a cute new feature, like bullet time, or extra blood splatting on the walls and you sell your game. Same as putting "New and Improved" on a box of Tide.
Until the consumer quits opening their wallet for the same old thing you wont get much innovation. the only reason we can say "they innovated in the old days!" is because there were no video games to compare from. Same as old cinema. iturn of the century and into the 30's movies were innovative. today, they are variations on a theme.
Make innovation profitable, and you will have innovative games.
we could also get into the limitations of UI devices and innovate those and then games could go nice directions control wise. I mean have you played Enter the Matrix for the PC yet? Your left hand gets one hellacious workout with all the different control combinations.
Hi I'm from the law firm of Rakin & Ponzer. We would like to extend our name to anyone interested in attempting this. The fireworks will be fun, as well as rosting marshmellows over the flames from your Microsoft Funded funeral pyre.
Kill them in large numbers yes they can and then enslave them with the threat of killing them in large numbers. Killing one by one with small arms is not enslavement either. Same as a Cruise missle. Just takes longer. The threat is the same.
Threat A. I'll blow you up! Do as I say! Threat B. I'll shoot you! Do as I say!
Same threat, different implemntation. Besides it is far easier to enslave with the threat of large scale weapons. You only have to ensure the loyalty of those trained to use them. To enslave with small arms, you have to ensure the loyalty of every foot soldier with a gun. Its the threat that enslaves. Not the weapon.
maybe. but tanks and jets and the treat of it works well. You can ask the Iraqis. Owning a machine gun will not protect you from gov't tyranny. If they want you, you will be dead, and they will take your guns. Belive me, I am very pro second amendment. Just not to protect myself from government tyranny. To protect me and my familiy from people who want to do violence against me and my faimily yes, but I am well aware that if the Gov't wanted to take all I have they would have little trouble. My owning a gun would barely slow them down. Wake the hell up.
However, if you operate as a sole propriortship, you dont need the second checking account. The money made is simply your income. The unfortunate thing is though, if your business harms someone, and they sue you, they can take your personal assets, not just busniess assets.
nothing like having tons of large (comparably with other management messages) broadcast packets splattered all over the network, just to save the admin from having to keep up with a spreadsheet of IP's and which box goes with what.
Stay a number huh...ok...allow me to retort.
With a background of database design, this is simple to show how difficult that is.
SELECT from possible-terrorists
WHERE baught-boxcutter = TRUE and
baught-plane-ticket = true
boom. one VERY VERY simple statement and your zebra herd just got REALLY small (comparatively to a national database) in a few processor cycles. Flying in the future? Got a utility knife in your house? congrats, you must be a terrorist! Staying a number is great and all, but data on you can paint several pictures. I could be a paintball player who likes computers and tinkering with his car, OR I could be a paramilitary-training, street-racing evil-hacker. It all up to interperation, and given the current level of brains in most gov't beauracracies, I dont like leaving it up to them.
The big problem is the disjoint in the course work in some universities. At mine, the MIS programming was fairly light weight (VB, followed by C++, then harder core C++. now its all Java) and the analysis and design class for me was a damn joke. then you go from this striaght into projects and Systems engineering coursework that is lightyears ahead of where the university gets you before thses classes. Luckily for me I found "playing catch-up" over the summer to be very interesting, and read everything I could about design in general, and Oracle and powerbuilder (the platforms for the projects and engineering courses). I can see that they want you to learn to think about system design and implementation, or how to think like a programmer, but the total lack of technical training does put most grads far behind the curve. Most schools have the IS degrees as business degrees. While finance is important and all, IS majors would be better suited to doing more math, and taking more technical courses along with the theory. Unfortunatly the crummy cirriculum has made many employers look at IS (or even CS from some schools) as non-qualified for anything but a basic tech position.
Parents have to, gee I don't know...PARENT their own spawn???
This country spends too much time passing legislation to let parents off the hook. Now, I dont belive that an 8 year old should be able to just walk into EB and walk out with a fresh new copy of Soldier of Fortune II, but I belive that is because his/her mother/father was with him/her and said no, not becasue the pimply kid at the desk said the gov't said no.
If parents are parents, games cause no harm. Neither do movies or music. I started on violent games (on PC's) with Wolfenstien (pirated no less. I'm just scum) when I was 10! Listening to heavy metal at 8. Black Metal at 15. I cant remember not chasing my buddine around the house with toy machine guns screaming "BLAMBLAMABLAM you're dead butt-face!" (ever try to find good toy m16 lately? Rack another one up to PC-ness) According to the evidence used against video game (or insert favorite media here) industry, I should be a rabid murderer, skinning small animals just to hear them scream, and get a chubby watching faces of death. Guess what, aside from the occasional NERF gun attack, I'm a pretty stable guy. Know why? My parents tought me better than being a rabid asshole.
Just because a prefab computer is cheap dosent give the german version of the RIAA to call every buyer a theif. Baseball Bats are cheap, would you feel warm and fuzzy about being assumed that you are going to beat the piss out old ladies with it so you pay an obligitory batterered old lady VAT on it? Its like being given a speeding ticket when you purchase a car, instead of when you speed.

yes dumbass. You can have your ak-47. The navy has a cruise missle...pretty one-sided fight. Fight the power numbnuts.

Yes but only us Americans would build it, then break it, and then pee on it!!!
Why dont you ask the Kuwaities and The US military about the current success of the next gen Patriot? Get you facts straight before bashing things.
Well after it gets military use, it will eventually go mainstream. Will bulky ass VR goggles become the newest peice of geek swag?
well with an exposure time of 6 seconds, that "purple bolt" could be anything that flew across the view of the lens.

let someone at the DOJ read this and FUCKING DO SOMETHING.

Dammit Jim, I'm a geek not a English Professor!
;-)
I'm glad he's doing what feels right to him but, given the choice, I rather know the inside of the beast then be at its mercy.
Does this mean we can load up a nifty machine full of B-movie stars and shoot them into the dirt on Mars too?
