You don't see my point. I'm saying that if it's morally questionable and you shouldn't do it, you just shouldn't do it regardless of the legal penalty. I suppose what is morally questionable is up for debate, but unwanted trespass into another's intellectual property certainly counts. In real life when you see a lot that says no trespassing, it's illegal to go into that lot regardless of what you plan to do in it, even if you just want to walk across it to get to a place opposite of where you are in regards to the lot. So if you don't tresspass, you have no reason to worry about the penalty for trespassing. That's all I'm saying. The purpose of a law is(ideally) not to punish unlawful activity, but to prevent unlawful activity. Computer geeks need to find some other hobby than sitting at the computer challenging encryption keys. How about outdoors contact sports, or reading that book you've always wanted to read?

I read somewhere that Bush has an IQ of 77. On television the other day there was a debate over whether retards should get the death penalty or not - it was brought up that in some states the IQ of a person who is legally retarded is something like 67.... so Bush is almost there. I figure I'll distract the secret service while someone sneaks up on him and knocks him over the head a bit with a plank... Not too hard though, we only need 10 points... then he'll be legally retarded!

Who cares what the penalty is? It's morally questionable, people shouldn't be doing it anyways. I say give hackers the death sentence. Whatever. If you don't hack then you need not worry.

What command line install? Is it so hard to type setup at the prompt? Thats all the command line there is in Slackware Install. Windows up to win98 was like that as well... and I'm commenting not on the original article, but about all the FUD about Slackware being difficult for beginners when it isn't. It's very straightforward.

XFree86Setup or whatever it was called used to be a real easy way to get X running... i dunno what happened to it though. XFree 4.x comes with a similar utility called xf86cfg though i've never had any success with it. I usually use xfree86config anyways. Its pretty easy as long as u know which video card u have and your monitor's properties.

Why do people think Slackware is difficult to use? I think its the most straight-forward distro out there. It comes with many applications, all working together flawlessly. Just have it run init 4 and I don't see how anybody could call Slackware difficult at all. The package management is the easiest, simplest, and best as well. I recently went to gentoo because I wanted an optimized distro, and I have to say that Gentoo is a million times harder to set up than Slackware. What's so hard about putting the boot disk in and running the ncurses based set-up people? When KDE is installed, newbies have no reason to fear.

Oh please, America is the real morally corrupt government here. In America, morals are secondary to preservation of the status quo, a feat which is often accomplished in immoral manners. Don't be mad at the Saudis for charging a lot for oil. In fact, they should be charging more. Oil the only thing they got, and its a limited resource. What are they gonna sell after the oil is gone? Sand? America is lucky to have such an abundance of natural resources and needs to watch that it doesn't get too greedy or prosperous times may soon be over.
