Actually, i'm much sicker of seeing all these uninformed ipods are disposable posts.
A little more info on ipod batteries. The batteries cost about $50. That's a damn good deal for a Li-Poly battery. Apple just charges you $50 more for them to replace it for you. If it's not wrth it to you, buy a battery, pop the case off, and replace it. pretty easy. Yes your cell phone battery is cheaper, but that's becasue it's a low-capacity NiMH battery. A similar battery would almosy double the size of the ipod and last about for 30 mins of music.
Apple can' use a standard battery. Cylinder cells hold little charge and are huge. Apple's custom batteries can be molded to make use of every spare area inside the ipod. I remember people comlaining about how the smaller G2 ipods had a shorter battery life. It if was a standard (which doesnn't exist) battery, it would be a lot worse. And a battery hat neesds to be replaced every 300 charges (whiich is about 3 years for most people; the ones whose batteries are dying must charge it too often) doesn't need a little door. THe case isn't that hard to remove.
Disclaimer, etc: I'm a mac fan. Also i just got my new G5 Sunday and am still getting used to the new keyboard, so sorr about the bad typing.

If you can make a regular batery fit inside an ipod and give the same charge time, you've got a job waiting for you at any electronics company out there.
apple lets you change your own. They will also do it for you for $99. And if it used standard batteries, it would be really big. The ability to shape to fit is a big advantage (in asddition to densty) of a Li-Poly battery. And if it used AAs (the only standard ones), the battery life would suck.
So they're gonna create a class action lawsuit on the basis that batteries die and cost money to replace? This is gonna be a hard sell. And i wouldn't be supprised if apple doesn't settle.
shit. Of course, a lot of people (non nerds mostly)are afraid to trust MS with financial info for fear MS will get hacked and the credit card #s stolen. Not that it would happen, but a lot of people think that MS is also running unpatched win me systems. Which is good for the rest of us.
Apple will be the only online music store to survive. Apple makes no profit, so nobody can compete on price points and make a profit. If you charge more people will go to apple instead. Either way, you go bankrupt while apple sells iPods.
btw, i use iTunes for the 1st time today, so it's not 25,000,001 songs downloaded.
Windows coders are not allowed to get anywhere near linux (or any other code). If a win coder needs to use a linux box, it will have absolutely NO source code on there anywhere. Code contamination scares the hell out of ms becasue if they end up with contaminated code the will be liable for huge amounts in damages and need to rework a large portion of windows(cause everything is intentionally over-integrated) in order to replace the offending code.
that's actuallly a damn good idea. Maybe vmware will realease a package like this so game companies can make a "linux port" of games that comes with its own little directx and minimal windows system. We'd see a lot more linux games, imo and iit would be cheaper for the game companies than actually doing the port.
the issues is that it is not consumer friendly to change the battery.
You or I can do it, but what about average consumers?
Somehow, i end up doing it for them.
So did i. I actually imagined a gingerbread mac cube. This is cool too, i guess. Except he's just begging to be "made redundant."

This will also mean they can fit a G5 in a powerbook. Time to start saving up.
sweet. thx man
I completely agree. As much as i want to click on the music store button in itunes, i force myself to vnc over to the winbox and fire up kazaa.
which doesn't exist. So how can apple use it?

and that (along with the ipod ripoff being newer than the ipod itself) is why they're dying already.
I should sue Sony. My laptop bettery died and they want $250 for a new one. What assholes.
yea. we should sue duracell, too. their batteries die too.

Dell's a bad example. Their R&D for the past couple years has consisted on one iPod and one iPaq.
NoUserLinux? UserlessLinux?

That'll never happen. It's like science fiction.

It's MS policy, not the GPL.

gee thanks. I could have gotten a karma point or two for asking id mplayer worked on OSX, but no.. you have to answer befopre i asked. meanie.
btw, thx for the link. anyone know if mplayer osx has the out of sync audio problem that it has on linux(or it it just me)?
source? MS likes virtualpc. They get to sell windows with it. They don't care if you buy windows to use it on a pc or a mac.
actually they are a RAM company. Just lixw xerox is a toner comapny, apple is a ram company.

I think this means that unless you're running Yellow Dog, and call Tech Support thay're gonna tell you boot into OSX or yellow dog).
hey, you finally found a use for the G5's ability to address > 4gb of ram. I just hope 2^64 is enough.
