Now we can all have our very own MCP in our VERY OWN HOME! I wonder if it will come with that very deep computerized british accent that I loved so much! "I want him in the games until he dies plain. End of line."
A very interesting perspective... one that I happen to lean towards since intelligence agencies are not usually a bunch of ignorant doofuses. They are smart, and there is a calculated reason for doing such actions. Let's hope it's benign, but if I had to bet money on their reason, my money's on that it's for covering tracks. We won't know unfortunately until 100 years from now, when the documents become declassified (if they ever do).
The cool thing is that you're absolutely 100% right. History is repeating itself... unforuntately, history seems to be repeating itself when I'm alive. *sigh*
Throwing down the "question your patriotism" card... nice... too bad most people see through those kinds of arguments. Having someone turn your own country into a warzone is not fun especially when it's a war on something you can't see... Look at what happened to the war on drugs? uhmm.... admittedly the US government funded black ops in the CIA by selling MORE drugs to Americans, not less...
Why is it unpatriotic, nevermind not OK in your view to question your government's policies on breaking civil liberties? To live under a rock and believe everything you read is unhealthy and incredibly foolish, and taking someone's word for it that the powers granted to them will be used for good is hogwash. You need safeguards... Remember Star Wars Episodes 1-3, where Palpatine chipped away the Republic to gain emergency powers and ultimately total control over the galaxy? Well certainly this US Administration is no Palpatine, but if we allow for a similar pattern to happen with no checks and balances, the US could end up with an Administration that has more power than it should and really cause a lot more loss of civil liberties than you realize.
The US was founded on the principles of providing civil liberties to its citizens. You take that away, and you take away America. How unpatriotic is that when your founding constitution is eroded to the point where it's as useful as toilet paper? If you kill the US Consitution and the Bill Of Rights, you no longer have a free America. Period.
The movie publishers just don't get it. Retailers will see a BIG boost in sales if the movies drop in price to about 50-75% the current price. I never bought 1 UMD for my PSP until about 2 weeks ago when Blockbuster had a sale and were selling selected UMD titles as "buy 2 for $20" CDN. You can't get any better than that. I picked up "Snatch" and "Cowboy Beebop: The Movie", and if they still have the sale on, I'm going to pick up a couple more.
The lesson here is the that consumer may be willing to drop $20 US for a comedy title since a person can typically watch a comedy over and over again... the genre has a high replayability factory. But this isn't just a question of demographics and content, it's about the price too dummies.
The point of the theory was that the unrest and the fall of the government wasn't the point... the point was that it will incite war... and if you do your research, war is a very lucrative business to be in, especially if you're a US Military contractor or contractor shareholder. War is VERY profitable for people supplying the guns...
Normally, I don't subscribe to these sorts of theories, but all of the current events in Europe, US, and in the Middle East are all too synchronized to be just coincidence. I came across an article that bears some reading...
I have read some material that suggests that the cartoons are a psy-op by US interests on the Muslim population, planned to create EU resentment to Muslim rioters to lend support for an attack on Iran by US, the UK, and other countries that want to stop Iran enriching their uranium. The theory is that the US and the UK want the war. Why not stage riots to create resentment in the EU against Muslim states? The number of supporters in the UN for an attack on Iran will increate naturally, and anyone with an interest in making money from a war will get another war...
Bah... it's all speculation, but who knows... maybe the world will invade Iran in March or April?
My wife has number-oriented Dyslexia , and can't do math worth beans... very hard for her to relate to it. She is in healthcare as a personal support worker, and does very well at it. I am a programmer, but as a kid I was highly musical and a kid who had a tallent for art. As I got older (16 years), I was able to get right into math and did quite well at it... I was even told by my main math teacher that I was creative with math. My wife and I now have a son who is almost 2 years old, and I even though it's hard to say what the world will bring him, I guess the idea of genetic diversity is good for him. Who knows if he will have Dyslexia... Does anyone know when you could find out if a child suffers from some form of Autism, Aspergers, or Dylexia?
Thinking about this, Asperger's Syndrome is defined as "characterized by severe and sustained impairment in social interaction, development of restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior, interests, and activities." Give the link that is being suggested by this article, could it entirely be possible that Asperger's Syndrome comes from parents who lack some degree of social sensitivity on a genetic basis? Combine both parents, and you get someone who exhibits Asperger's Syndrome-like behaviour?
Perhaps they really don't want it for pr0n, and that they want it for other information to mine??? If you can get the info for one reason, you can mine it for another... think aboout that.
IMHO, this is a question of value. Does the print bring more value to the reader than online material? In most videogame magazines, the answer is unfortunately NO. One publication, Play Magazine, attempts to deliver value to the gamer community in their publication by printing articles that go deeper than your standard publication, along with exclusive interviews with many different facets of the game developer world. Their magazine provides additional information covering topics such as gaming in Japan, anime, manga, DVDs, and music, interesting to gamers and media junkines. The in depth reviews I read there tend to examine artistic merits of a game, and look at the emotional impact as well, moreso than some other rags. I digress... If a print publication can provide value, it will gain momentum and gain readership. It's true of any product really. If there's a product out there that demonstrate more value than another competitive product, then it will be chosen.
Also, it doesn't hurt that Play Magazine reads really well on the shitter... Every time I sit down to do my business, I pick up a Play Mag and read it, looking for tidbits I missed. And they look great piled up on the back of the toilet!
"Get her off the computer... terminate the internet access if you have to... she is in crisis and you're just enabling her addiction... get rid of the computer if you have to... she's replacing healthly living with this addiction... give her something healthy to do..."
That's what I think he would say... no idea if he would.
But yah dude... kill your Internet access for a few weeks... it should help her get back to normal.
Your boss is a dolt. He is an idiot. Your instincts are right. Version and defect tracking tools are very important to producing quality products. Explain to him that your department will produce better code and you all will look better if you keep track of your defects and versions. There are many benefits to using these sorts of tools, and if he doesn't want to use them, then at least you should use them for yourself. If he gets mad at you, then tell him you need it because nobody is perfect and defect tracking can ultimately make him look better and keep you happy in your job. If he says no, plan to quit and find a new job.
Unfortunately, I was a die-hard Maxtor fan until in the last two years I have had 2 Maxtor drives fail, and have seen at least 4 more go on the fritz at our company. I always recommended Seagate or Western Digital because Maxtor doesn't meet the reliability grade. Looks as if I will only be recommending Western Digital, because who knows what kind of crap drives Seagate will produce now with the Maxtor shit line folding into their existing business... why do they do this to customers? I will not be buying any Seagate drives until at least 2007, when I may see some actual performance and reliability numbers in lab tests.
Sounds like these guys have been watching too many episodes of Full Metal Alchemist, and are making chimeras, albeit very little ones. Science takes things too far, and we'll suddenly have "smart mice" running the world!
I don't carry a backpack anymore... I use a small man-purse/bag and pop my PSP in there with my Capdase hard-shell UMD protectors. Because I commute to and from work, I have a spare USB charger cable plugged into my PC and I can charge my PSP while I work. No hassles. I load up my PSP the night before with about 2+ hours of video on my 1/2 GB stick, and I watch it when I have time, if I don't feel like playing a game. I dump the occasional podcast on there, or some new tunes and I have photos of my son I can show people... oh yah, and I have a WiFi web browser too! This is all with no homebrew, or no extra cost to me. The games cost, but I believe in buying my games and supporting the publishers... there's something to be said for having those nice small jewel cases.
Speaking of which, I'm almost 30 hours into Metal Gear Ac!d and it's by far the best story driven (maybe the only real one) game for the PSP to date. Looking forward to Death Jr.! I love pick up and go gaming, no matter what platform you have!
I live in Canada, so the fair use laws are different here (it doesn't mean pirating is legal, just the definitions are different). Also, I have had a PVR unit for 1.5 years, so I am able to convert all of this content legally for my own personal use. I pay $100/month for my cable... you think that I should try to get some value for that when I'm not at home gluing my ass to the tube. I ride the subway, so this is the perfect way for me to enjoy the shows I wouldn't normally get to watch with the little time I have.
Alas, you do make some points, but I especially find your rehtoric laughable.
Agreed, I could use a Pocket PC, but I choose not to. I can't play the level of games on a Pocket PC that I can play on the PSP, even with the PSP's currently limited library. I have worked on converting videos to Pocket PC, but if I want to play decent framerates and have decent battery life, I have to pay more for a powerful Pocket PC. I can't justify the extra features of a Pocket PC, as I just plainly don't use them. I tried using a Pocket PC for 6 months, and I found it more cumbersome to use it for my needs. Compare that to the countless hours of enjoyment out of the PSP.
I was using an iPaq, and the earphone jack was 2.5"... try to find headphones to fit that without a clunky adapter. I would lose my data on it if my batteries were too low. Of course I didn't have any wireless access or web browser I could use, and I would need to sync my device all the time to get content. The games were limited, and converting movies was a pain. I'm sure now that if I had spent $500 I could have gotten the Pocket PC that did everything, but I chose to spend $300 and get a platform that suits my needs just fine.
Of course, my arguments aren't well formed, but everyone should get the point. It is based on personal experience, but there's no reason to be a snob about your Pocket PC if the Pocket PC, its features and price are not really necessary for many people, myself included.
I'll stick with my enjoyable PSP, and I'll be watching Carnivale, BSG Season 2, and the rest of Charlie Jade in the months to come! Maybe I'll even watch Sin City on the subway!
I'm not disputing any claims that the games library for the PSP is "lacking", but the big picture that Sony is selling us is real. The PSP is revolutionary in that it does all the functions it does well considering its size and cost.
I have watched a TON of TV on my PSP that I would have never had the opportunity to watch. I've seen Season 1 of Battlestar Galactica twice, Into The West, Full Metal Achemist, Charlie Jade, and 25 movies of mine that I would have never had time or opportunity to watch at home. I own 5 PSP games, and frankly, I think they are the best out of the library for a number of reasons, but I won't buy anymore until something worthwhile comes out.
It's funny how quickly we forget that the PSP does personal video really well! Make use of it! We can homebrew yes, but if you like TV or movies, the PSP video playback takes the bite out of the lacking game library. Every day can be a new experience if you want it to be!
...is the person who said "screw football" and did something else! Bah football!
I stand corrected... I never did watch the movie with the subtitles on... thanks :D
