OK, so it's a bad idea to use root. So the best idea is to require an administrative password that is required for some areas that are dangerous. I use this on my PC, but it needs to be implemented in the OS. So that any time you get a message stating that the root account is required a nice pretty descriptive dialog box appears requesting the password.
I agree that if they are right they should be compensated, even though I use GNU\Linux exclusively at home and cherish it.
I've been using the Linux kernel since 0.99 and would say that if their is any code from UNIX trademark we could do without it anyways. I suspect it would be possible to re-implement without violation.
Hi Andrew Carlssin,
While we are stuck in jail together you think you can give me a winning lotto number I can call my wife with. Thanks buddy and if you see my future great great children tell them I was never in jail.
The local office will assist you through the forms, why pay for it, especially if you have the time. My local office wasn't terribly busy when I went by there last.;-)
Actually I did quite well in college 3.9 GPA! But plenty of my college buddies are not making much better that 45K a year in the IT indistries. I no plenty others that can't get that.
One thing I learned from all the homework is that it in the end it doesn't gaurantee you a really excellent job especially in the market we are in right now. It all boils down to luck. Look at most millionaires like Bill Gates(no college degree, and he can't program any more if ever.)
Its really lame that the 8 hours you spend in school isn't enough time. If you have to bring school home with you then someone isn't teaching well. There should be ample to time during school hours for schoolwork to get done if the students wants, instead of being forced home with it. Its basicly training everyone to be ok with bring work home for the rest of their lives and thats not cool and most people don't get paid enough for that.
After reading the FAQS page it states over and over that its not for the Linux Guru to use on as their desktop environment. Its meant as a tool for those guys to setup for the "Windows Simpleton". So if you are a "Windows Guru" your not who its aimed at.
It will be used as a tool for an orginization too switch over to linux desktops, most likely the orginzation who are using locked down desktops or considering it.
Most agenecy use Office because they think their customers use all of their special features, when they don't. Their use of XML as they intend is really rather a MS way of doing things, just like in IE.
The way OpenOffice handles XML is quite cool, if you have unziped a document, its organized into several files ones for styles and content.
Anyway what was my point? Oh yeah MS sucks and opensource rules!
You must have never used WordPerfect.
Its by a far distance better than Word as far a preserving the qaulity of a document. It produces much better output than Word. Reveal codes are the reall helper in fixing documents of any kind.
Sun is wise to keep their heads down and really look over the Linux technology that they have to make sure nothing remotely SCO related might be found inside.
They won't abanden Linux, in fact they had their Engineers working to make Java run best on Linux and had neglected Java on Solaris.
There are more people looking for holes in Linux and OSX(BSD), but they have the uperhand in that they can look through the source code. Most of them are called hackers and developers who help the systems become more secure.
I happen to aggree with you.
My self I do mostly scripting exclusively and find that most hired programmers no very little how to do though. I don't know why this would be the case except that they learned an Object Oriented language and never bother with scripts or batch files. They come to me when they need that.
Does'nt suppoort "File locking" or "File ACL Support".
I've been able to use ACL support in Linux after compiling.
Is File Locking critical? I'm mean what can happen to a file it more than one person opens a file, does it allow them to save over each other's version?
Windows 9X/ME was indeed built on DOS 7.X. I don't believe that Win NT/2000/XP are built on DOS, but rather the NT Kernel, which could easily be consider like the DOS kernel, but built more sturdy. Show XP would be the Windowing system running atop the NT Kernel.
They don't allow MS to be the operating system its on. And the system is read only with no way at all in to the system. The prosecution of a programmer involved in putting a back door of any kind in the system. No BUFFER OVERFLOWS at all fhoddamit! |-\
Beat me! But I will never give up on my Country 'The United States Of America!" the best coutry in the world, not necessarily the purest people, but the best!
Open Sourse Rulez!
If your are not part of the solution so be it! OK harsh but if you're a scientist involved with buidling killing you should be willing to die for what you do. End of Story! o-o.
I here this alot, it's not true. Do you get support from MS on Windows problems by calling them up? I never have called them, but other techs have and then get charged for not correcting the problem. I can fix just about every problem the 4800 user's of Windows have thrown at me (you get real good at fixing Windows problems because there are so many of them)
At home I use GNU/Linux of course and have beat the sh#t out of it and brought it back just as good as before.
Bottom line from the easy to find support and lack of need of it for the most part, linux is just as supported an OS as MS or better.
Whose to say that they wouldn't say that BSD is violating their IP aswell.

NT was started out as a CLI OS. Later from work that had done with IBM and OS2 they decided to add the win api to the mix and call it Windows NT.

Sun has done some very good things with technology and agree that this is just PR at the moment.
Java has been good for everyone and StarOffice/OpenOffice was a nice contribution as well.
Sun isn't defecting they have alot invested in OpenSource at the moment.
I am asking for 1 Gagilion Dollars. Mwa Ha Ha Ha Mwa Ha Ha Ha

Please people its imature to believe otherwise.
Post your concerns to the feedback on http://www.pcisig.com it will probably get to the right person somehow. Thats what I did.
