When the only incentive to follow the (often ridiculous) rules of the school is knowing that in a few years it will all be over, how much respect do you expect these kids to show? If your boss treated you like an inmate, would you show him/her respect? You would find a different job. Respect is something you earn, whether you are student or teacher, not something you deserve just because you are in a position of power...and the good teachers WILL receive respect.
There is something fundamentally wrong with the relationship between teachers and students. I have been out for years now, but I am still bitter about high school.
Speaking from experience, the biggest problem I had with highschool is that it was run like a fucking prison. The teachers aren't there to teach you, they are there to babysit you while mommy and daddy work so that you aren't on the streets. Furthermore, if I ever thought of a teacher as a 'fucking retard' it was because they were acting like one. Whether this is the fault of the teachers themselves or the ridiculous and impossible mandates handed down to them from on high I don't know..(I suspect the latter).
That may be true, but then the first people they should be going after are the people who violated the non-disclosure agreement. And even above that, they should realize that there are no secrets anymore and give the whole damn thing a rest. That applies to most of the DMCA disasters. Think of how many people never even heard of DeCSS before the lawsuit. It only serves to spread the information they are trying to protect.
When my girlfriend tried to get a phoneline to her new apartment, where the phone lines already existed, it took 6 months of going back and forth with Ameritech/SBC. Everytime we would call they would say that her drivers license was invalid. Eventually we had to fax them her social security card and drivers license. They still denied her because they said her social security card "looked fake". After faxing her cards a 3rd time, they finally said they would activate her line IF she put a $125 deposit down. Completely ridiculous. If there is going to be a class action lawsuit I hope info gets posted on/. because I want in. If you think thats bad, google for "ameritech complaints" or "sbc complaints" and read some of the other experiences people have had. It seems like everyone has a phone company horrror story and it shouldn't be that way.

Coming from someone in the same mental place as the original poster, I can say that these things probably won't help.
Vacations haven't helped me, even the stay-at-home ones. It's not a very good situation to be in.
How about over $1200? They managed to more than double their goal. I think there is definitely a demand.

ACLU does this kind of thing also though. Maybe they would be interested.
