I believe you misunderstand his post. He is merely pointing out differences between the games... it is not an issue of better or worse but rather differences. You cannot contests that there is a big difference between the style of play, the board and the way that the game is viewed/commercialized.
Chess has been archived so that every great master has his style emulated by a computer. Computers learn chess easier because there is more to draw on and less probability to calculate.
I agree about the last comment re: 20-30moves.
But he is not making imbalanced better/worse comparisons but rather highlighting the differences!

  5. What about the users of Hotmail? on Collateral Damage in the Spam War · · Score: 1

Hotmail users seem to have it tough. They have four levels of junk mail filtering only... from 'none', to 'low', to 'high', to 'exclusive'. If you turn the filter on high, even, you still tend to get 10+ junk mail messages per day. When I turned 'exclusive' on, even the messages from my contact list were deleted immediately, as I set junk mail for immdediate deletion. If only there could be solutions for hotmail... but there don't seem to be, so I use my hotmail address for MSN Messenger Service and an outlook client otherwise. That email address, I don't give out... and I haven't gotten spam on it yet! Perhaps that's a good idea, too. Make sure your email is not easily harvestable. This is a good way to avoid spam without any other programs.

On the subject of conference presentations, I was browsing the University of Kent's website when I found this excellent article in their Psychology section, entitled the Do's and Don'ts for Conference Presentors.
This might be of interest to the other slashdotters, because though it's a 1998 article, it deal with the psychological impact of Conference presentations, which do not change with year-to-year revisions of the Powerpoint series and the like.

  11. The general public wants this? on Sony Hard Drive Recorder for Cars · · Score: 1

"Sony has introduced the Sony MEX-1HD. This is an in-dash CD/Receiver with a 10 giagbyte hardrive built in to rip CD's at 8X speed. It also has an auxilliary input that allows connection of an MP3 player, tape, MD player, and/or an optional Sony plug-and-play XM Satellite Radio tuner. The price is a little steep at $1,499.99, but it's still nice to see a major car audio manufacturer delivering what the public wants." Just what we all needed! Now we can fiddle with an expensive piece of equipment while we should be keeping our eyes on the road! Now if I could fit my burner, an internet connection, and my computer with Kazaa into the car, I could download the songs, burn them to a CD, put the CD in my flashy new MEX-1HD and rip them to the hard drive! More music for my car! Wait, no, completely unfeasable. Seems like an overpriced and redundant gadget to me. But then again I could rip my entire collection of MP3CDs, then bring new MP3CDs and I'd have twice as much music for those 50 hour car trips that we all take. Wait no, bad idea again. Isn't this a bit of overkill? :P *HUGS* Megumi.

  13. Re:Lilo and Stitch all the way! on Review: Men In Black II · · Score: 2, Interesting

I agree... Lilo and Stitch was an excellent movie. I can provide the quick review: This movie follows the Disney tradition of a great movie after a stinker. For example, Toy Story 2 was great while Dinosaur was nauseating. Lilo and Stitch, thankfully, comes after a bomb and is the best movie I've seen all year. Without spoiling the plot, it's a great movie for all ages. The interaction between the girl, Lilo, and the alien, Stitch, is priceless and had the theatre in stitches *no pun intended* as well as in tears at some parts. Guys, go see it... disregard your slashbotting urges to say that it's Disney and evil. On another note: I think the reason MIB2 gets more cover on Slashdot is it has more face value to slashbotters than a "kids movie" like Lilo and Stitch. Anyways my point's been made *HUGS* Megumi. english lessons going a long way!

It scary to believe that the government of USA will have the "organization" Echelon without the admittance it existing. Perhaps the adherence to rights of privacy paramounting formulation of the "protocol" of spying???
I am not the expert on foreign or the internal policies of the Americas as off yet. However I am "believing" the spying is not in the present what the public is needing. The "government" is not to go withouts the punishments for spying but the encouragement of the spying activates by others are not the ways to "convincing" government to respect privacy, which I believing to be important.
So my fellow "slashbots" my point are the followings: Why watching watchers when we can having no watchers at all? We electing the government. So we telling them what we wanting in the end ;)
