its about time they just put up a brick wall against tcp25... i for one have gotten sick and tired of the 125-250ms roundtrip times that you can experience on their network in the evening hours. the performance usually follows worm trends predictably. and surely it is a simple matter for someone who can administer an email server to begin with to set an outbound mta in their configuration. you just know the next set of worms is going to probe the mta info somehow. but for now it will be a nice reprieve.

from what ive read the AI is horribly broken. and you are forced to use this AI to manage your colonies for you, and when this broken AI does something goofy and you try to rectify it, on the next turn it GOES BACK to the way it was... this is a problem folks. Between MOO3 and Freelancer, the modern day PC gaming industry has managed to collectively urinate on 2 of the greatest PC game brands. Not that i care for tradition or even cherished memories of the passed. It just stinks, and yea i suppose its like expecting your favorite band to re-write your favorite album over and over every time they put out a record. I just wish that if they couldnt live up to the legend then just let it go, and call your game something like "In 2 Years there wont be any difference between the PC and consoles cause thats what some marketroid fuckstick wants Space Combat Shooter" or "we taylor our games to the no-brained 14 year olds of this generation cause all the hardcore gamers got married and their wives dont let'em buy PC shit anymore Turn Based Strategy" So yea i guess ill just keep on blastin Nazi's in Battlefield 1942.

  4. "any society that requires indentification..." on Mandated Regulation/Certification for Computer Repair? · · Score: 1

how can the consumer market or the government regulate devices that it doesnt understand ? and yea i must concur with many of my fellow slashdotters when i say that ive noticed a SEVERE lack of talent and/or skill out of people with 6 certs neatly pinned to their cube wall. regulating that stuff would be wrought with corruption and pay-offs and unconscious paycheck collectors. not that it already isnt, it would just institutionalize the process, a friggin' nightmare.

  5. Radeon 9700 Pro on Radeon 9700 Pro: ATI Ahead · · Score: 2, Informative

I purchased this video adapter 2 weeks ago, and while i did have one minor driver duke out between catalyst and detonator :), all was well. every game i own plays fantastically as well as some older legacy games which the GF 3's and later would chop up, such as Xwing Alliance. i do get minor shadow corruption out of "Mafia" but that game hasnt been very fun anyways so just as well. I must concur with the slashdotters who feel you have some other underlying hardware incompatibility and/or driver issue. Ive had bad experience with ATI products in the passed in relation to driver support and poor game functionality, and i can assure you, dear fellow gamer, that the Radeon 9700 pro is a different animal entirely... :)

  6. SF writers get old and soft headed after a while on Hominids: The Neanderthal Parallax · · Score: 1

just like any other artform, the most relevant and hard core performers of Science Fiction are the least visible. Now people who get pushed onto bookstore shelves like crichton and sawyer and clark all used to write damn good sci fi, but after years of being placated have grown soft and lossed the edge that allowed them to write competantly in the passed. if you like the multi-universe quantum stories than may i recommend Greg Egan
