I'd much rather pay extra than see ads. Also, I don't understand why internet ads need to be so repetitive either, they should be smarter. It's not TV or radio. You can track how many times I've seen your ad and probably know more about me than TV. Yet time again on you tube or whereverI see the same ads over and over. If I saw it already 2 times do I really need to watch it again?
"If pure libertarianism really works, why isn't there countries like this? Because it doesn't work in reality. A pure libertarian system in reality would be just as flawed as a pure communist system, even though both in theory sound great."
Wow, great reasoning.
I'm sure Edison thought: If the light bulb really works, why doesn't it exist yet? Because it doesn't work in reality.
Let's all disregard trying to do anything because it doesn't work because someone else hasn't done it yet.
"You can just pick up a book and do it yourself. In practice, though, it's much easier to learn it in college, and most people who don't go to college will never learn it on their own."
Let's see, 1. Apply to college. 2. Go to school every day/night. 3. Buy books and read them 4. Take several other courses for your degree that you could give a crap about. 5. Pay thousands of dollars
I don't know if it's being "Liberal" but they are being idiots, idiots with conspiracy theories.
Microsoft takes as many anti-piracy steps as any other company with a product to protect. They use cd-keys, online registration and even restrict windows update. Everytime they try something more people bitch about it. Now here is someone telling people that they just let people use pirated windows as part of their grand master plan. I suppose ID software did the same thing with the pirated copy of Doom 3
This is crazy. Microsoft is definately "Damned if you do, Damned if you don't"
Or what if we didn't rely on the government to take care of our retirement at all? What if we took the responsablity to save money all by our selves?
Screw the people that don't have any sense to save money for retirement. That just means they don't get a retirement!
If I don't don't make enough money to buy a loaf a bread now, why is the government taking my money to "save" for retirement later? Shouldn't I be able to buy food so I don't starve to death or freeze to death?
And what is this nonsense about "the weath gap"? The weath gap provides motovation for me to get off my ass and make some money for myself or for my children.
Socialism is fun. I think social programs will eventually collapse under there own weight. No socal programs seem to work very well and a lot of them fail completely. The only good way to handle stuff like this is to let people do what they want. The bigger the program the faster and more expensive the inevitable failure.
I'd say it's successful in Switzerland because you don't know all the facts of what is really going on.
If it I had it my way, there would be no forced recycling programs. If you want to recycle you can. Our family used to recycle aluminum and scrap metal. Once a month or so we'd haul our garbage to the dump and get a few bucks in the process.
It's not called the United STATES of America for nothing.
The US is a lot bigger than Switzerland. We can't just go and start making gigantic programs for the entire contry. That's why this type of thing should be handled on a state to state level. I'm sure New York may have a bigger computer waste problem than Kansas and should handle it differently than New York.
Plus you got the fact that recycling is mostly bullshit anyway. How exactly is a computer recycled? Sounds to me like a bunch of hippies and lobbiest are trying to tax something for the sake of taxing it. Shouldn't recycling be free anyway? What does the company do with the recycled goods? Why can't they sell them for a profit?
Any what the hell is with the Kyoto protocol anyway? Lower the tempature or the world by.15c? Sounds like a lot of work for not a lot of gain. Also sounds like a big scheeme to steal from the rich to give to the poor. Besides it's not just Bush that doesn't want it, in 1997 the senate vote 95-0 against such treaties because they would seriously hurt the US economy.
Call me selfish, but I perfer we stay on top of the world. Technology will eventually take care of these problems on it's own. Anytime the government imposes regulations it tends to hurt the rate of new technology.
So you might as well change the SSID and not broadcast it(if you can). Obviously you don't want unauthorized users to connect. Changing the ID is simple and would help keep people from knowing exactly which router you are using.
We should probably go ahead and force every computer and video game console to install a v-chip device so that we can protect the children from violent/sexual content on these systems. After all it worked so well on TV.
OMG! LOL!!!1 I setup my network camera on my computer and now it can be viewed on the internet! I guess wtf? I figured it would magicly know which computers should be able to connect to it! GOOGLE IS EVIL for peep at my camera that is on the internet that any 1 can connect to!!!!12
Of course if people would just setup a firewall this thing would never happpen. There are flaws with all kinds of software. Why would you just let programs randomly listen on port 40010?
" Panasonic could mitigate some of the damage they've done with their camera's stupid default features by not accepting connections referred to them by google."
Or people can stop being stupid and setup a firewall.
Firewall. It's nothing new. It's for when you install something that might have a flaw, which is everything.
Most of these pages seem like internet sites. So what's the big deal if people connect to it through the internet? Why would you put up a site and then be shocked that people can see it?
-- "Private industry should make it, not NASA!", private industry *does* make spacecraft. --
The debate is not weather federal employees build the shuttle or private contractors, but rather that private industry should PAY for the contruction, not public tax funds.
GOVERNMENT: Give us some money to explore outer space.
JOE TAXPAYER: No, I don't think it's that important. Besides, I'd rather spend this money on food for my family, or heat for my house, or invest it for my retirement, or half-life 2.
GOVERNMENT: We'll take you're money anyway. If you resist we'll throw you in jail. If you resist going to prison, we'll shoot you.
The CD/DVD technology might not be as popular if he did enforce a patent. If everyone had to pay him royalties for using his optical technology, then maybe they would have found a better/cheaper storage medium and made that the standard.
Before CD burners were cheap there were all kinds of other storage devices.
So maybe he wouldn't have made any money anyway either way.

It seems to me that the second option is easier.
CNN and Fox News both plan to release video feed live on your television for free.
I stand corrected.

Yes, we all saw Back to the Future, Part 2.
I just think it's cool that they use Bittorrent as the only way to download a copy.
Fatality!
Someone should do a study about how much Slashdot cost companies in productivity each year.

Survival of the fittest. That's what I say.

Funny, My fan on my AIW 9800 Pro just died this weekend. It's made by ATI.(board and chipset).
I'll have to go with this guy on this. Next time I am getting an Nvidia card, better drivers for Linux and hopefully better fans.
Maybe this can be used for robots to recognise stuff or something like that.

No it isn't.

That's no excuse for how lame this "story" is.

Too bad I can't mod the entire story as -1 LAME.

Bah, there's got to be a better solution than to all live in some UN Hippie commune in Northern Russia.
I say we start developing underwater domes. That would be cool.
