Not that I care, but did anyone notice that they're using some mozilla-only CSS stuff?

So when an IE user goes to the site, some stuff appear to be broken (like the green box that says "Free Download" doesn't have rounded corners on IE)... Small details, but still...

On the other hand, looks very good on mozilla. :D

Since you are looking at the engine source, you may want to take a look at Ken Silverman's site. He created the build engine, and has some comments and code there too.

You forgot to mention that project based on the Doom source that represented each process as a monster on a map. You could shoot them to kill or slow them down...

    That's the URL:

Sure, it's not a desktop, but I like the idea of interacting with the system that way. Most of current projects (at least those you mentioned) are simply filesystem navigation tools. I think that 3D desktops will need to represent the system in a more complete way - for example, objects for interacting with your printer (throw a document 'window' at the printer to print?) or setting mouse options, stuff like that...

That could be cool, depending on how you would have to kill him... if it don't get nethack-style frustrating.

(Some time since I read the book, but I do remember Ender getting stuck at that face-the-giant situation...)

  8. Re:Human brain on Computer Made From DNA And Enzymes · · Score: 2, Interesting

I always tought of that in a different way...

I don't think our brain does any computation while doing that. It just retrieves from memory information about other times when you tried to throw a ball - it remebers last time you tried to throw anything with similar wind, last time you tried to throw anything that size or weight - cross that information, and then just make a guess, based on what you did before, no math involved. If it really tried to compute anything, then you would never miss (or just barely miss), and there would be no reason to throw balls lots of times until you get it right often enough (aka training), just do it once, maybe twice, and you'll be ready.

Also I wouldn't go as far as saying that today's computers are faster than our brain - you can say that our brain coordinates lots of things in realtime, from breathing, heartbeats (not sure about this one though) to precise eye movements.

And that could be done with DNA computers. It can be done with my computer - but would be so slow that I couldn't do anything with a system that is flexible enough.

Then again, it is past 1 am here, and my brain must be computing a way to get me away from the computer...

Buy software? Here in Brazil, we can download the software from Receita Federal for free, and send them the information online, or go to the nearest Banco do Brasil and give them a floppy disk (for those that don't want / can't send online)
