I recommend people the applications I am using because I know them and when they ask me some more about them I'll be able to help them.
E.g. I tell my parents to use Firefox because it has many features and some annoyances that I'm aware of and when they ask me about something I know what they are speaking about.
I hate it when they come to me and expect me to be able to help them with a program I've never used before myself.
Hey, it's google it has to be an industry first. Better believe it!
In other news http://map.search.ch/ has had this for some time now and you can zoom down to street level and the street names are actually blended over the satelite picture. I can even find my own house with this thing easily. It's only for switzerland though, so it doesn't count because we all know that google covers the entire world known to our civilisation.
Sounds nice, why don't you put it on update.mozilla.org, so more people will become aware of this extension. I'm personally using the "Bookmarks Synchronizer" Extension available here. It allows you to syncronize your bookmarks with your own FTP server or WebDav account.
I tried Portable Firefox, but since I'm using Firefox on (at least) 3 different operating systems and I can install extensions on all of them it's much easier with this plugin.
I thought they cleaned up the interface, but IMO it's worse than ever. Not only are the icons ugly, they also introduced a non-native toolbar with a fading color in the background and if that's not enough for you, then you can still customize all the other colors, like the background of the window...
you can however not change the background of the toolbar...
Who needs a 3d web? - Are newspapers in 3D? No.

Oh well. I'm on debian testing here and still stuck with gnome 2.8!

BeOS is largely POSIX compatible and has many unix tools that come with it as well.
