It is my understanding that Square produced games exclusively for Sony for two reasons.
1. Sony helped Square pay off some massive debt after the failing of Spirits. This gave Sony a voice in the company, but there was no contract of exclusivity signed.
2. Square ended the love affair with Nintendo primarily because Nintendo refused to move away from a cartridge based system. Square wanted to move towards games with astounding amounts of high resolution graphics. This began with the N64, but it is still relevant. The GameCube uses optical disks with 1.5GB storage capacity. The PS2 uses DVD's with 4.7GB capacity.
Square Enix will most likely continue to ignore the GameCube. However, with Sony having a smaller voice in the new company (if Sony can ever have a small voice), we can probably expect a few Square Enix games for the XBox. The XBox uses DVD's with 9GB storage capacity and has more powerful graphics processing. But maybe Square Enix will choose to support its fellow Japanese company (Nintendo) and will choose to ignore the American rival (MS). These are exciting times for RPG fans.
Joe Computer User is a stereotype. It's fairly obvious that this term is a gross generalization, but I think most people would agree that this term refers to people who have very little knowledge about their computer and make no effort to learn more. Of course, your opinion of "very little knowledge" is relative to one's own level of computer knowledge, but if somebody's computer stops working correctly and he gets angry instead of inquisitive, he is probably an "average computer user" or "Joe Six-Pack" or whatever.
And regarding your signature, you probably have some spyware installed. I do not get any requests for doubleclick.net cookies.
Before you get too worked up about this, you should realize that the organizers of DefCon have always used Roman numerals to refer to their conferences. For example, the last one I attended was marketed as "DefCon VIII" on most t-shirts and paraphernalia I saw.
If you were asking why do people use Roman numerals when perfectly good modern numbers exist? Well, I have to agree with you.
I just wanted to point out that the organizers of DefCon were using Roman numerals long before the recent explosion of the letter X.
I don't like being the person who makes these trite complaints, but I also don't want to see Slashdot get into a habit of being days behind other sites.
Plastic had a nice article about this on July 28th.
I try not to go out of my way to correct the grammar or spelling mistakes of other people, but if you are going to go out of your way to use a French phrase, at least learn how to spell it.
The correct spelling is "du jour," not "d'jeur." I am not being pedantic; I just don't like to see insightful comments eroded by silly surface errors like this one.
When I read interviews like this one, I don't how to react. I try to get more information, but it is so difficult to obtain unbiased facts.
I feel like I have been programmed by society to view comments like Auerbach's as "crazy conspiracy theory talk." And when I try to find information to support Auerbach, I do find some relevant and informative material, but most of it reminds me of Bush's "we must get the evil ones" speeches due to its uninformed and clearly biased nature.
I guess I'm trying to ask, "How worried should I be?" And can anybody point me to a source of informationt that cites references and tries to use facts only with no opinions?
I applaud the creator for his ingenuity and originality. However, it seems that a comfortable chair mounted on quality castors would be more versatile.
It's still a very cool project though. When I see people actualize ideas like these, it makes me appreciate the fact that maybe everybody doesn't have to grow up and turn into an old cynical conformist.

Some of my friends play console games, like Frequency, where you have to move your fingers in complex patterns of complex rhythms at a mindnumbing speed. When playing the hardest boards in these games, my friends will often enter a trance-like state. You can yell at them or cut off your own arm, and they will still finish the board.
I've found a swift blow to the stomach or saying, "Oh shit, the pizza's here, dude. Gimmme your money," are the best ways to pull them out of it.
why don't you a) calm down & reread his submission and b)learn to spell a word if you're going to be using it so much?
He has no "non linux" requirement. He just doesn't want to run linux on his main machine. As somebody else pointed out, he even asks if a cheap firewall machine could work.
And the word is spelled ZEALOT.

Every action taken by a business is done in order to increase profits. I'm sure the execs at New Line would not let an opportunity like this slip past them; so of course releasing two different editions is a money grab. What else could it possibly be? When Jackson defends releasing two distinct editions, he is merely trying to say that he thinks they did a good job on making two separate editions that will appeal to two separate demographics. I don't think anybody is so naive of American business practices to think that this plan is anything but an obvious (and maybe acceptable) method of increasing profits for New Line.
I imagine that the Treasury Department and Justice Department want to be able to claim jurisdiction quickly and easily in these cases, and now they can cite a federal crime being committed. Of course the feel-good nature of the legislation is helpful to the politicians.
I am not trying to troll; I am merely trying to present an opposing opinion.
Your views of dominance and submission are simply wrong, my friend. Why must humans feel the need to dominate those around them? It is merely a sign of their weakness and insecurities. Instead, people should try to understand their companions and help their fellow humans.
And your view of feminism is tempting but specious. The only true goal of feminism is to allow women to be equal to men in the eyes of our government and society. This is not to say that women should act like men; the loss of feminine beauty and grace would be tragedy of unfathomable proportions. You are judging the entire movement from the actions and beliefs of a radical minority. This seems to be a familiar thread in American logic. (And before you decry me as a judgmental foreigner, let me tell you that I lived the first 18 years of my life in Alabama.)
I am not trying to attack you, and I believe that your overall point regarding Anthony is right on target. I just believe that you need to reexamine your feeling that dominance and predation are somehow natural and good. They are the cause of so much evil in this world. If we could gain some security in our own masculinity, many problems of society that stem from men would cease to exist.
Thank you for giving me this chance to discuss ideas very dear to me.
I remember many years ago my parents and I got into an argument about my video game habits. They couldn't understand how I could play some game for hours at a time. One day I sat my mom down and showed her tetris on the NES. A month later we bought a second console, because my parents loved the game so much. It is still the only video game that my parents play.

Don't be too quick to label these people as warez kiddies or people who are somehow different from you.
Warez can become an addiction, just like mp3's. It starts out with you downloading the newest Dreamweaver for your new flashy website; then you get the latest Photoshop to doctor your home pics. Then three months later, you have a 60g hard drive on your cable modem server, running a cracked version of XP, that is full of the latest and greatest graphics and rendering software. It's very, very easy to become immersed in the scene.
However, most people eventually leave the scene, because they realize they never use any of the cool programs. And the new people in the scene are just greedy and selfish. Then they move on to loftier anti-establishment movements.
