  1. Why doesn't my graphics card work? on When Users Attack · · Score: 1

Reminds of when my Biology teacher asked me to take a look at his computer -- he'd bought a new graphics card and now it wouldn't work. I opened it up and what do you know?! The poor guy had just thrown the graphics card in, not placing it in the AGP-connector. My maths teacher goot a good laugh from that one...

But since can't possibly cover his eyes with sensors You'll still have to spots of him in the way. Just like in Quake deathmatches - must be the same technique.

  3. Sorry to bring it up, but there are options on Microsoft News Update · · Score: 1

I have a twitch in my fingers urging me to point out the MPlayer available for most unicies can play more or less any video-format when configured correctly. Obviously this isn't going to make you switch to GNU/Linux, but I'm telling you it's worth checking out when you regain your computer freedom.

Agreed that I am on a 450 Mhz P3 with 128 RAM but still, there are no problems in resources.

I'm only reacting to the comment about blender beeing crap, not comparing how much of a Good Thing it might be to give money to open blender vs. feeding mr. Larry and friends (previously referred to as "the camel" (I did not know you where arabian, nor does it matter to me)). Sure blender may not be "better" than some of the BIG ones (3DSMAX, Maya etc) - but concidering it was previously given away free it's quite a descent package.

I don't think it would be worth a rats arse to have stuff like old SNES-games opened, nor some of the other wild suggestions made. But the fact is that there are no "good" free/open 3Dpackages and therefore it might be a descent idea. Opening WordPerfect would not be very usefull since there's already Abi,OpenOffice,KOffice etc. right?

  5. Re:...and accomplish what? on Blender Fund Raises EUR18,000 In Three Days · · Score: 1

Of course nothing much happens with the code for Quake I or Doom II (is that out?). Since those still playing quake1 probably do it for the retro or just for the everlasting deathmatch (i.e. NOT playing single or making new fantastic levels) there's really no reason to re-make it. But there IS some quake1-project at sourceforge which I suppose fixes bugs or something. Blender, on the other hand, actually has an active user base that want's the application to evolve/improve. in short. Quakers want the game to NOT change, blenders WANT the app to change/improve.

Don't encourage those who make crappy commercial stuff!!!!

Most commercial software may be crappy in some way or another (er. licencing. er), but I'd hardly call Blender crap. Go feed the camel.

I agree with you. I was in this exact position - a very descent windows-user (i.e. the one everyone asked), but couldn't get linux (GNU/Linux) to work for me. First time I tried is Corel - no, couldn't do anything. After that it was some old slack - nope. Since I loved the GIMP I really wanted to get a GNU/Linux system - so I ordered a book. Not I'm running Mandrake and slack8.1 should be dropping in any time now. The bottom line is it's impossible to get anything to work if you don't have a friend or a book (the same applies to Windows I suppose, but all your friends know EvilOS)

  8. Mom's aren't always good with computers on Is There Such a Thing as "Too User Friendly"? · · Score: 1

I'd be mean to my mom too if she asked me how to copy-paste, but fortunately she never asks. She has one of our old PCs and all she does is play solitaire. I concidered installing Mandrake since there are so many more games of solitare bundled - free (!beer). But my mom only knows how to turn the computer on, play, and then turn it off again - she COULD learn that the foot is equiv to the swinstika, but WOULD she? Just like I hear what she tells me about the washing-machine I didn't ever listen until I had to use it for myself (because I didn't give a shit). The point is, give your mom a break - but if she doesn't get IT after so and so many times, please be evil unto her.
