As the professors at my school like to point out, you're paying for the education. If you choose not to take advantage, you're throwing your money away. But it's your choice.
Except that a computer is a necessity for most. I know it is at my college.
OT: It's such a necessity that we are required to purchase a laptop. To answer the question of the original post, all students buy the same laptop through the school
I know I bought the top of the line(2 months ago) ATI Radeon 9700 Pro solely for gaming. I don't know any windows apps that are 3D, except maybe some 3D graphics and animation programs. And that market has a lot of money too...

I had a roommate that owns a.com domain name. The only spam he gets are these "buy our list" spams. Plus, the list boasted several billion addresses claiming they were all verified. Seems the spammers lie even to each other... No honor amongst thieves I guess.

But censorship is wrong, and I would rather deal with spam than have a system of controls in place based on content.
I too am rather concerned with the filters some ISPs use. I would rather get 70 spam messages a day than not get the ONE that I wanted because it fit the filters requirements as spam. I've had legitimate newsletters that I double-opted-in for blocked as spam. That's unacceptable!

Spam is a business because there are actually people out there that fall for this crap!
I maintain that if the general public would just wise-up, spam would go away rather quickly. The article points out that he gets 3% response. If it was 0%, we would be out of business. It's that simple.
So the solution is this: Educate those less computer-wise around you to NEVER respond to a spam e-mail. And definitely don't give them money!
Now I am in general for the protection of civil liberties. However, the statement against authority is Un-American. I agree with this legislation, but unfortunately, it does not go far enough. Content such as that should be banned, including the retroactive games.
Holy crap that's the most un-American paragraph I've ever read!
America was founded by going against authority, and not just in a video game. And how can any American say that censorship is good. Hello? Ever heard of the Bill of Rights? Isn't free speech the first right?? The only restriction is when speech endangers lives or interferes with others' rights. No media/entertainment does either of those.
Conversely, guns are hardly any remote form of artistic expression...
I beg to differ. Haven't you see the guy that uses a rifle to make a picture. He shoots holes through a sheet of metal to make a face. I don't have a link... it was on TV.
It's the opinion that video games make children violent that has no evidence.
For example, I ran across an article at BBC news that video games are actually "good for you". The article is here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/2744449.stm
The only children that will lose grasp of reality are those that never had it.
Of course, even if they're mathematically proven "strong", it doesn't mean that it won't be broken tomorrow. Your security relies on the hope that no one will find a faster way to solve the discrete log problem(RSA) or worst yet, find a flaw in the design that enables linear-time decode. It's really just luck... or maybe reliance on the lack of ingenuity of man(which I wouldn't rely on).
Looks like it to me but IANTCJOTUSSC.
That has to be the longest "acronym" I've ever seen. I just can't figure out exactly what it stands for. "I Am Not The County Judge Of Tennesse University's South Southeast Campus"?

Uhh, which 'we' are you talking about there, chief? World != USA, Internet != USA
This actually makes me wonder... What percentage of the Internet is "american"? Last time I checked, the US had the largest population online.
As far as the world equaling US, I'd be curious how much of the world's capital(value) is American owned/controlled. Anyone know(have a source)?

Hey, my company's firewall blocks it too. Suckage... I wonder if our companies are using the same stuff. Or *gasp* do we work at the same company??
