I don't know about you, but if I were planning to change energy policy, I would probably meet with the largest names in the energy business to try getting their perspective.
Imagine this:
Bush changes energy policy and causes a massive economic disaster. Thousands of energy workers, union men all lose their jobs. Later is it discovered that he didn't consult with anyone from the industry to research and discuss his policy changes. Imagine the uproar from the liberals and the media criticizing him for that.
Clinton met with industry people, Bush #1 did, Reagan did, (Carter met with the French to dream about socialism), Ford, Nixon, Johnson, Kennedy.. all met with industry people to discuss policies for those industries.
I am perfectly well aware of how prestigious it is.
Nonetheless, brilliant people can have character flaws, personal agendas, and biases. Often they have more. Look at the incredible scientific dishonesty shown by Mann's famous global warming study. The man made up his data. I repeat, he made it up. (This is called lying by most people.)
MY GOD PEOPLE. You are criticizing the Bush Administration for being stupid and you can't even spell the words "controversial" or "doctering." "Your" in the context of your subject line should be "You're", which is a contraction for "You are." "Administration" beings with a vowel, and should therefore be preceded with the antecedent "an" not "a."
If you are going to throw intellectual stones, make sure your brain isn't living in a glass skull.
I love Slashdot. A bunch of illiterate, reactionary, left-wing nutcases hurling insults at people smarter and more successful than they are.
Scientists are some of the biggest liars in the world. They are like lemmings, and once the pack starts to move one way, they never QUESTION THE ASSUMPTIONS, and they all follow.
Bush may be very well guilty as charged, but 20 nobel laureates? Big deal. They can choose WHICH scientific "facts" they use to justify themselves.
I had a great teacher who once said, "Intellectuals can rationalize anything."
Come on people. It is called "supply and demand". If the U.S. government protects domestic jobs by making outsourcing illegal or expensive, then U.S. companies will NOT be able to compete with European and Asian companies, and everyone loses their jobs.
$60k out of school is ridiculous in the first place. The Internet boom completely inflated job valuations and made CS majors think they were somehow entitled to those ridiculous salaries. I have said this before: PROGRAMMING IS FRIGGING EASY.
I can remember my mother telling me that I should be earning $120k a year because her friend's daughter got that fresh out of school as a programmer. Well, I'm still employed, and that girl is now a waitress.
Unnatural global warming, caused by man, is absolutely deniable. The few real major studies that support it have been utterly destroyed by a reanalysis of their data. In particular the famous Mann study has been completely repudiated.
Global warming is natural, and there is no causal link YET to mankind's activities. I won't bother adding links to sources that back this up. Use google.
The problem with environmentalists is that they don't let real science get in the way of their religion.
He is worse in person than portrayed here. Arrogant, smug, obnoxious, unrepentant.
Took plenty of digs at Microsoft. One could argue they are both evil, but I suspect Larry is not so much against Bill Gates as jealous of him. Imagine Larry with Bill's monopoly...
If I wasn't an "Oracle Certified Professional" I'd probably badmouth his RDBMS as well... but I need to protect my marketability.
I am not kidding here. This woman had to wait six months and by then it was too late. I knew her personally and am very close with her sister. I WATCHED HER DIE. This family was native Canadian, and their parents still live there. My friend and her husband a bigwig doctor moved to the U.S. because he was so disgusted with the health care system.
Call bulls**t all you want, but this is very personal to me and you are wrong.
Did you just send me a link to NPR as proof of your assertions? Why not send me a link to Al Jazeera? I won't even consider ANYTHING out of that lying pile of pud as worth reading. They are so blatantly partisan I'm amazed they don't just declare themselves marxists and declare a revolution.
There is a difference between stating that Iraq has ties to Al Qaeda-- which it does-- and stating that they planned Sept 11.
Anyone can play with quotations and infer things from them. The fact is Bush said quite clearly in his State of the Union Speech that there were no links between 9/11 and Iraq.
Polls are completely useless. The answers can be manipulated simply by changing the wording of the questions.
Virtually no Americans (Canadians maybe?) believe Hussein planned the 9/11 attack. We are not stupid.
Bush never said that. He never implied it. What he said was Saddam Hussein supports terrorists, including Al Qaeda. That is a fact. He said Hussein refused to demonstrate he had destroyed WMD's. That is a fact even asserted by the U.N. Go READ Bush's speeches again-- I have.
If people want to infer something that was never implied, that is an issue for them and their respective psychiatrists.
One of my best friend's sister, a lady I knew quite well, DIED waiting for an appointment with a cancer specialist up there. SIX MONTH WAIT, she died before she even got examined. After the autopsy they realized she would have lived if they had examined her sooner, because she didn't have cancer, she had a treatable stomach problem.
Her husband, a medical DOCTOR and senior member your government health care agency (I forget what it is called) got so fed up with the health care system he moved to the U.S.A. to practice medicine.
Don't brag about your health care system. It kills people.
Duh.... you can't just pull it all out of the ground at once and sell it. There is not enough demand. The rate at which Iraq produced oil BEFORE the first Gulf War (the rate set by Opec) would not pay for our troops if you produced at that rate for a decade.
All modern terrorism is the result of U.S. foreign policy? What a ridiculous statement. Terrorism is a result of ignorance, poverty, and manipulation by self-interested powermongers and idealogical wackos. What does U.S. foreign policy have to do with Basque terrorism in Spain, for example? Can you somehow stretch your hatred of America to blame them for that? I suppose we are causing the inter-tribal bloodshed throughout Africa?
The war is not illegal. Congress voted overwhelmingly to give the President the authority to attack Iraq. When some moronic congressman took the matter to the Supreme Court using the same argument you have made, the Supreme Court RULED (I believe seven to two) that the war was legal.
Futher, if Saddam violated the terms of the cease-fire in Gulf War I, which he did for over a decade, then we are still at war.
Never proven. Also, many others in that administration with nothing to lose by telling the truth have denied any weapons sales were ever made. That does NOT mean the U.S. didn't foolishly provide other assistance-- which you refer to in your post.
For example, Richard Perle-- well known to people who follow foreign policy-- explicitly states NO WEAPONS were ever sold to Iraq.
I don't know about you, but if I were planning to change energy policy, I would probably meet with the largest names in the energy business to try getting their perspective.

My goodness. If you are going to criticize, try using a spell-checker. You mispelled the same words repeatedly, therefore they are not typos.

Astrophysics student? How did you graduate from high school? You must be educated by these same academics.

UIUC is a great Computer Science school. I would be quite surprised if they would put their name on something that lacked quality.

Ditto. Speakeasy absolutely rules. The BEST tech support I have ever gotten from any tech company ever.
Great company. The best people. I pay a little more $$ than most for it, but it is worth every penny.
"Looks like the "liberal media" conviently neglected to warn us about this. Gee, I wonder why."
The question of whether they are liberal (they are) doesn't indicate whether they are smart (they aren't).
I had a political science instructor once who said:
"Reporters, in an effort to appear unbiased, deliberately remain as utterly ignorant of everything else in the world as possible."
Truer words were never spoken. The vast majority (99.99%) of reporters are morons.

You don't need a tin foil hat-- you need a tin foil body suit.
Nice insult.
Al Qaeda might claim to be enemies with Hussein, but the reality is they have had numerous contacts and been funded and trained by Iraq for years.
"The enemy of my enemy is my friend."
Once the intelligence from Iraq starts pouring out and you will eat your words.

Socialized health care? HAH!

It doesn't matter how much is in the GROUND, it matters how much they get OUT of the ground each year.
Sheesh.
Who modded this insightful?

Outstanding and very interesting.
Iraq had the third largest standing army in 1991, not the fifteenth. Try reading history before commenting on it.
