Being a female slashdot reader, I thought I might offer my opinion here . . . If you're going to make a generalization like that, you need to take into account the particular woman.
If you want to have sex with a nice, intelligent woman, you'd better show her some respect. You'll also have a lot better luck if you don't go after her thinking "I want to have sex with this girl, so I'll be nice to her so she'll sleep with me."
If you want to have sex with a "cheap whore"-type woman, then as long as you're cute she'll probably sleep with you. I doubt this is the type of woman you want.
So basically if you just want sex, and you don't care who it's with, then any method will work (you might as well just hire a prostitute . . . ). On the other hand, if you want a relationship (that will likely include lots of sex) then you need to change your attitude.
A very large portion of Buffy's fanbase is straight women, like myself. I can guarantee you that it doesn't get me "hot and bothered," so that's obviously not the reason I'm watching it. It's entertaining and can have a dramatic episode that keeps you laughing the whole time. One of my favorite lines from the series is actually from the first season, where they're getting ready to make some new stakes and other weapons, and Xander says " . . . and while I whittle, I plan to whistle a jaunty tune!" Admittedly, Buffy's brand of humor isn't for everyone, but if it's the kind of thing you like, it's great.
