    Try reading the article slowly and move your lips as you read... sometimes it helps.
    The car did not catch fire.
    Some of the batteries were separated from the car and caught fire:
    The crash left the Tesla in pieces strewn over 150 yards, requiring firefighters to douse multiple fires caused by small batteries and magnesium, Reith said in a news release.

    The real news reports attribute the deaths to hitting a tree at a high rate of speed. The car didn't catch fire.
    Hard to fix stupid.

    Unfortunately, nuclear power is the most expensive electricity. High cost, long lead times, unresolved problems with design and waste. Not a good option. Nuclear only gets built with massive subsidies and public liability for cleanup and accidents.
    Wind and solar are cheaper and cleaner.

    At the recent Climate Change Conference in Marrakesh, 43 of the developing nations most threatened by climate change – who together form the Climate Vulnerable Forum – committed to transitioning to 100% Renewable Energy.
    Don't know how many of these are using coal now but they certainly won't be adding coal and will be phasing it out what they have.

    "Defense" is really just an elaborate ruse to transfer money from taxpayers to corporations.
    This project is the epitome of overpriced absurdity. I'm sure all the contractors got rich from it... and they don't really care if it actually works.

    A few months ago I needed to go to the local DMV and used Google to look up their hours. It gave me a nice chart showing wait times for each day of the week and time of day.

    People!
    The trees are in the mountains and depend on natural rain and snowfall. No irrigation at all there. If it doesn't rain or snow, they don't get water.
    What happens to the water once it gets to the valley is irrelevant.

    Most of the water to produce beef in CA goes to irrigate fields of forage (hay, alfalfa, etc.) for cows. It all evaporates.
    CA also exports hay to China for their cows.

    Fracking and oil well injection seems to have made the "geologically stable" midwest a thing of the past. Lots of earthquakes there now.

    Yes, we do have a lot of surplus salvage lumber right now... keeps lumber prices low for now... not sure about the future, though.

    And the cows... lots of cows.
    It takes more than 2,400 gallons of water to produce just 1 pound of meat. Only 25 gallons of water are required to grow 1 pound of wheat. You can save more water by not eating a pound of meat than you can by not showering for six months!
    We even grow hay and corn to send to China for their cows.

    You can run Windows under Linux using Virtual Box on the Chromebook.
    No speed penalty because Linux is native on the Chromebook.

    Look into a Chromebook. You can get them with various levels of performance (from ARM machines to Intel processors). They all seem to have good battery life (10+ hours).
    The best part is that since ChromeOS is Linux at the core, you can install a full Linux distribution using Crouton and switch between the two with just a hotkey.

  25. After you've driven a Tesla (with no transmission or clutch) you'll realize what a kludge it is to have all that machinery whizzing around attempting to match the limited torque range of an ICE engine to the wheels. Rube Goldberg made simple things in comparison.
    EVs are so much less complex.
