tabbed browsing is now just an annoyance thanks to expose..
I use tabbed browsing and Expose (and Desktop Manager) and your comment made no more sense to me than someone saying "loud dogs are now just annoyance thanks to my new wrist-watch".
Interesting. So what would stop Congress passing laws to make political dissent illegal: the courts then get to interpret free speech as you suggest...?
Well I'm still waiting for my dealer to get some in stock so I can buy a couple (I have a single storey home that wanders, uhm, well you know what I mean).
Anyway, back on topic, I never really understood why Apple felt the need to encrypt it in the first place. I mean, what next, B&O encrypting the output to speakers? Sony insisting their systems will only work with encrypted mains voltage that you certify has not been used to power any unauthorised (by the RIAA and MPAA) devices?
The employee, herein after known as the "code monkey" shall, at their own expense, take such measures as are necessary to ensure their dopamine receoptors are suppressed. Failure to take such action and to be in the office with unsuppressed receptors shall be deemed, at the company's discretion, as gross misconduct and subject to summary dismissal without notice.
Not really. Multi-gigabyte solid-state CF cards are dirt cheap now. I bought one in Singapore for about S$300.
A 1 gig CF card in my Nikon D70 takes around 600 6.1mp pictures at high quality (low compression). Even the way I take photos (same shot many times on multiple settings) I struggle to fill a 1gig card in a day. With PNG of course I wouldn't be able to fit as many: but certainly enough and give it a short time and 4 and 10gig CF cards will be cheap. (But you're better off buying several smaller ones: less to lose if you accidentally format one, or one goes bad and they smaller cards are cheaper per mb).
I wonder what your excuse is for being an idiot. At least teenagers have the excuse that they're brains aren't finished yet (as I explained in my post- did you bother to read it?)
Would you imprison a two year old for, well, anything? Why not? Of course because they are incapable of realising that if they stick a hairpin into a power outlet (ie "investigating their world" aka "trying shit out") they might start a fire that burns down their house.
Similarly teenagers are literally incapable of realising that there are consequences to their actions- the part of the brain required to do so simply does not develop until they are in their early twenties. Simple.Scientific.Fact. They might look like adults but they do not think like adults.
Now, how about this lynch mob turn around and go home.
Now come on, that's not really a valid reason to send people to jail is it? If it were they'd be full of old grannies that take to long to cross the road.
18 year olds are literally incapable of understanding the consequences of their actions. Literally. The problem is that they look an awful lot like us adults despite the fact that they incapable of thinking as adults. See here for details or do a Google on something like "teenage brain research"; it's pretty recent and the law hasn't even begun to catch up.
*shrug* if they're dumb enough to work for free that's their fault. I get paid over $100K and I absolutely do not work overtime, ever, under any circumstances. If it looks like any of my developers are going to I send them home: sit at home, in comfort and read a good technical book on the subject if you must. I do, I even do that on holiday (as an aside: I was pleasantly suprised that I could get free wireless internet connection on my Powerbook in my Thai hotel, especially as I wasn't staying in Bangkok).
If there's too much work then work gets cut, prioritised, we recruit more people or we *shock* *horror* reduce quality. But the best thing I've find is to qualify what the user/customer *actually* needs as opposed to the phantom requirements we often get fed by the middlemen.
Fixing hardware that fails in the middle of the night gets done by people who are paid extra to be on call.
How do I manage this miracle? I tell my employers at interview that I do not work over time and that I value my family time. If they look shocked (which is generally only the consultant jobs) then I say "I don't think this job is for me".
How do I ever get a job? By demonstrating that I add much more value than some monkey that might put in the hours but still produce crap: I cite articles I've written (and have been published) over the last 16 years; I bring along examples of how I show "thought leadership" (don't you love that PHB speak) and, where possible, which succesful projects I've been responsible for. (Fortunately having worked in the public sector I can easily point to particular Government sites and say: "look at that, I made that".)
you sir, are lost if you think an 18 yr. old that knows how to code (sorta) and re-used known virus code to make another virus, is "lacking the moral logic to recognize what he was doing is wrong".
Uhm actually recent brain research has shown that teenagers are *incapable* of realising that there are consequences to their actions- the connections between the left and right side of the brains required to make that link simply do not develop until they are in their early twenties.
Here's an article that describes it in more detail.
The Reg has the correct story. In short, it was deliberately done by the developers of Mosquito as a crappy kind of copy protection: copy our software and we'll send SMS messages to premium rate numbers. Now someone tell me this isn't illegal...
THIS POSTING IS IN NO WAY ASSOCIATED WITH SLASHDOT NOR BOISCOUT'S POSTING, NOR IS IT AN ATTACK ON Mr BOISCOUT NOR DOES IT SEEK COMMERCIAL GAIN THROUGH ANY SUCH ASSOCIATION.
Buy my book here that explains why boisscout is oh so wrong. All proceeds to my personal bank account.

Did you read the article or look at the Google cache of the site before posting? Silly question I guess. The judge took the defendents *intent* (which was clearly to attack Falwell) into account. It wasn't just the fact that the spelling was similar: it was the reason behind the site owner choosing the name (it's wasn't his, nor anything he had any reason to pick other than to attack the real guy) **AND** he was using it for commercial gain off the back of Jerry Falwell's name.
See: knowing some facts does help before making a judgement.
You sure that's true? I thought porn' was protected as free speech in the US. (Bizarre really as I have to wonder how those women can say anything: they always seem to have their mouths full.)
Uhm no. Falwell.com's name was chosen to deliberately associate with and attack Jerry Falwell. Are you trying to say Jerry Falwell's parents chose his name to attack Ben and Jerry's?
Yeah I know this is slash dot but you could try putting your brain in gear before posting.
More fool you for feeding the trolls. But, hey it's only Karma: I have loads and I'd ship you a couple of points if it was possible ;-)

Yes but those are magic PowerPC MHz: far superior to nasty old Intel MHz.
Dual processing on a G5 since 2003 ;-) (Did I mention I also have a 23" widescreen: it impresses the ladies.)
The point is in this regard they are no longer "healthy".
Why would a monkey need four small pony-like creatures? Or did you mean four ancient roman coins?
The word you are looking for is ARSE you ass !

Uhm, no. Software patents are wrong full stop.
A better solution would be for the EFF to start a "prior-art" portfolio to help kill patents.
Huh? Oh well, here goes...
When a mummy and a daddy love each other very mucht they get very close to each other...

I have Excellent Karma already, thanks but I have enough :-)
Good lord what a great piece of hair-splitting.
I think you'll find the correct answer is: the court's are not above the law, nor are they above the Constitution.
To put it succinctly consider: who defines what free speech is?
The issue was the domain name NOT the content.

Hmm maybe the mod' accidentally selected the wrong category on the drop down. Ok I'll take whatever I can get.
