    ...which company was it that has decided to focus on the enterprise market? They can't make it pay so they're going to muddy the water for all their former competitors, I thought more of RedHat this is more like Redmond FUDish behaviour. With it's new found direction, RedHat seems to have lost its honour.

    Competency has little to do with it, likewise disk space. To download, read and digest the documentation, make sure latest patches have been applied, configure and compile software which I have no other use for, to me, is plain stupidity. You obviously think other wise, I wish I had that much time to spare, you're a lucky individual if you do. Thank you for sharing your thoughts with me.

    If you run a tight system, every package is a burdon, and a quantifiable risk. I don't want have to keep track of any more patches than I need to.

    Agreed, and why Python, I don't even have that installed on my home system, nor do I much want to, I mostly use Perl, I'm not saying one is better than the other of course.

    Have you considered the heat generated by the large electric motors these systems use? All cooling systems are fairly inefficient and therefor end up being a net heat generator. So you could say that the haves are making life worse for the have-nots. I could argue the ethics of this but it would probably be marked -1 Troll.

    I was in China a few months ago and though I was only using internet cafes I couldn't get BBC News nor CNN and other similar western 'news' sites. Has this changed or are there different rules for private connections?

    I own a large number of O'Reilly books and on the whole I think they're great, but I'm loathed to buy books when they include alot of material that I'm not interested in .NET VB Java etc. I'm sure it works the other way too, a MS developer probably doesn't give a monkeys about awk or python, so why do they have to devote whole chapters to stuff you're not likely to use? Waste of paper of paper & money methinks.

    Simple example of default copy & paste.
    • Windows: Left click, drag, right click, left click, right click, left click.
    • Linux: Left click, drag, middle click.

    I make that 6 movements in Windows and 3 in Linux, that makes the Linux desktop twice as productive as the Windows desktop. Are there any other misguided and ill informed comments you wish to make?

    that the company that perpetually promises to make everyones computer more secure still ships Outlook Express, probably the most insecure software product ever released, I would have written sold there but I believe they give it away; how unamerican, but then again how could they possibly justify charging for it.
