...different from the more confusing but more familiar "maybe here, maybe there, depends on the app" file schema of Windows.
Well, in Linux/Unix I'd say that the above statement would be "maybe here, maybe there, depends on the distro"... 8)
I'm running RH because it's a pretty good beginners system as far as I can understand (RPMs and stuff) but as soon as I log into one of the servers I use on the net or install stuff from source (designed for other distros) I get all confused. Sometimes things go in/var/lib sometimes in/usr/bin sometimes in/home/blah...
I really don't like to toot my own horn but over at Unreal Nation we're running a small poll to see if there's any interest in having Unreal ported to Linux.
If more and more developers start making their games available for Linux it makes the hardware developers more interested in supporting Linux as well. Hopefully a win-win situation for the user.
People cry "LINUX!" when they want to say something bad against MS.
I agree. I started using Linux because I was tired of Windows98 and all the problems it has. (Since I work a lot with multimedia, web and games I have to wait another 6 months or so before Linux becomes a viable solution though.)
What's kinda sad to see is that a lot of people jump on the Linux bandwagon just because A) they think it's cool to fool around with Linux but they really don't know what it is and why it exists or B) they want to show the world that Micro$haft (note the k3wl spelling) is the devil in one way or another.
This is the wrong reason to support/use Linux IMHO. One should use Linux because of all it's merits, not because Bill Gates makes more money than a small country.
We're using big HDD's here (2x9Gb) on a Linux box. Here's the pros and cons that I've found with this approach: + It's fast + It can handle multiple reads at once + Good price/performance ratio + Easy setup - Takes a lot of time to copy all the CD's to the HDD's the first time
IMHO, the HDD setup is a better way to go unless you need to change CD's too often.
... go read Misantropic Bitch's take on TBWP. I just hope that the movie makes it's way to Europe so I can make up my own mind.
