    Let's see:
    CD - 3 formats (CD, CD-R, CD-RW)
    DVD - 6 formats (DVD, DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD+R, DVD+RW, DVD-RAM)
    A simple extrapolation means we have to expect 9 formats for the blue ray disk.

    it's another thing to support the upcoming NextGen hyper-DRM'ed Longhorn crap that will be pushed hard at the workstation level, thereby making it hard(er) to adopt *nix.

    That depends on how much Linux is then used in the servers. Making Longhorn clients incompatible to Linux servers may well have the effect of making it harder to adopt Longhorn if Linux servers are common enough then. That is, a Longhorn incompatibility strategy can only work if MS already has enough server market share at that time.

    Well, that was only so that the spectral analyzers could determine if there was some poison in your ice, so they could warn you in that case. You see, it was only to your best.

    There was a cop, somewhere, that had decided that a tall american eating a scoop of chocolate was a threat of some sort.

    Well, it was certainly a threat to the scoop of chocolate.

    A british woman we were talking with said, "Don't look at the cameras, they don't like that."

    Well, you know, cameras are very sensible, and they don't like if they are watched. Well, apparently you don't like it either, so how could you blame the camera for it?

    Fortunately, in America we take liberties a bit more seriously.

    While I can see us heading in the same direction as the UK (red light cameras, especially, are springing up everywhere) at least for now an attempt to go in the same direction would cause rioting by people from both the left and the right.

    Which would, of course, proof that the cameras are a must: After all, how could those riots be caught otherwise?

    I am amazed the British people tolerate it at all.

    Well, you know, if they opposed other's cameras, they might have to remove their own ...

    Well, if a Tivo has the same effect as a VCR, it makes you actually watch less. Because, after all, you have it on tape, so you can always just watch it at a later time ... at least that's my experience.

    No, read again: They decided on how to implement it. Given that there are many different ways to implement a bit (bits on your hard disk are implemented completely different from CD-ROM bits, DRAM bits or register bits), it's not surprising that they needed that long.

    Currently they are arguing about the best implementation of the next significant bit.

    I guess such default settings are exactly one point of branded versions. You can default-configure the browser to your own likings. This includes both things your users will like (which is good for you since it attracts more users), and things which give you an advantage (like, having the default search engine be set to you, which only is an advantage for your user if your search engine is the best :-)).

    Of course, you could also use dirty tricks like delivering adblocker configured to be effective except on your own pages ...

    In other words, Netscape is Netscape's grandfather, Netscape's grandgrandfather, Netscapes uncle, and of course the reverse relations as well. Somhow reminds me to a German song: "Mein Opa, das bin ich" ("My grandpa, that's me") :-)

    And of course, even if you would make an image with Hubble, the conspiracy theorists would probably claim that you faked it. After all, how do you proof that it's really an image taken by Hubble?
