Look its been 25 years if Glenn A. Larson could have got away with the mini series on ABC back then he would have. My god people it rocked. I personally would not have watched 4 hrs of the orignial series today. It has about as much appeal as a bad british documentary(and dont get me wrong I saw the movie in a theater and watched every episode evan all those BSG 1980 are what ever that was).
As both a manager and a coder i agree. I am 35 when i was younger i could code for hours on end with out a break do it faster and better than i can now. I have found this to be true with most people. However this dose not mean I cant get more done in a day now than i could 15 years ago. 15 year ago i did not have a code libary or exp to draw on every thing i did i had to write then and there. Now i have 15 years of exp and code to go back to so when i need a rutine to do something odds are have already done it once before or i have some peice of code that i can modify to do what i need.
Bottom line the brain does work better when younger.
I had a fortran pro. in collage tell me the this ther are to kinds of programes. Coders and programers. Coders are just that they can right code but could not figure out how to get out of a box with 3 sides missing. Programmers are the ones you give the problem to sole to.
If linux is going to make it on the desk top it needs to present a single consistant user interface. Those of us that know how to tweek the crap out it can remove the rh RPMs and go intstall what ever on it our selfs. We loose nothing we gain everything. RH is doing the right thing those of you who are bitiching about this forced spoon fed aproach are not the ones paying the bills at RH. The linux community needs a consitant product that every one knows, the lack of this is what almost killed unix in the fisrt place. These comapnies need lots of sales to stay in bussiness and those must come form the end users out there the non geeks, and as a geek myself i find linux frustrating at times. There is little or no descent documentation(yes i know man, howtos tldp... THEY ALL ARE AWFULL). in order for linux to have descant sales you mother has to be able to sit down and get it connected to a dialup conection with out help. Your mother all so needs to be able to down load cute junkware from the internet and have it work. Now imagine trying to have your mother untar, then./configure make make install somthing only to tell her that it could not link agaisnt symbols in lpng.34.23.so are something like that. How many rpms actually work maby half intalls with out some kinda depencencay problems. Or how about this try to get you mom to un pack a simple game say tar -xzvf lbreakout2-2.3.2.tar.gz only to find its a bunch of files with wierd names and nothing called setup.exe with a little luck she may figure out how to make it compile but probally not. Linux will suffer a slow and agonizeing death at the hands of Bill Gates unless thinks like this dont happen.
I have to deal with MS software and servers all day long and they suck. However while i do not like what MS intentions with xbox are(ie dominate yet a another market) i do think the xbox is a fantastic little box. If you are running linux on it just to say you can do it great. But dont think that it is hurting them, your are doing for more to help MS then Bill could ever hope to buy. Free publicity! The best way to fight MS is to deny them existance. How many of these are going to get converted world wide a few hundred maby a 1000 tops. Bill spends that kinda of money on breakfest. Stop kidding your self people you are helpping him not hurtung him.
I work and design NOC for CLECs, there are several type of T1s first type is Standard T1 where you get all 24/64k channes, 2nd type Fractional T1 this is where you get all 24 chanels but you are caped at band with, 3rd(and these you have to watch out for cause they get expensive this is also what the big guys like to sell) Fractional Burstable T1, This is a soft cap on bandwith but will meter any thing you go over. 4th is a split data voice T1 dont see these much any more. Any way if you have a T1 it is proabally a T1 however you have to watch out for how they charge you band with and things like that. Another issue to wacth out for is local loop fee. And IP allocation fees.
