  1. Rebroadcast on Getting Your News as MP3s? · · Score: 0

I cary a 3.5" mini cd full of diagnostics programs for winblows, because god knows you need them when dealing with windows and windows users. Here is a list of what's on the disc. First of all it's a basic MS-DOS bootable disk with all the functionality of a regular MS-DOS boot CD (fdisk, format, edit, etc) and a few utilities such as
    Fresh Diagnose
    VNC server and viewer
    NessusWX
Fresh Diagnose is an excellent benchmark/testing utility.
VNC is for accessing remote desktops (Great for lazy people such as myself)
NessusWX is a windows interface for Nessus security scanner. A must for checking default installations of any OS.
All the extra utilites are freeware. MS-DOS is of course copyrighted.

I agree that a dreamcast is a stupid idea. It's bulky and relatively expensive, plus it needs to be modded. I did something similar to this to prove to a company I do work for that their network is easy to hack from the inside. I used my Palm m505 with ethernet adapter, running linux with a packet sniffer hat constantly logged traffic over 1 specific cat 5 cable. The great thing aout it was I was able to hide it within a vent. So no one stole my palm to give to their kids.

  4. Here's an idea on Automatic Functional Testing for Mac and Linux? · · Score: 0

If you're already using winblows, to test X apps, just VNC to the application you want, and then run the stress test on the VNC session. All mouse clicks and keypresses will be performed on the remote computer. That way you can use the same program across platforms, instead of figuring out a seperate application for each OS you test.
You can also reverse this process if you'd rather use your linux box to test winblows.

In my search I found the Panasoc Toughbook, which is made specifically for extreme conditions.

Also, look into downgrading the processors. If you only need an MP3 player, any pentium class will do, and with cooling modifications meant for todays CPU's you will never have a problem with overheating.

Yes it is possible, and without using a horrible excuse for an operating system such as windows. This is possible with any video card that has dual outputs. Also if you have two desktops with it's own monitor, look into x2vnc.

  9. Follow up on VNC on Dynamic GUI Window Redirection? · · Score: 0

As a follow up on my earlier post, it seems you may be slightly misguided as to what VNC can do on an X windows system. It is simple to serve a single window from VNC, you just add what you want to run in your ~/.vnc/xstartup script.

Ex. I have wine serving MS Word, with jus this in my xstartup

    #!/bin/bash
    wine office.exe

Simple as that. However the Windows version is not nearly as agile. That's due to the lack of hooks supported by windows' sub standard GUI. So if you want to use windows, you're gonna have to go with a sub standard application such as citrix. Be prepared to shell out.
