I disagree. While "elitists" do exist that wouldn't bother to tell you how to set your system time exist, my experience is that most of us geeks do a great deal of charity work for our schools, friends, and families. It's only when we're around lesser "elitist" windows geeks that we turn super-elitist.:)
would be beneficial.. the user would have a difficult time of screwing up his OS if he can't write to it. A small HDD or a network fileserver would be needed to store data on, though.
Several Live CD distro's exist, such as demolinux, which has a version that comes with OpenOffice..
Score:4 Informative? This guy doesn't know wtf he is talking about.. POSIX environments offer multitudes of means for "centralized and efficient security policy administration" such as NIS and Kerberos to name two. If by "Currently, thats something that Unix just can't do, at least not on the same level as Windows can do it." you mean you can't double click everything and pretend to be a SysAdmin, then you are correct.
Actually a guy in Arizona bought A bridge, not the london bridge. And they didn't sell it to him because it was falling apart, they sold it to him because he was going to pay alot of money for a near worthless bridge.
I hate TurboLinux. It's the kind of distro that gives Linux a bad name when some Windows moron installs it and decides Linux sucks because TurboLinux sucks.
We put wireless on buildings where antennae's can't be visible from street level, so we just move our laser links out of LOS of the street. If this isn't an option, what about HPNA? I'm assuming there is already some sort of phone line backbone in each building..
I hated algebra, not because it was boring in itself, but because I had homework every damn night. Regardless of how well I understood the subject, it was required to do a crap load of redundant problems and you MUST show your work. Screw that, I'm not stupid, I don't need to work out 50 problems before I understand what's going on. Just give me the test and let's move on.
Won't the water inside the system cause water in the air outside to condensate and drip onto your system? I was told this was the case by my Operations and Maintenance professor in High School.
not profit.. if Lilo wants to make some money through donation maybe he should develop a USEFUL service. There's thousands of free IRC Servers run by good people with good intentions and not asking for a dime. OPN isn't anything special.. at all. Lilo asking for donations for running an IRC server is like me asking for donations for posting on slashdot.
There's not a whole lot of administration to perform after an IRC server is configured properly. I would gladly run an IRC server at even great expense to myself to have the usage that OPN gets. Because I have a job and make money elsewhere and can afford to do so. IRC is a hobby and a past time. It's for fun, not for profit.
Actually this has nothing to do with Linux. In fact, show me where Linux was mentioned as any sort of factor for this. No where. Not that Linux is 100% secure,.... only an idiot would believe any OS is inherently 100% secure.
The same method HAS been applied to cracking/ddos. You can't legislate anothercountry. The internet is an international medium, so the US can't stop spam by making it illegal. Just as they couldn't stop cracking/ddos. Spam Assassin is the best way to stop spam in it's tracks, but I think a Spam Assassin that actually assassinated spammers would be more effective.
Just another example of big business getting rich off of screwing people. But not as bad as MicroShaft, because not only do you have to pay for the ass ramming, but an additional fee is assessed each time they ram you.
this is a paraphrased excerpt from some random linux users rant on a newsgroup. I can't find it for the life of me, so this really shouldn't be quoted, but from memory this is how it went. "Corporate adoptance of Linux is the first step in the trickle down effect for Linux dominance. The masses of computer unsavvy windows "admnistrators" simply will not have the capacity to keep up with enterprise Linux admins, and the MCSE will become worthless [even more worthless than it is now?] Tens of thousands will be out of jobs and will be forced to find new careers, but tens of thousands of Linux users will now become the administrators of next generation enterprise computing. The developers of windows applications will be forced to contend with Open Source competetors and will find ways to profit in Linux development or fail miserably. These out of work developers will have to find new jobs as Linux developers, and applications will be scrutinized under public eye. Fatally flawed code (Such as MS's) will soil a company's name to the point where all software released for profit will be in near perfect condition. Finally the end users will adopt Linux as their OS of choice because of the advances made in Linux stemming from corporate acceptance" This has been riterated thousands of times in different context by Linux advocates over the years. But note the accuracy. At the time it was written an MCSE was basically a ticket to easy money. Now it's worthless. My company just made the Linux switch and I unfortunately saw a few of my really good friends lose their positions there and were replaced by Linux techs.
If 99.9% of the customers want it, then MS would have 99.9% of market share. it does not. It is more accurate for you to say that you are 99.9% dumbass. Then you'd only be.1% off...
Actually the developer sof the applications have to support MS's uninstall operation both during install and uninstall. Linux has several methods of cleaning up after itself, ie make uninstall, or if you are using a package manager dpkg abd rpm both remove programs quit cleanly.

VNC is the greatest remote administration suite to date IMHO, and is cross platform...

You know less than squat. Your "anecdotal evidence" just shows that you don't have many friends.
I want to go too! I want to be the first pot head geek in space. At least publicly :)
Chinese spam me much,
my mail is now useless.
time to smoke a joint.

since he only had 1 finger on his left hand. Needless to say he was quit the hunt and pecker :)

Yeah but sugarless sweetener sucks too. I ain't scared of no stinkin arcade game!
I'd like to see altered states on IMAX.. and on acid
This is the number one mistake I have with end users complaints. They have trouble with why MB != Mb And why 1 MegaByte != 1000 Kb.
On a western Digital 60 Gig (Not sure model number) ATA133 I sustained 7200 RPM
Read: 22.01MB/s
Write: 14.15 MB/s
This is about average for this type of drive I beleive.
