I'm sorry, but you are just flat out wrong. There is nothing worth destroying our freedoms over (especially the oldest ones codified in the Constitution).
I won't even talk about the "enemy combatants" which are still held in Guantanamo Bay. They are "enemy combatants", but somehow aren't Prisoners of War?
Actually, the science in that movie was pretty much dead-on. Remember, the book was written by Arthur C. Clarke, the guy who first described Geostationary Orbits in a sci-fi story before the first satellites were even launched.
Clarke took great pains to work out the science in his stories to be as real as possible.
"A group of Japanese researchers have proposed a Government plan to spend 50 billion yen per year (that's a quarter billion $US) for 30 years on developing a robot with capabilities of a 5-year-old. . . . Perhaps the U.S. Government should consider funding such a program over here?"
Isn't there an Amendment to some document somewhere that guarantees our rights to this, before and over-and-above anything a Corporation or Government entity thinks?
Too damned bad for the MPAA. Maybe the public has finally found the "killer-app" that will stop the flood of garbage coming out of the industry.
The "Celebration" package is currently in the Planning tree undergoing development. Following some enhancements and critical bug fixes it will be released to the Decorating tree while the community decides on a proper color for the paper bunting, and whether to tape, tack, or nail it to the wall or ceiling. Only then will it be released to the Party tree.
It should be ready some time in 2008, at which point the "Ano-15" package will be in the Planning tree.
[Centauri Alien 1] Dammit! My TV reception is shot again! Why is it about every four years all the TV and radio reception goes screwy, just in time for the Hyperbowl kickoff?
[Centauri Alien 2] Dunno man.. probably Alphaspots again. Don't worry about it and pass that Nyborg over here...
Does this mean that there may one day be the "temperate ocean" near the pole predicted by so many British naval explorers (many of whom are now British naval corpsicles)?
All Franklin needed to is freeze in for 140 more winters and he'd have been proven a hero! Of course, that scurvy *is* a bitch...
Saw this at the Nvidia(?) booth at LinuxWorld last week (Moscone Center, San Francisco). Funny.. more interesting than the droid I spent 10 seconds talking to...
Well, from what I've been reading, that ruling is still up in the air. The Charter case has not been fully decided.
Now if Bell wants to bring a case against Canadians, that's for the Canadian courts to deal with. Since DirecTV is a non-entity in Canada, they don't have a leg to stand on vis-a-vis bringing action against Canadian citizens.
The thing is, DirecTV is suing Canadian citizens and has, in fact, siezed property of said citizens (via the RCMP). These same Canadians are, were, and continue to be soley on Canadian soil.
DirecTV is suing Canadian citizens and attempting to disrupt information websites (presumably under the guise of the DMCA). What interesting about this is that DirecTV has no jurisdiction in Canada, as they have no presence there (they are not licensed to broadcast into Canada, which is what started this whole mess in the first place). Also, the DMCA does not apply to non-US citizens (although we've seen how well that's been applied in the Sklyarov case).
Right or wrong about the genesis of their actions (some folks really are intercepting DirecTV signal), DTV is just flat wrong about how they prosecute their case and need to be reigned back in.
And there is always a good lag between powers usurped by the Legislative branch and the reigning back in by the Judicial branch.
However, given the results of the Debacle of 2000, I don't expect much checking and balancing for a few more years.
Really.. Then show me the WMDs. We already know the "African Uranium" was a lie.
Oh.. I'm sorry.. you can't. And neither can the current Administration. I call that 200+ American GI lives worth of bad faith.
Try again.
You are one frightening right-wing son of a bitch. I can see we are getting dangerously close to invoking Godwin's Law.
Jose Padilla disagrees with you.
So does The Bill of Rights.

That site competes with "rotten.com" for "Most Vomit-Inspiring" photos.
Then again, both are popular with the "autopsy photo poker" set.
Let's see.. the first two posts were rabidly anti-linux, and were posted by AC's..
I therefore submit that Microsoft shills are actively trolling Slashdot.
Yeah, but Star-Bellied Sneetches are still superior.
In other words, they'll need to bribe the hell out of public officials.
Wow. If my comment rated a "3", this one rated a "33". Well done, mate!
"Hi, I'm your sense of humor. Have *we* met?"

It was LA. That was as clear a case of "profiling" as I've ever seen.
Oh man that movie sucked so much ass that I had, up until reading your post, blocked it from my mind.
Thanks for dredging up that painful memory.
Yeah, but then there would be no need for THX and the like, thereby destroying an entire movie-sound industry...

We did. We call him "Mr. President".
I thought "Floating Point" was the name of the Bush Administration's economic policy...

(and yes, I'm a die-hard Debian user)

There are plenty of people around here in Santa Cruz who grow their own businesses.
But that has nothing to do with computers....
