The way I understand that quote, it says:

The manufacturers have the option of allowing the users to have the option to turn off DRM.

Will it be beneficial for the PC makers to not allow this option? How many people in the general public would even know whether they had the option or not?

How can the parent possibly be modded as flame?

Offering an alternative to those who may not be aware the options is a decent thing to do. Especially that the line most given to people here who bitch about the gov is change things by how you vote. Is supporting another party flame??

I think we ought to make virus-protection code public and government funded. I know way too many people who can't afford 50 bucks on a virus scanner or decent firewall software in College, and I saw Nimda infections up until the end of last year. If people could get this type of thing for free - money that would ultimately ensure the safety of the net at large - I think it should be done.

I think this is a statement that alot of /. could learn from. It's amazing how many replies to peoples opinions are insults.

Apparently, the best way to have an intelligent conversation here and disagree with someone is to call them stupid, an idiot, or an hypocrite. Even more effective if combined with cuss words so as to gain mod points and make you appear "smart".

  8. Re:The "new" war. on ACLU Campaign Challenges Patriot Act · · Score: 1

This "new" war is the war on hatred

However, this "new" war has always been going on, but our gov has their heads up their ass too far to realize how they have to fight it.

The only way they can win this war is to stop pissing everyone off. Look at all the U.S. citizens that are pissed off. It's pretty obvious that alot of the world is pretty pissed at our gov, too.

Passing laws such as the Patriot Act just fuels this hatred. Possibly attacking Iraq also does this. Not to mention every other stance that the current admin has taken on global issues that only serve themselves, such as the environment.

As long as a large number of people have hate for the U.S. and their government, no law no matter how effective will win any war on terror or whatever you want to call it.

This is ridiculous for a descriptive word such as a nationality to be argued over in courts like this. Will Molson sue any canadian business owner who asserts proudly that his product is "Canadian"? Also, does this ruling give Molson rights to go after canadian.com and canadian.org?
