  1. Ironic that the decision would violate the ADA... on ADA Doesn't Apply to Web · · Score: 1

Sort of funny that the decision, since it is posted in PDF format and not text, would also not be text-to-voice or -braile parsable...

  2. Why is the display a predefined color? on Archos Jukebox Multimedia Reviewed · · Score: 1

Argh. I've been trying to check these out, but I wanted to make sure I have a unit that would match the dashboard lighting scheme of my car so it integrates well. I figured that a unit with a color LCD would let me pick the color that the text displays... But they force the text to be Yellow on Black? Why not make that be configurable? Oh well, looks like its back to the iPod with a cellophane screen attached... Too bad, because this unit really looked like it had some impressive functionality. I was willing to overlook the somewhat funky Archos hardware appearance. Bah.

  3. Mod Chips DO give access to protected content. on New "Secure" Xbox Cracked In Under A Week · · Score: 2, Informative

Pretty much every mod chip out has always made the systems skip their "authentic CD/DVD" check, so a backup (or illegal copy...) of a game will work. Now, with XBox Linux, there are definitely legitimate and legal uses for a modded XBox, which in a reasonable legal system would mean that DMCA wouldn't have an effect here. But we all know that DMCA and reasonable don't belong in a sentence together...

  4. If its Multitronic-based, its NOT a 7-speed... on The First Automotive Easter Egg? · · Score: 0

or ANY number of speeds. Multitronic is CVT. CVT is Continually Variable Transmission. If Audi is working on a sequential manual, it would not be based on the multitronic, because a sequential manual is totally different from a CVT. Also, considering that the multitronic only fits in front-drive cars, and that Audi only releases S (and RS) cars in quattro, and that the multitronic still can't handle the hp & torque of the 4.2 liter engine in the A6, there isn't much chance of the multitronic showing up in either the S4 or RS4. (However, a SMG is quite likely). And, as the owner of an S4 myself, I'd have to say the transmission is definitely better than mediocre, although definitely not perfect. The throws should be shorter, but that can easily be fixed with a shifter kit.

  5. Audi Multitronic is a CVT... on The First Automotive Easter Egg? · · Score: 1

However, unlike most CVTs, it is rated to handle over 200 HP... It is available coupled with the 3.0 liter engine (and the 1.8T) in the A4 and A6 (unfortunately, not coupled with quattro though. Front-drive only).

Actually, it wasn't either willful sabotage or tremendous human stupidity. It was a crossbred species doing something that no other bees do: http://www.txtwriter.com/Onscience/Articles/killer bees.html: Once a normal bee lays eggs, they don't leave their hive. Not so with killer bees. But regardless, that has nothing to do with your original point. Someone said that they hope the bees don't turn against us, and you stupidly (or attempting to be funny) made your honeybee comment. It's obvious the poster was referring to killer bees, and your claiming that they are ignorable because killer bees were a mistake is just silly. We can ignore Chernobyl because it was a mistake too, right?

  7. Uh, no... Killer Bees. on Honeybees Trained to Find Landmines · · Score: 1
The whole "making honey" thing? Yeah, that was SUCH a mess! I mean, that never worked, did it?
Heard of killer bees? They were invented by combining African bees with European Honeybees, in order to get a honeybee that could thrive in the more tropical regions in Brazil. Of course genetic engineering will take the two best features, right? But no, it picked the two worst. Instead of quickly reproducing gentle honeybees, they got quickly reproducing aggressive attackbees... So, yeah, it was "SUCH a mess".

Not true. As I'm sure the many Slashdot readers who have read it can say, the book "Surely you're joking, Mr. Feynman" (by Richard Feynman) lists Feynman doing basically that, once nuclear energy was discovered. He and some other government employees sat around in a room thinking of everything that could possibly be powered by nuclear energy and filing patents. As a result, Feynman held the patents for atomic submarines and atomic airplanes... (I tried to dig up the links to the patents, but the USPTO search is miserable).

Seriously, at least twice a week I get these calls (and usually at around 3 or 4AM...). And I have never had a fax machine hooked up to my phone line. No fun. But that leads to the question: How does somebody without a fax machine, and therefore unable to read how to get off their list, get off their list?
