So far, we are not slowing down our migration from Winblows to Linux. I actually just ordered 3 more servers to run the Oracle Collaboration Suite running linux. I am also trying to get the company off of MS Office, and even look at moving towards some of the desktops running linux.
Who knows, in another 4 years, I think we will be completely linux.
In order to set up 300 users for MSFT on my network it would have cost my company around $180,000. This is for exchange, the CAL's the microsoft guys to help set it up, and the hardware. Around 30 to 40 thousand of it was licensing costs.
I did it with Samba, plus one extra guy to help, a full migration for about $25,000. Most of that was the extra helps salary. Let's see, that was 7 servers, two black box cabinets, two unmanaged switches, a cisco router, arcserve backup, and an 8 tape dlt 4 changer.
I still have one NT box running old admin software and payroll software, but windows grabs the user info from samba.
So the savings was oh about $140,000 give or take a few thousand for my personal toys that I snuck under the radar.
Is one better then the other, who really knows. I think it really comes down to the core OS. Linux is more solid, the old MSFT boxes used to crash on a daily basis. My linux systems only one has gone down, and that was my email server.
The only real concern isn't what is better, but the users get their data and they do it, without having to know what you are doing behind the scenes or if it is windows or linux, or unix, or POS AS400.
Sounds like a typical demoncat ideology. Demoncats think people are too stupid to use a punch card. So lets test them, and see if they can use one. If they can't use it right and vote for us, we must be doing something wrong. So lets send them to school, or hire someone to hold their hand in the voting booth.
This would insure demoncat dominance, since they believe people are too stupid to vote correctly. Demoncats can't seem to check their punch card and pull off the hanging chads before they drop it in the little locked box. Yes yes the demoncat philosophy, if the voters can't do it, lets make it more technically advanced so we can hack it, to win our elections.
Politics is like french wine, it sucks and should be boycotted.
he appologized for that.....
Then followed it up with.....
Allowing more illegal immigrants into this country to do more slave labor under the table, in the name of humanity.
I think most people that use "American", are plain jealous of the fact their business people are too stupid to make a buck so dump on anyone else, mainly Americans, who do. And more so, since German business and French business are not well liked right now in America, I think a good US company buying SUSE might actually help save its arse. There will be less American companies boycotting the products. America is the largest importer and exporter of most products in the world. Not to mention our Government is just about everyone's biggest customer. It really has the potential to explode into the American Market, specially with all the Anti-trust stuff with Microsoft.
I am looking forward to seeing a Novell Linux Desktop.
My company for one has completely switched all the servers to Linux. I am just waiting for the right desktop applications, and desktop OS to push for a switch from Microcrap desktops.
At my college there were 5 or 6 night classes offered based on microsoft, one for cisco, and none for unix or linux. Then there was a handful of programming courses but It seems pretty obvious that schools are becoming more Microsoft Centric in their teaching. While there is a trend with corporations to migrate from Microsoft to Linux.
Well I guess we are back to the same problem as before, the students graduating are not up to the task, since their training will be irrelevant.

13 root servers maintain the records that every other DNS server looks at. They synchronize depending on your TTL settings. If a root servers is moved it will update the rest of the world in about 72 hours, without having to make any changes to your DNS settings or local files.
That is one of the benefits of using the DNS system rather then every machine keep a record of data locally in your.host file or whatever.
Currently my server room is sitting around 67-70 degrees. I am curious what the best temp for a server room should be at.

I am sure alot of governments are running around yelling Shields up! The sun is attacking.
The only thing I have is windows PC's. All my servers are linux except one. Retardo legacy crud software left over from 1945....
I am actually looking for similar software. I had previously used track-it but found the software too much of a pain.
P2P I doubt is going anywhere. There are more applications that can take advantage of it besides just downloading songs.
